WordPress Search Engine Visibility Setting - Doing This Wrong Ruins WordPress SEO

WordPress Search Engine Visibility Setting - Doing This Wrong Ruins SEO https://youtu.be/NLbJ8CImBEU Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL In this tutorial you're going to discover a sometimes over-looked setting that will ruin your WordPress SEO efforts if you don't have it set properly. This setting is called Search Engine Visibility. It is used primarily to block search engines from crawling and indexing your website when it is in development. Unfortunately, when sites come out of development this setting isn't turned off. Let's make sure that it's set properly on your WordPress site. Log into your Admin Dashboard. Then hover over Settings in the left hand side menu and click on Reading. On the next page that loads the very last setting is Search Engine Visibility. If you want search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo to crawl and index your website then this box needs to be unchecked. If you don't want search engines to crawl and index your site, which is sometimes the case, make sure the check box is checked. Keep in mind that it is up to search engines to honor your request to not have your site indexed. When you are happy with your choice for this setting remember to click on Save Changes. I hope this information helps you with your search engine optimization! How to stop search engines from indexing your WordPress site

04:29
Today we will be looking at two different ways to prevent search engines from indexing your WordPress site. The first option is a setting within the READING section of the SETTINGS portion of the WordPress Administrator. The second option requires that your web host be using cPanel. cPanel includes a security option that allows you to set a username and password for folder access. This can be used to prevent access to your WordPress installation. Since the folder requires a password, search engine robots are prevented from accessing your site. When you set this option you will see that WordPress adds the following warning: It is up to search engines to honor this request. When this option is selected, WordPress does the following: Writes a line in the HEAD section of the generated WordPress pages: meta name=‘robots’ content=‘noindex, nofollow’ This will normally prevent search engine robots to ignore your site. However, although the line is in the header, it is possible for search engines to ignore these requests. These settings must be honored by the search engines in order for them to work. How to Set the Search Engine Visibility Option in WordPress Login to the Administrator Click on Settings Click on Reading Click on the checkbox under “Search Engine Visibility” in order to “Discourage search engines from indexing the site” Click on SAVE CHANGES in order to save your setting change. How to use the cPanel Password Directory Feature Remember that using this option prevents anyone from accessing the WordPress files. Caution must be taken in saving the login criteria so that access to the WordPress site is not lost. Here are the steps needed to activate and set the passwords for folders within cPanel: Login to the cPanel Scroll down until you find SECURITY section of the cPanel Click on PASSWORD Click on the folder where you Installed WordPress InMotion Hosting was founded in 2001 and provides personal and business web hosting for everyone! WordPress Reading Settings Walkthrough - What's In The Reading Settings? | WP Learning Lab

04:23
Download our exclusive 10-Point WP Hardening Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist WordPress Reading Settings Walkthrough - What's In The Reading Settings? | WP Learning Lab Make sure all your WordPress settings are as they should be is an important part of managing your WordPress website. The WordPress reading settings have some important options that you may want to check out. Let's get right to it. First, there is the Front Page Displays option were you determine what is shown on the front page (or homepage) of your website. By default the Your Latest Posts option is selected, which makes sense since WordPress is a blogging platform and blogs usually display their latest posts on the homepage. You can, however, change this option so that you display a static page on the homepage. When you select that option you can then select which page to show as the homepage from the Front Page dropdown. You can also select which page will display your Blog Posts from the Posts Page dropdown. The next option is Blog Pages To Show At Most. This determines how many blog posts are shown at one time on the blog page. Visitors can always navigate to older blog posts, this options just determines how many to show at a time. Next is Syndication Feeds Show The Most Recent number of posts. Syndication feeds are RSS feeds that people use to view your website content without actually visiting your website. This settings determines how many recent posts to put into the RSS feed. The next option For Each Article In A Feed, Show either Full Text or a Summary. This setting applies specifically to RSS feeds and determines whether you want to display complete articles in the feed or excerpts that link back to your website. The final, and probably most important option, is Search Engine Visibility. If the box is checked then search engines like Google will be discouraged from putting your website into their database. This can be useful when your website is an internal website or one that's not for the general public. However, just because that box is checked that doesn't mean Search Engines won't index your site. If you truly want no search engine traffic then you are better off creating the site on an internal network or password protect the whole site. After you've selected the WordPress reading settings you want simply click on Save Changes and you're all done. Check out my other WordPress settings tutorials: General Settings: https://youtu.be/73r72ElLvf0 Writing Settings: https://youtu.be/gV_pqs0bI9g Reading Settings: https://youtu.be/4dJ_Qd81ZfQ Discussion Settings: https://youtu.be/TLVl7qC8jjY Media Settings: Permalink Settings: https://youtu.be/-PeHx3kVXvk I hope this information helps you! Yoast SEO [2018] Setup & Installation, Step-by-Step - WordPress SEO Complete Walkthrough

24:51
Yoast SEO [2018] Setup & Installation, Step-by-Step - WordPress SEO Complete Walkthrough https://youtu.be/F0_NQg8p6q0 Download your exclusive 10-Point WP Security Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist In this tutorial we are going to install and configure Yoast SEO and then optimize a blog post using the optimization checklist built into the plugin. SEO Yoast has been the go-to SEO plugin for WordPress for a long time. There is a free and a premium version. Over time some features of the free version have migrated into the premium version. Most notably, the creation of redirects. First things first, lets install the plugin. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New. On the next page type "Yoast SEO" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left. Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed. You'll now have an SEO menu item in the admin left hand menu in your WordPress site and you'll also have an SEO link in the header navigation. The number in the orange circle beside the SEO link indicates the number of SEO notifications the plugin has for you. Click on the SEO link now to see the notifications and to find the configuration link. Click the configuration link once you find it on the notifications page. Now you'll be taken through the plugin configuration. 1. Welcome Page The first page is the Welcome page where you can sign up for their newsletter if you want. It's optional. When you're done here click on Next. 2. Your Environment Next we let the plugin know what type of environment your site is in. The options are self-explanatory and they are: - Production (this is a live site with real traffic) - Staging (this is a copy of a live site used for testing purposes only) - Development (this site is running locally for development purposes) Click next when you've chosen the appropriate one. 3. Your Site Type Next we choose the site type, also self-explanatory: - Blog - Webshop - News Site - Small Business Site - Other Corporate Site - Other Personal Site Click next when you've chosen the appropriate one. 4. Company or Person Next, we choose whether the site is for a company or an individual. When you choose you are given a name field to fill out and a you can choose a logo image. This information is important for Google indexing. Click next when you've chosen the appropriate one. 5. Social Profiles In this step you can add URLs to all the social profiles that you or your business has. Click next when you're done. 6. Post Visibility This is where we choose which types of content on the site should be hidden from Google. If you want your content to rank then you'll want to have as much content visible as a possible. The exceptions are "Media". I would also hide that category. And some of the custom post types on your site may also need to be hidden if they don't add any value for your visitors. Click next when you're done. 7. Google Search Console Here you authenticate your site with GSC, which you should always do so Google can tell you about any issues they find. Click next when you're done. 8. Title Settings This is where you set the format of your titles. Click next when you're done. 9. Success! This is the last page of the configuration. Yoast SEO tries to sell you on some services here and asks again if you want to optin for the newsletter. Both are optional. Click Close when you are done. Now that the Yoast SEO plugin installation and configuration is complete we can SEO optimize a post or page. SEO Optimizing a Post Open any post in the WordPress editor. How to Hide a WordPress Page From Google

04:19
Sometimes you may want to hide a page from search engines to keep away unwanted users or to protect your privacy. We understand how important this can be and we want to show you how you can hide pages from search engines on your site. In this video we will show you how to hide a WordPress page from Google without affecting your site's SEO. Text version of this tutorial: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-hide-a-wordpress-page-from-google/ If you liked this video, then please Like and consider subscribing to our channel for more WordPress videos. Check us out on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wpbeginner Follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/wpbeginner Join our circle on Google+: https://plus.google.com/+wpbeginner/ Checkout our website for more WordPress Tutorials http://www.wpbeginner.com/ Summary of this tutorial: We have two methods we would recommend for achieving this, the first being using Yoast SEO and the second being editing your robots.txt. -Yoast SEO For this method we would recommend installing the Yoast SEO plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/ If you would like to view our article for how to set up the Yoast plugin you can view that here: http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-install-and-setup-wordpress-seo-plugin-by-yoast/ With the plugin activated you will have an area at the bottom of your post or page editor specifically for the Yoast plugin. Click on the Advanced Settings, set the dropdown to noindex and set the Meta robots follow to nofollow. With the changes saved you will now have code added to the page you want hidden that tells search engines not to follow or index the page. -Robots.txt For this method you will need to edit the robots.txt file for your site. This file is in your site's root directory and you would either need to use FTP or your host's file manager to edit it. -Password protect a post or page If you want to ensure the post or page can't be seen by search engines you can password protect it rather than request it not be indexed. When you edit the post or page, in the Visibility option if you click edit you will be able to change it to Password protected and set the password. Now anyone trying to view the page including the search engines will need the password before being able to view the content.
