How Do Apps Make Money In 2017? Best 3 Strategies
Today, I want to talk to you about the best way to make money with apps in 2017. This is a very popular topic among anyone getting in the app business because this is how you’re going to make your return. And there’s a few things that are working and a few things that aren’t working really as well as they used to. 1. Advertisements Advertisements is when you show a pop-up for somebody else’s app and then you get paid every time that you show that pop-up. Advertisements still work. They work just as well as they do on the web, but they can go up and down based on the ad network. You have to show advertisements through an ad network, and so you don’t really have a lot of control over who the advertiser is, and how much they’re going to spend on a given day. So ads can work, but it really comes down to how much money the advertisers are spending that month. Ads can be a very lucrative source of revenue for you. It can be a very quick and fast way to make money. But you have to have a lot of downloads, thousands and thousands of it, to make advertising work. 2. Create more in-app purchases for your users. What happens with most people is they put in a few in-app purchases into their app and no one buys it. And they’re like: “Well, this app doesn’t convert, there’s no way I can make my money on this.” And they just forget about it, and go back to advertisements. But you don’t just put in-app purchases in your app. You have to sell your in-app purchases. What you have to realize is that the way that the world works in 2017 for the app business is you have to market to people. You have to put your app in front of them and say: “Hey listen, here’s the product that we’re selling, make sure to check this out.” So every time that they go through the app, you need to make sure that they know that it’s available, and that it’s easy to buy. So, in-app purchases are actually becoming a very viable source of revenue for people, but you have to sell it to your users. You can’t expect your users to go searching around and pick through every single menu and try to find it. And not only do you need to sell it, you need to consistently add more and more in-app purchases to your app. If you want to make more money, you need to just have more things that people can buy. And then you sell it to them, you present it to them in the app. 3. Subscription model This one has the most potential. Apps like Spotify and Pandora have subscriptions. Meaning, you sign-up and say: “Hey, for two dollars every week, or for 10 dollars every month you’re going to keep this app and you get all the premium access to the products.” This is the future of App Monetization. The most successful apps will focus on subscriptions. It is a winning and proven business model and not a lot of people are doing it. Now, Apple specifically has a few guidelines on what kind of apps can use subscriptions, but as long as you just put a lot of content into your app, or even stream content in, like if you have a YouTube channel, you can just show those videos directly in your app and put a gate on it. Adding a subscription and giving people access to premium parts of your app is the best way to make money with a really good app over the next 12 months. For this model to work, you have to have a great product. You can’t sell crap, you can’t sell garbage to people and expect them to sign up for a subscription. If you do have a great app though, make it a subscription and get people to sign up for this subscription, and then continuously deliver on what you promise. Summary So, if you’re thinking about getting into the app business, or if you are in the app business and you’re wondering “How do I make money?” look at these three types of monetization. The first is Advertising. It’s easy, but you’ve got to have a huge amount of volume, you got to have the right type of App—usually a game, or a casino game really for that to be a big winner for you. The second is in-app purchases. With in-app purchases, make sure that you are selling the in-app purchases, you’re presenting it to people, and you are consistently adding more things people will buy. And finally, add a subscription to your app. The subscription is: “You’re inside the app, here’s a pay wall, there’s a subscription, and on the other side is all these premium content. Make that a subscription and you will see something really, really amazing happen to your revenue reports as you go through the year.

3  Marketing Strategies Your Cannabis Business Needs to Get Around Restrictive Ad Policies
The cannabis industry is thus always trying to utilize various hacks to get around with Facebook’s and other anti-cannabis ad policy. Let’s see how they are doing it: Influencer Marketing Cannabis businesses are increasingly paying social media influencers to get them to talk about the cannabis products. Big cannabis brands like Incredibles and Wana have increased their influencer marketing budget significantly over the past few years. Marijuana delivery services such as Eaze, SpeedWeed, and GreenRush are also using influencers to promote their services. Influencers are in a unique position to share almost anything they are passionate about without any threat of removal or shutting down. Many brands are now trying to capitalize on that. Branded Content by Publishers Caviar Gold, a cannabis company from Nevada, joined with the popular cannabis news website Herb to create a video that advertised its marijuana flavored products. The video was published on Herb’s Facebook account which has around 10 million followers. Though it showed cannabis products, the Facebook algorithm allowed the video to spread out because it was an editorial and not highly promotional. Krista Whitley, who worked on the video with Caviar Gold, said that “it’s a tactic that has always worked on Facebook, even before the platform began tightening its control of weed ads in the summer of 2016“. Moral of the story is that you can sponsor editorial content that subtly promotes your business and helps you get away with the anti-cannabis ad policy. If you are wondering why this advertising strategy works, the best analogy I can come up with is that of roulette. Player a walks up to the roulette table with 20 $5 chips and places them all on number 18.... The odds are stacked against this player and ultimately they lose their $100 quickly with nothing to show for it. Player B walks up to a roulette table with 20 $5 chips as well...But takes a different approach. On the first spin Player B places 20 $5 chips on 20 different numbers.... And hits one! This recoups Player B's Initial investment allowing that player to continue playing, again spreading out the bets. The best part about Facebook advertising compared to roulette is that once you find something that works, you can double your bet on that and continue to spread your additional bets out on new, untested interests and audiences. Slowly but surely you are able to create a number of different productive ad sets through testing that you are able to increase your budget and continue running for weeks, months, years on end! Is important to keep in mind what a statistically significant test is. You must have enough clicks, leads, sales in your funnel in order to make decisions that are truly based on the data. If you're basing decisions on 25 clicks or the results from 10 subscribers… There is no statistical significance backing that decision. If you're basing your decisions on 1000 clicks and 400 subscribers, the data is going to support making a correct decision because of the law of large numbers. Your conversion rates are going to fluctuate much more with smaller numbers than they will with larger numbers. This is why it is important when running five dollar Facebook ads to allow these ads to run long enough to obtain the data that you need to make informed and intelligent decisions. Patience is your friend and ultimately you will get more statistically significant data spending $50 over the course of 10 days then you will from spending $50 in one day. And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. Where are people already looking for solutions to problems, and how can you make a match between them and your service? The 1st option, though, is my favorite: Identify very specific leads in your very specific target market, and figure out where they go to look for a solution to their needs. When you’re starting out, your job is to find those few people and turn them into long-lasting customers. Here’s how you find them: First step is to niche down your market. Then, find out where they go to find solutions. Get in their heads: Want to pitch to business owners that blog about team work? Go to The business Blogs and start with the ones under “Popular Blogs.” Looking for physical or massage therapists within 50 miles of your house? Yelp should get you started easily. What about tech startups with over $1 million in funding, with more than 10 employees, but less than 50? Here’s 100 of them. You come up with killer content that makes your expertise shine. Step 3. You pitch your services in your author bio. Relevancy is very important here. Step 4. You wait for clients to come in or you keep repeating the process until you get clients. Depending on which blog you target and a lot of other factors, not every guest post will result in clients for you. That’s why it’s important to target the best blogs and put some effort into your guest posts. Most importantly, you should make sure to pitch your services at the right time. Here’s how to go through each step and get maximum result. Step #1: Finding the Right Blogs Your guest post is only as effective as the blog it is published on. It’s not always about your content. Even if you have the best post in the world, it will fail on the wrong blog.
