Stock Market Index | by Wall Street Survivor

What is a stock market index? Learn more at: https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com An index, like the DOW, the S&P500 or the NASDAQ, is a sample of stocks that provide insight into the broader market. When someone says "the market is up 10 points today", they are referring to an index. By measuring the compilation of similar stocks instead of just one or two stocks, a stock index provides information about that particular market or segment. One of the most talked about and popular indexes is The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) which consists of 30 of the biggest companies in the U.S. Stock indices are typically related by some commonality: for example, the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 is an index that measures or tracks almost every publicly traded stock in the United States. The Morgan Stanley Biotech Index is a small index that follows the biotechnology market. Each stock index has a specific focus that can provide highly specific or very generalized information. It is computed from the prices of selected stocks (typically a weighted average). It is a tool used by investors and financial managers to describe the market, and to compare the return on specific investments. An index is a mathematical construct, so it may not be invested in directly. What is STOCK MARKET INDEX FUTURE? What does STOCK MARKET INDEX FUTURE mean?

03:51
What is STOCK MARKET INDEX FUTURE? What does STOCK MARKET INDEX FUTURE mean? STOCK MARKET INDEX FUTURE meaning - STOCK MARKET INDEX FUTURE definition - STOCK MARKET INDEX FUTURE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ In finance, a stock market index future is a cash-settled futures contract on the value of a particular stock market index, such as the S&P 500. The turnover for the global market in exchange-traded equity index futures is notionally valued, for 2008, by the Bank for International Settlements at USD 130 trillion. Stock index futures are used for hedging, trading, and investments. Index futures are also used as leading indicators to determine market sentiment. Hedging using stock index futures could involve hedging against a portfolio of shares or equity index options. Trading using stock index futures could involve, for instance, volatility trading (The greater the volatility, the greater the likelihood of profit taking – usually taking relatively small but regular profits). Investing via the use of stock index futures could involve exposure to a market or sector without having to actually purchase shares directly. There are cases of equity hedging with index futures. One case is where a portfolio 'exactly' reflects the index (this is unlikely) so that the portfolio is perfectly hedged via the index future. Another case is where a portfolio does not entirely reflect the index (this is more likely to be the case). Here, the degree of correlation between the underlying asset and the hedge is not high. So, your portfolio is unlikely to be 'fully hedged'. Equity index futures and index options tend to be in liquid markets for close to delivery contracts. They trade for cash delivery, usually based on a multiple of the underlying index on which they are defined (for example L10 per index point). OTC products are usually for longer maturities, and are usually a form of options product. For example, the right but not the obligation to cash delivery based on the difference between the designated strike price, and the value of the designated index at the expiration date. These are traded in the wholesale market, but are often used as the basis of guaranteed equity products, which offer retail buyers a participation if the equity index rises over time, but which provides guaranteed return of capital if the index falls. Sometimes these products can take the form of exotic options (for example Asian options or Quanto options). Forward prices of equity indices are calculated by computing the cost of carry of holding a long position in the constituent parts of the index. This will typically be the risk-free interest rate, since the cost of investing in the equity market is the loss of interest minus the estimated dividend yield on the index, since an equity investor receives the sum of the dividends on the component stocks. Since these dividends are paid at different times, and are difficult to predict, estimation of the forward price can be difficult, particularly if there are not many stocks in the chosen index. Indices for futures are the well-established ones, such as S&P 500, FTSE, DAX, CAC40 and other G12 country indices. Indices for OTC products are broadly similar, but offer more flexibility.

Construction of Stock Indexes, Lecture 006, Securities Investment 101, Video 00008

20:05
In this lecture we create two different indexes from the same initial company information. The first index is a price-weighted index, which rises, due to the disproportionate effect of large share price changes in small companies. The second index is a market-capitalisation-weighted index, which falls, due to the disproportionate effect of share price falls in large companies. After discussing the mechanism between the construction of the two major index types, the lecture also briefly mentions total return indexes, price return indexes, net price return indexes, and a small reference to the concept of a free float. How to Trade the German Dax (Germany 30 Index) 👍

● Trading the German DAX 30. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/indices/spread-bet-dax-30.html ● You can trade the Dax at InterTrader http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/intertrader/intertrader.html ✔ Please like the video and comment if you enjoyed - it helps a lot! The DAX 30 represents the top 30 biggest listed companies in Germany [DAX Deutscher Aktienindex]. The DAX started trading in 1987 at a level of 1000 and hit 12888.95 in June 2017. The DAX index itself is market weighted - the higher the market cap of the company the more weighting its going to have on the index. The DAX or Germany 30 as it is sometimes referred to can be quite volatile. The DAX is obviously susceptible to EU data and the EURO. Constituents include Siemens, Bayer, SAP, BASF, Allianz, Daimler, Deutsche Telekom, Adidas, Fresenius, Deutsche Post, Linde and Munich Re. The Germany is somewhat correlated to other European indices like the FTSE 100 although its probably more volatile. With that kind of volatility you also get opportunities.

Warren Buffett's Best Investment Advice: Buy Index Funds

23:55
http://www.LifeStyleTrading101.com Warren Buffett is perhaps the most successful and celebrated investor of the 20th century and his results have only been getting better as he ages. ★☆★ VIEW THE BLOG POST: ★☆★ http://www.lifestyletrading101.com/warren-buffetts-best-investment-advice-buy-index-funds/ =========================== Of course, that’s largely due to his ability to pick stocks that outperform the market. But during his lifetime, the stock market has actually gone up quite a bit, despite the dot com and financial crisis. Anyone who bought and hold would be doing quite well as well. You don’t necessarily need to pick the best stock winners. Simply getting exposed to the overall market in a diversified manner would have given you solid returns over time. In fact, that’s exactly what Warren Buffett recommends and is doing himself. On page 20 of The 2013 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Report to Shareholders (PDF), he talks about how he is allocating 90% of his estate for his heirs to be invested in the S&P500 index fund – and that’s what he recommends to the average investor. ====================== What This Means For You Warren Buffett’s favorite investing strategy can be essentially boiled to a few key takeaways: 1) Buy a low-cost index fund – either through ETFs such as SPY or VOO — or directly with Vanguard. 2) Buy in pieces over a period of time (dollar-cost-averaging) 3) Hold. In his annual report, Buffett specifically recommends the Vanguard S&P500 Index Fund. ★☆★ Part 2: Executing Buffett's Advice ★☆★ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STMg_6qpV4Y ★☆★ Subscribe on Youtube ★☆★ http://www.youtube.com/lifestyletrading101x Instagram ►http://www.instagram.com/lifestyletrading101

Index Management - Stock Selection and Trading Strategy | HINDI

13:45
Stock Market Index Management is being discussed multiple times by me in my videos and during live streaming. In this video, i have discussed Stock Market Index Management at length. Basically, if the index is increasing but overall breadth is either negative or neutral then it means equity market index management. In Nifty 50, the weightage of only 9 stocks is 50% and the weightage of rest 41% stocks is balance 50%. Therefore, if 9 stocks with most weightage continue to perform then the index i.e. Nifty or Sensex will continue to rise thus depict bullish trend. However, the reality is different. For example, in a current scenario out of 50 stocks approx 50% have delivered positive returns in last 30 days whereas rest 30% have delivered negative returns. Therefore, the direction of the market is not so clear. If you liked this video, You can "Subscribe" to my YouTube Channel. Pros and Cons of Stocks vs Real Estate: Is one better than the other?

12:58
So which is the "better" investment...stocks or real estate? In this video, I do my best to break down the pros and cons of each option and weigh the results against the potential return one could possibly expect to achieve. Since picking individual stocks can vary so widely in price, as would flipping a house, I'm comparing long term rental real estate to an total stock market index fund. It’s a hard question to answer, and a lot comes down to personal preference, but these are some things to take into consideration before we break down the numbers. Just for clarification - picking individual stocks, day trading, or swing trading is NOT included - you could achieve much higher returns and many people do this. However, since you could also invest and flip real estate, I felt this would be an unfair comparison with too many variables - which is why index funds vs rental properties were used. Each have their upsides and downsides… Pros for index fund investing: -It’s completely passive. Once you spend a few minutes going to a website and buying a stock, you’re done. -You don’t need tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands of dollars like you generally need with rental real estate. -There are no hassles of working with tenants, fixing items, or maintenance. -You can buy index funds within a tax advantaged account such as an IRA or 401k. -Stocks are fairly liquid and you can cash out quickly when you want to sell. Pros for real estate investing: -You have total control over what you buy and at what price -You can take advantage of undervalued properties and areas -You can add square footage, remodel, and gain quick equity and increase cash flow -You can leverage your money and achieve potentially higher returns -You can receive consistent rental income In terms of the raw returns, generally real estate CAN yield a higher return, usually if you leverage your money - HOWEVER, the higher return is balanced by the amount of work, skill, and knowledge needed to find the right deal and close on the right price. Real estate is also not an entirely passive investment, so even though you can make significantly more, it also comes with more work. If you’re looking for something entirely passive, stocks will likely yield a little less but it comes with the ease of not having any responsibilities or obligations. So much of it comes down to personal preference. My recommendation is to do both :) Add me on Snapchat: GPStephan Add me on Instagram: GPstephan For business inquiries, you can reach me at [email protected] Suggested reading: The Millionaire Real Estate Agent: http://goo.gl/TPTSVC Your money or your life: https://goo.gl/fmlaJR The Millionaire Real Estate Investor: https://goo.gl/sV9xtl How to Win Friends and Influence People: https://goo.gl/1f3Meq Think and grow rich: https://goo.gl/SSKlyu Awaken the giant within: https://goo.gl/niIAEI The Book on Rental Property Investing: https://goo.gl/qtJqFq

Which Index Fund to Invest in for the Long Term

04:09
In this clip, Alison Southwick and Robert Brokamp explain the differences between the two most popular market index funds, and which one will give you a better return on your investment. Also, they look into the different fee structures of several of the most popular firms you’d buy these funds from. This podcast was recorded on Mar. 8, 2016. Imagine owning Amazon.com (up over an insane 4,000% since 2001) when Internet sales rendered big-box retailers obsolete... Now an industry 99% of us use daily is set to implode... And 3 established companies are positioned to take advantage.
