Quick way to get Live Stock Data to Excel

426 ratings | 74598 views
This is the fast way to get some live data into excel. It's not perfect and there's a 1 minute delay but it's a good start. I wanted to get something up for the people who requested it. If you have an idea of something else you want feel free to put in a request in the comments!

Deriscope (6 months ago)
Nice video! Thanks! I would also like to inform your viewers that a very efficient, wizard-guided acquisition of live feeds in Excel is possible through the almost free Deriscope addin. It supports several feed providers and is sophisticated enough to filter out bad feeds. More details at https://www.deriscope.com

Hey Jake, do you know how to run this process for Office 365? Went to try and re-create stock data exactly like your video and Excel doesn't bring up the browser and arrows to choose data to import, nor do I get the option to choose refresh rate, etc. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! @timevaluevideos

Is this possible to refresh data in each 5 seconds ? If yes then let me know how to do it ?
Very easy with macro (VBA) to make it refresh at the time that you want, if you want the program,I can write to you. (with some payment)

Whenever I do this it always has the stock price in the block, but it also has how much the stock is up or down in dollars and the percent in change in the same block as well... Is there a way to get rid of the additional information so it's only the stock price?
SkillzKillz (5 months ago)
=VALUE(LEFT(cellreference,6)) . The 6 is the number of digits. If your stock price is 1 digit (9.34), then put 4, if its 2 digits (23.57) then put 5, if it's 3 digits (255.61) then put 6, etc.

Dear sir, I am working on Google spreadsheet. Can you please advise how to get this data in good spreadsheet. It will be great if you send me a sample sheet. Thanks,
aswin sha (7 months ago)
It is very easy. this is one example to get Last traded price of HDFC bank in NSE . Here we need to use googlefinance function in google sheet cell to get the data. eg : =GOOGLEFINANCE("NSE:HDFCBANK","PRICE"). Similarly by changing the second parameter we will be able to fetch different values such as open, high, low,%change . For more information see this link https://support.google.com/docs/answer/3093281?hl=en
it hard to do with Google spreadsheet. Google spread sheet do not have the ability to pull the data from website. You have to do on Excel first and then copy the data to paste in Google sheet.

I`m tracking more the 300 symbols, any idea how I can do it in excel ?
Antony Santhosh (6 months ago)
Try in Google sheets with =Google finance parameter.. works easier than this way and gets only the fields you require.
Deriscope (7 months ago)
you mat want to try the excel Deriscope addin for that
Very easy with macro (VBA) I can write for you if you want ,Please contact me. I have write macro for the stocks of Thailand too. I can show to you if you want to see the sample file. And I can write the alert message when some stock value are changed.
ryan melikian (1 year ago)
if you want to get quotes for a list of stickers then you have to open 30 tabs?
Not necessary! We can write the program (macro or VBA) to show it in one sheet.

Hi Jake,This does not work for me when I do multiple symbols.  I did 28 symbols, one at a time. And then I linked each one of them back to columns a, b, c, d, e  in a summary form  --  for : Symbol, Co Name, Last price, and  change.   I set the Properties to refresh the data when opening the file --  bc I only am interested in the last close. When I was done, it worked great until it decided to re- update the data.  Then everything blew up.  None of the links in my summary columns gave the correct data anymore.  The data wound up in different rows than it was before. My first data set was for F --  Ford motor.  The price of Ford does not show up in my ford columns anymore.  The whole thing is useless after hours of work.  The first time this happened I had not saved the  bad update changes yet. I closed the file and reopened it..  It was OK for a few seconds and then it started updating the data and it all went bad.  In addition, the update process took about a minute or two for the 28 symbols.
Jer01 Jer01 (1 year ago)
No I did not.  I have been thinking of doing that.  Maybe I will when I get more time.  Let me know what you find.
Shane Dooley (1 year ago)
You said you modified it (with a change that shouldn't have been a problem) because you only wanted the last close. Have you tried doing it EXACTLY like presented so see if that failed, too? I am about to try the same thing for about 20 stocks...sure hope it works.
Jer01 Jer01 (1 year ago)
An Update.  Every time I close and reopen the file, the info comes out in a different order.  So the links in the summary columns give bad info.
