China's Belt and Road Initiative is the most ambitious infrastructure project in modern history. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical.
To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Video journalist Sam Ellis uses maps to tell these stories and chart their effects on foreign policy.

China operates predatory lending to gain financial control over countries when they can't afford to pay them back, using this leverage to gain the ability to build this infrastructure but do we really believe it just about trade? America is cut off from a lot of the world by sea, yet it still became the dominant power.
Wow, another conspiracy about Chinese Economical Colonialism. Why you suspect everyone like you, country establish on the pirate and thief, do such foolish things in the history and pretend you are right. Culture assimilation and ethnic genocide have embed into the memories of every colony.
Trump wants to build the wall.... dear trump uncle, illegal immigrants don't 'jump over the wall' they have better ways to enter states.......bbbbbbut you are the one who will build that wall to make another few millions
China is becoming rich....hey but what about Chinese people??
people are working hard but can't buy a land and 5 million smart homes are empty because many can't afford...
china is investing in sri lanka which will be under the water after 2036🤣 due to global warming.
@vaibhav satpute BTW, wealth is not helping a person escape from justice in China, but it could be in US or western. So if you are living in US, i bless u to be a successful businessman, but if you are living in china, i bless you to be a moral citizen, no matter how successful you were.
...Pls read more books we are not living in ancient world, people granted the land and wealth for generations and generations. Wealth should be like a water, flowing in the economical system, not collected by a person or family. Tell me why the 1% wealth Americans paying less tax like Trump or Bezos. And why the people in the middle class feels less security on their financial situation? why people believe they enjoy less even their payroll get much higher? Financial system collapse because the problematic financial system. it has happened over and over in the history and we have to solve the problem how to let the wealth refresh ot be free from someone in power. Yea watch your cash flow not financial statement.
.... Are u saying why people working so hard in NY but cant even buy a house in DT????? Come on, you are not ignorant. young and low-income people need to rent a house in the city, but they also can buy a house in another small city. It's an option and it also call marketing economic.
Incompetent politicians make problem bigger while spending time.

・The missiles that North Korea is hitting in recent years is the same thing that the PRC government is hitting. The People's Republic of China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, so China must be in a position to stop the missiles hit of its neighbor, North Korea.

I’m from Malaysia. China has traded with Malaysia for 2000 years. In those years, they have been world’s biggest power many times. Never once they sent troops to this region. In 16th, 17th, 18th centuries, the Portuguese, Dutch and British came, we were colonized by each. The presence of China’s power is welcomed in this region. It provides economic benefits. It also enrich cultural experience in the region. We are not afraid of China being powerful in the region, we welcome the rise of China. China don't export ideology, they don't export chaos.
In fact, I read a lot of comments. I feel that everyone really cares about China, but really don’t understand the real China. All of them are through the fragmentation of the Internet to understand China.
Do you have humanism ?

・People's Republic of China, although a permanent member of the UN Security Council, can not abide by Article 33 of the UN Refugee Convention, “PROHIBITION OF EXPULSION OR RETURN ('REFOULEMENT)”? As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, it is absolutely impossible to send North Korean defectors back.

Germany, the USA, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan ROC all invested heavily in China and relocated many factories there in the 1990s. China's economy grew tremendously. How was this not a "win-win"? Now China is playing the victim card and claiming that only it can help to develop other countries economies.
India is to China as China is to the US, another rising superpower. Before the British left India, India could have left united and instead was split in two. Pakistan is to India as Taiwan is to China. We can see that China is much more ruthless in dealing with its future opponent than the US was in dealing with China, the US actively aided China's rise until recently and didn't aid Taiwan too much.
C brtdgh erm, you forget about Korean War, Vietnam war, Cold War, USA funding separatists in Tibet(Dalai lama and civil war), and xinjiang separatists(Uyghurs etc who then go to Syria and fight Assad and USA funds them even though they are Isis and al Qaeda), USA has contained China and has military bases all surrounding China and even in Afghanistan, and 30,000 troops in Japan, another 30,000 in South Korea, and sails its carriers just off Chinese coast and flies it's drones and spies on China daily?
MacArthur wanted to nuke China even, but China was not scared of nuclear USA and even attacked them when they had nothing. USA did everything it could have. China not only fought USA off, but will win the war in the long run without even firing another bullet.
This is art of war vs art of the deal. Lol.
I like how India is in the center of what China’s trying to accomplish and they’re just sitting there...surrounded by possible future Chinese allies...
fact: India will become the second most powerful nation in the world
My country lacks the amount of money and government flexibility that China has in abundance, so we sit there in the sidelines. However, I respect and appreciate India not being a part of China. The reasons are entirely subjective. We don't care whether the Debt Trap Diplomacy concept is used by china or not, that's for BRI affiliated countries to worry about. Maybe there isn't any debt trap, maybe China's doing all this for the betterment of humanity and a goodwill gesture, we don't really care. We stay away from BRI due to us not wanting to be indebted to an equally old, rich and vibrant civilisation we consider as potential rivals.
The Chinese taking all the advantage to take all they want just like doing those ports. It's has a big feedback with the Chinese because if the country didn't pay the loan they will always gonna take something in your country. Wise strategy and still going on.
See the point that you should think wisely before dealing with China.
And all that is discussed in India is when will some temple be built. I think our government officials should realize how China is going to completely surround us and politicians and even the public should see this video before even beginning to compare India to China. Sad but true.
china are also posing threat in third world countries by setting a debt trap, hoping it will not have paybacks but in the future could be used to force land arbitration. Also the seas as well, in fact it's their primary target.
Fun Fact: A certain Insurance Company in the U.S. gave loans to China and in turn the Chinese used the money to make Aircraft Carriers.
My point is, American office workers are helping, China makes it Aircraft Carriers.
There is NO direct Chinese translation of the word “dominance” because there is NO concept of dominance in Chinese culture. This video views China in a western lance, shoehorning event into concepts in your culture. Not helpful.
Obama pivoted to Asia so fast and unexpectedly, it took a while to figure out his reasoning. Due to the American media obsession with Trump, very few Americans still have not heard of China's Belts and Roads Initiative. Has Trump mentioned it to his base even once? I try to keep informed by reading newspapers all over the world. Thanks to Vox I now discover China's BRI is much further along than I knew. I am seriously impressed by China's progress but their strategic capacities so far exceed those of western countries, especially Trump's America, I am deeply and gravely concerned. Trump and his crowd cannot compete with strategic planning at the level of the Chinese. If Trump wins in 2020, he will drag every western democracy down with America. Folks we are in deep doo doo.
Still we have some key choke points in our hand like Strait of Mallaca , Gulf of Aden and Gulf of Oman through which China's 80% Trade Happens .And also India is involving U.S ,Japan ,France and Australia in Indian ocean with Malabar Exercise is clear indication to China that they will never enjoy superiority in Indian Ocean
In a time of increasing change and uncertainty, we must be clear on what will not change to not get distracted.

The Biggest Mistakes in Managing a Portfolio.
The Biggest Mistakes in Financial Planning Series.
by Harvey Jacobson, CHFC, MBA, CLU.
Investors who have remained consistent with their risk profiles through volatile markets have seen a substantial recovery in their portfolios since March 2009. Those who are truly behind are those who panicked and are now left with the decision of how to recover their losses. They can, but it is a much slower recovery.
