The pros and cons of trading futures

04:04
The pros and cons of trading futures is the topic of conversation on this video today. Trading futures is what I specialise in and started learning when I was just 18 years old. I, now do believe that futures is one of the best markets to trade. However, I don’t wish to paint a picture of unicorns and rainbows. People do need understand that the as with any market there are both good and bad things that can happen, so let’s get started. One of the first pros of trading futures I find is that you can get started very easily with very low barriers of entry. You can start an account with just $1000 which is much lower than other marketplaces. There is also a lot less manipulation in the markets, comparted to places like the Forex market. That doesn’t mean to say there is not any manipulation, but it is a lot more of a level playing field. This is great for beginners as it allows you trade in a regulated market, meaning you have less chance of being stung due to unfair conduct. The E-mini S&P 500 is the highest traded market by professional retail traders. Retail traders are people like you and me, sitting at home trading in front of our computers. Now, moving on to the cons in our pros and cons of trading futures discussion. With trading futures, it is a little easier to make more money, however with that in mind it means you are able to lose just as much money. Because the leverage is a lot higher, it is a bit riskier if you don’t know what you are doing. There are ways to make sure you are on top of your game, using stop losses, high probability strategies to make sure your winners are bigger than your losers. These are some quick points on the pros and cons of trading futures, there aren’t a lot of cons as it is easy to get started and it has a more level playing field. However, you need to make sure you have a good strategy and be on top of your game to make sure you don’t get stung in this large market. 15. Forward and Futures Markets

01:12:37
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) To begin the lecture, Professor Shiller elaborates on the difference between forwards and futures and on the role of futures markets to infer future prices for the underlying commodity or financial asset. Generalizing the discussion beyond futures markets to derivatives markets, he assesses the issue of speculation in those markets and its impact on capitalist activity. Subsequently, he introduces the notions of counterparty risk, standardization of contracts, and clearinghouses within the framework of the first futures market, the market for rice futures in Dojima, Japan. While describing wheat futures, he addresses the price patterns of contango and backwardation, margin accounts that help alleviating counterparty risk, as well as the fair value formula for futures prices. The third commodity futures market is the oil futures market, which leads to description of the history of the oil market in general from the 1870s, to the first and second oil crisis, until the oil price spike in 2008. Professor Shiller concludes this lecture with financial futures, specifically S&P 500 index futures, touching upon the difference between physical delivery and cash settlement. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Cash Market Versus Futures Market. Futures, cash and spreadbetting. What is the difference between cash and futures markets? Are spread bets and CFDs futures? This is a video explaining futures, cash markets and indices and broker prices. What is the difference between cash and futures markets? What is the relationship between cash market and futures market? I understand this can be tricky to grasp. We have two official prices; we have the cash price and we have the futures price. Since there are no physical assets to deal, most stock indices trading takes place via derivatives called futures A spread betting or CFD broker will quote you before. Dax Current prices (biggest 30 listed companies in Germany) Cash: 11648 - 49 Futures 11664 - 66 June 2019 expiry, If we've buying thru an exchange, the only way to get the cash price is by buying 30 stocks in the correct amount. The cash price published by the exchange is just a statistic and its not tradeable. What we can trade however are futures contracts. Futures contracts are based on the underlying cash price but they have added formulas including interest rates, time to expiry and they are basically buying something for a future point in time. A CFD provider or spread betting company will allow you to trade the futures contract and that will mirror the contract in the underlying exchange. The interesting thing comes when we're trading the cash price. Related Video Cash versus Futures Index Markets in Spread Betting & CFDs 😯👍 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwi8AQn_1yI

China has committed to further opening up its financial market and embracing international norms to give foreign traders new opportunities. One breakthrough is the establishment of the Shanghai crude futures contract earlier this year. It's the first commodity futures contract in China to invite foreign traders to participate. In today's instalment of Beyond the Wall, our correspondent Han Bin looks at China's futures market amid the trade tensions with the United States. How to Trade the Index Futures’ Market

07:19
If you haven't seen my free webinar yet: http://cli.re/AUWeb1EN Hi, guys. Hi from Andrea Unger, and some infos about index futures today. I live in Italy; I’m in Europe—the first name that comes into my mind is the DAX future. Sorry about that. Doesn’t write, but we have to write it out. GX is the code you normally find, or FDAX, okay? DAX Future is on Eurex, Germany; and it’s a very liquid future, very active. It was very well responding to a number of inputs and models. Lately, in the last years, it became a little bit choppier or, I might say, more difficult to respond to certain inputs. So, it’s still a good market to develop on, but it’s getting harder and harder to find good strategies on DAX. In any case, the main characteristic is to be trend-following. If you develop on DAX, the outcomes are in Euro. I might tell you that a good intraday strategy should be developed with a stop loss not smaller than 50 points, but better in direction of 1700 points. Which means: €1250, up to €2500 stop loss. Believe me, it’s heavy. So, consider this only if you are well capitalised for your trading. And DAX can be traded intraday and overnight, but if you feel that it is too expensive for you, you might consider his younger brother, the mini DAX. Mini DAX has one-fifth of the value of DAX future and moves pretty much very similar to it because Germans are very strict to the rules. The difference is the DAX moves in half a point; mini DAX, full point. So actually, if you develop strategies, you better develop on DAX data, and then you apply trades to the mini-DAX—it’s the best way to go. Also, considering that the mini DAX is still very young and that it was born in 2015, so actually, you would not even have a long enough dataset to develop on. That said, there is also the Eurostoxx in Eurex, but I will not suggest you to focus on that market or even write it here because, Eurostoxx, it’s very difficult to find good models to work on. For long-term trend-following, it might be fine, no problem. But on intraday or short-term overnight strategies, it’s very difficult to find something that works properly. Even though it is highly correlated to the DAX. But in spite of that, probably due to the weight of the tick value, compared to the tick move, it does not offer a good way to enter and exit the market. At least, this is my experience. So, I’ll mention the DAX and, eventually, mini DAX if you want to trade smaller. If you go on the other side of the ocean, get into the US, obviously, you have the E-mini S&P. Code is ES&P 500. E-mini S&P is most probably the most liquid market in the world. It was born in ‘98. Sorry, dropped my pen. Here it is. It was a black swan. And the E-mini S&P changed the characteristics of the index market in the States. Actually, if you look at the S&P 500, what worked on the S&P 500 changed completely after the E-mini S&P was born because this electronic market changed so much. The level of efficiency it reached changed, completely, the world of trading in the States. And now, today, E-mini S&P is very well responding to mean-reverting approach, and it’s very hard to find a good trend-following strategy on the E-mini S&P. So, if you want to develop on the E-mini S&P, but you better look in the direction of something which is counter-trend, rather than trend-following. Also, don’t forget that it works much better on the long side in a systematic way, rather than on the short; even though we remember periods of time such as 2002 and 2008, when the markets dropped dramatically. Also, in those years, long entry counter-trend models worked and produced money, while it had been difficult to find good short entries, even in those markets. I got models. I got it, but it was difficult to find. So, it’s better to develop in the long entry because the short moves are very hectic and it’s difficult to find a clean way to trade them because systematic trading is a clean and modelled way to trade. So, when the market is crazy, it’s difficult to adapt to it. In the States, you always very well know the E-mini NASDAQ, but I would suggest not to consider E-mini NASDAQ too much for automated trading. Maybe it’s my limits, but I never was able to find something that worked properly on the E-mini NASDAQ. It’s not only my experience. I can tell you, also students of mine, and also colleagues of mine had trouble in developing stuff on the E-mini NASDAQ. So, I mean, I don’t suggest you to focus on it. If you want, perfect, do it and I hope you get very high success rate on it. But it might be difficult, so you better focus on some other instrument...

Futures and Options Difference Explained - 2 Types of Derivatives

16:19
Futures and Options Difference is not known to many investors or traders. Basically, Futures and Options are the two types of derivatives. Normally there is a confusion among investors and traders between options and futures. Let us understand FUTURES first. It is an agreement between 2 parties to buy or sell an asset at a certain time in future at a certain price. It can be closed on or before expiry. A trader buys futures if he is running short of funds. There is an obligation for both buyer and seller of futures contract to execute the contract at a certain date. On the other hand, OPTIONS give right to the buyer, not an obligation but seller has obligation to comply with the contract. There are two types of options i.e. Call options and Put options. Call give the right to but and Put give the right to sell. The profit and loss of futures buyer are unlimited. Whereas the loss of options buyer is limited whereas profit is unlimited. The margin requirement is HIGH in futures and low in options. Futures are used by speculators and to tap arbitrage opportunities i.e. buy in cash and sell in futures at a higher rate. On the other hand, options are used for hedging. The seller of options pocket the premium upfront. If you liked this video, You can "Subscribe" to my YouTube Channel. Scalping a thinner E-Mini S&P500 Futures market

29:31
One aspect of reading turns in the order flow is seeing momentum of one side "die out". This is different from the "absorption" turns where somebody steps up and absorbs a lot of contracts, effectively holding the market. When absorption occurs, you have lots of time to make a decision. When buyers or sellers fade, you have very little time and so you have to be a little faster on the button. I have been asked by a few customers to produce a video showing what to look for when the market gets more volatile. This is the first video where I do that. It's quite simple, I watch the open, talk about the action about the related markets and I take a few short term or 'scalp' trades. Yesterday was rollover day and the rolling from December to March is still going on today. so I didn't hang around long after the open as that can muddy the action order-flow wise. Anyway - it's just thinking out loud, looking at places where the market looks to turn and hitting into a couple of them. It's not edited or scripted so feel free to send questions if something doesn't make sense. http://www.jigsawtrading.com/ Futures and forex trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. Commodity Futures Trading Part 2: Example, Forum, Fees, Guide, Commission (1989)

01:42:06
The United States followed in the early 19th century. Chicago has the largest future exchange in the world, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Chicago is located at the base of the Great Lakes, close to the farmlands and cattle country of the Midwest, making it a natural center for transportation, distribution, and trading of agricultural produce. Gluts and shortages of these products caused chaotic fluctuations in price, and this led to the development of a market enabling grain merchants, processors, and agriculture companies to trade in "to arrive" or "cash forward" contracts to insulate them from the risk of adverse price change and enable them to hedge. In March 2008 the Chicago Mercantile Exchange announced its acquisition of NYMEX Holdings, Inc., the parent company of the New York Mercantile Exchange and Commodity Exchange. CME's acquisition of NYMEX was completed in August 2008. For most exchanges, forward contracts were standard at the time. However, most forward contracts were not honored by both the buyer and the seller. For instance, if the buyer of a corn forward contract made an agreement to buy corn, and at the time of delivery the price of corn differed dramatically from the original contract price, either the buyer or the seller would back out. Additionally, the forward contracts market was very illiquid and an exchange was needed that would bring together a market to find potential buyers and sellers of a commodity instead of making people bear the burden of finding a buyer or seller. In 1848 the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was formed. Trading was originally in forward contracts; the first contract (on corn) was written on March 13, 1851. In 1865 standardized futures contracts were introduced. The Chicago Produce Exchange was established in 1874, renamed the Chicago Butter and Egg Board in 1898 and then reorganised into the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in 1919. Following the end of the postwar international gold standard, in 1972 the CME formed a division called the International Monetary Market (IMM) to offer futures contracts in foreign currencies: British pound, Canadian dollar, German mark, Japanese yen, Mexican peso, and Swiss franc. In 1881 a regional market was founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and in 1883 introduced futures for the first time. Trading continuously since then, today the Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX) is the only exchange for hard red spring wheat futures and options.[6] The 1970s saw the development of the financial futures contracts, which allowed trading in the future value of interest rates. These (in particular the 90‑day Eurodollar contract introduced in 1981) had an enormous impact on the development of the interest rate swap market. Today, the futures markets have far outgrown their agricultural origins. With the addition of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) the trading and hedging of financial products using futures dwarfs the traditional commodity markets, and plays a major role in the global financial system, trading over $1.5 trillion per day in 2005. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_trading

Scalp Trading Strategies Part 1- Getting Started Scalp Trading Futures and Stock Markets

10:02
Scalp Trading Strategies Part 1- Getting Started Scalp Trading Futures and Stock Markets Scalp Trading the markets for small targets multiple times per day can be possible, but not as easy as you may think. • The first 5-10 minutes of the start of the session, expect high volatility and whipsaws. On Fridays, it’s common to encounter slower activity and manipulation. Buyers and sellers flip-flop. • The E-mini (ES), Nasdaq (NQ), and Russell (TF) have similar movement. When scalping, the Dow (YM) is about $5 per tick, so that does not leave much after commissions. • Summer trading – no need to trade 24 hours a day. Overnight and last hour are traditionally less active. Stay out of the market when conditions are not ideal. Saving money / avoid risk is just as important as winning. • When beginning trading, spend time practicing. When using real money, despite your wealth, begin with one contract and move up slowly from there. • What happens when your target is hit and you’re not filled? Price usually has to penetrate to fill your order. It’s better to not take a loss. Get out with a smaller profit instead. • Problems when trading many contracts – partial fills occur when using limit orders. Market orders help avoid this problem. Getting 10 to 15 contracts filled on a limit order is not too difficult, but above 20 can be challenging. • The videos page is now updated with over 300 videos, going all the way back to 2009. The methods mostly have not changed. Very few in this industry can claim the same. • Are you serious about becoming the best trader possible? I am bringing this up first because Xi Jinping recently told his people to prepare for a long March, which is related to the 1936 military retreat and conquest of the communist party. This is not a good hint for where the trade war is going and even US - China relations. That being said, get ready for volatility, but also prepare for it to come on really slow. President Xi said it best, a long March. This strategy involves retreating, evasion, and stalling. The long March helped the commusost party succeed by then by circling around China over and over again to wear out their opposition and win with 1/10 the manpower. This is what we are seeing with the trade war, so we see what this does to the stock market and market volatility so prepare your trades and investments accordingly. It will be a game of musical chairs until something gives and the markets force someones hand, which I think China and Xi Jinping are banking on. That being said, we will be watching closely for reactions to this and any more developments and how it affects the market. Beyond that, we still have our top stocks and best stocks to buy that are continuations from yesterday. Charlie Burton, Trader and Educator interviews trader Lily Mats. PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE so we can bring you more! I trade Euro Stocks, Oil and Futures. I am a price action trader and the benefits of futures is that you can see the current orders. You have quite a mathematical mindset and you find that using order flow helps you in your analysis. I am trading breakouts. If we look at the order flow and we compare that with the order book and then suddenly that starts decreasing - you can see all this happening. That's when I prepare to buy on this breakout. What's the hardest part of trading? Taking losses and being okay with it. What's the best part of trading?

2 Simple Strategies For Volatile Markets - Market Profile Trading | Axia Futures

08:50
Buy the Market Profile Trading Course here: https://AxiaFutures.com/course/The-Art-Of-Market-Profiling/?af_id=6 Every Sunday evening Brannigan leads a Periscope trader training session to prep for the week ahead, share a trade strategy, and review the Axia Team's focus areas from the week before. In this session we look at two market profile trading strategies to apply in volatile market environments. The first thing to understand when it comes to volatility is that volatility does not mean trend. It just implies a wider variance around the mean price. Volatility has the effect of bringing players into the market quicker than usual which brings about more opportunity, but also higher risk. For these two market profile strategies, we look at examples in the the German 10 Year Bund and the US S&P 500 Index. Brannigan starts by drawing our attention to the average initial balance in the Bund being 16 prices wide, but on the example day having increased to 26. Noting the wide initial balance alerts traders to excess volatility at the open and a high probability for the market to spend the remainder of the day trading within the initial balance. The biggest mistake trades make is to see the volatility and aggressively sell the lows expecting trend, instead of selling into strength. The second pattern is the Open Drive where the market extends for trend continuation. A key feature of this type of market environment is a failure to take out a previous 30 minute candle low - also known as "one time framing". Bitcoin Q&A: Futures markets

08:54
Are there futures markets for cryptocurrencies? Are they dangerous for Bitcoin? Is there a risk of price manipulation? What will happen once traditional investors can become involved in cryptocurrencies this way? Many miners were already using futures markets in their business operations as a hedge against price downturns. Right now this economy is still just a trickle, so it is difficult to anticipate what the impact of traditional investment will be. Risk depends on the structure of the futures market. There is a great deal of risk in naked shorting, but as long as traders hold the underlying asset or sufficient collateral (ex. CME), the risk is reduced. The anticipated benefits of the emergence of futures markets include increased liquidity and reduced volatility. Trading Futures vs Trading Forex

11:13
Trading Futures vs Trading Forex will be the topic of this video. In the past, I have traded both products, and for awhile I preferred trading Forex, so I gave up Trading the Futures market for many years. Then the CFTC banned the Forex broker that I was using that helped me generate my best returns. I now faced a difficult decision in my trading. Do I give up or look for the best solution for myself?  As you can guess I found what I believe to be the best solution for Traders that live in the United States. Many traders do not look at the transaction cost when trading futures or forex. Most traders think that they do not pay any transaction cost since their broker does not charge a commission and in this video, I show how this is not the case. An investor could potentially lose all or more than the initial investment. Risk capital is money that can be lost without jeopardizing ones’ financial security or life style. Only risk capital should be used for trading and only those with sufficient risk capital should consider trading. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. Hypothetical Performance Disclosure: Hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations, some of which are described below. no representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown; in fact, there are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trading program. One of the limitations of hypothetical performance results is that they are generally prepared with the benefit of hindsight. In addition, hypothetical trading does not involve financial risk, and no hypothetical trading record can completely account for the impact of financial risk of actual trading. for example, the ability to withstand losses or to adhere to a particular trading program in spite of trading losses are material points which can also adversely affect actual trading results. There are numerous other factors related to the markets in general or to the implementation of any specific trading program which cannot be fully accounted for in the preparation of hypothetical performance results and all which can adversely affect trading results.

Bond Futures: How To Trade the Yield Curve Bond Futures | Bond Futures Trading Strategies tutorial

12:50
Let me show the Correct Way to Trade Bond Futures Learn how to Trade Bond Futures. DONT MISS YOUR FREE WEEK https://goo.gl/RXhLnY .This is Bond Futures Trading Strategies tutorial. What is Bond Futures? Although the stock market is the first place in which many people think to invest, the U.S. Treasury bond markets arguably have the greatest impact on the economy and are watched the world over. Unfortunately, just because they are influential, doesn't make them any easier to understand, and they can be downright bewildering to the uninitiated. At the most basic level, a bond is a loan. Just as people obtain a loan from the bank, governments and companies borrow money from citizens in the form of bonds. A bond really is nothing more than a loan issued by you, the investor, to the government or company, the issuer. For the privilege of using your money, the bond issuer pays something extra in the form of interest payments that are made at a predetermined rate and schedule. The interest rate often is referred to as the coupon, and the date on which the issuer must repay the amount borrowed, or face value, is called the maturity date. One wrinkle in the equation, though, is that not all debt is created equal with some issuers being more likely to default on their obligation. As such, credit rating agencies evaluate companies and governments to give them a grade on how likely they are to repay the debt (see "Good, better, best"). Benji Baily and Delmar King, fixed income investment managers at Everence Financial, say ratings generally can be classified as investment grade or junk. "Anything that's considered to be an investment grade, you would have a fairly high probability that you're going to get your money back at maturity," King says. "Of course, the lower you go down the credit spectrum, the more risk there is of default and the possibility that you could have losses. Therefore, the lower the security grade you have, the more yield compensation you should have for taking that default risk." So, if you purchased a 30-year U.S. Treasury bond (currently AA+ from S&P and AAA from Moody's and Fitch) for $100,000 with a coupon rate of 6%, then you could expect to receive $6,000 a year for the duration of the bond and then receive the face value of $100,000 back. At least, that's how a bond would work if you held it to maturity. Rather than hold a bond to maturity, they also can be traded. But, as a bond is traded, interest rates can change, so the overall value of the bond can change. "If you bought a bond that has a 10% coupon and the rest of the market is fine with owning a 1% coupon, then someone is going to love to have that 10% coupon until maturity," Baily says. "Conversely, if you have a 1% bond and everyone else is expecting that the market in general will be at 10%, then you're going to need to pay someone a lot of money to take that 1% bond instead of buying a new 10% bond." Because coupon rates generally are fixed, to adjust for future expectations the price of the bond or note has to move up or down. If yields, the interest or dividends received on a security, go up, the price will fall to accommodate that higher yield; if yields go down, then price has to go up.
