Are you new to teaching, or about to start your first year of teaching? I have made a video all about what I wish I had known as an NQT. The video is split into resource suggestions, what to buy as a teacher and what to avoid. I then discuss apps that are useful for new teachers (NQTs) and how I use them as a teacher. I also discuss the suggestions of qualified teachers and what they wish they had known during their first year of teaching. I remember my first year of teaching so well, and I hope I have shared some helpful apps, resources and ideas that might be useful during your first term. I hope this will be helpful for those who are new to teaching - Please share with other new teachers and comment extra helpful resources or apps below. I answer questions about your first year of teaching as a Primary School Teacher from the UK. I get a lot of questions at the moment about your first year of teaching (NQT year) and decided the best way to address this and provide support was to make a video exploring what the first year of teaching can be like. My first year was a rollercoaster, and I have gained a lot of experience in my first 5 years of teaching. I hope that these questions will help to support the next generation of Primary School Teachers! ________________________________________________________ Welcome to For Teachers! This video considers different organisational strategies for teaching science in the primary classroom. These include managing whole class introductions and practical investigations as well as different types of group work. Advantages and disadvantages of each organisation are presented. Viewers are encouraged to think about how to choose the most appropriate strategy. The video particularly focuses on the need for organisation before a lesson and how the teacher might optimise the learning and assessment of the children during the activities. The video is illustrated with a variety of classroom examples. Types of Organisation 1: Whole Class - Introduction, practical activity, sharing science books, demonstration, drawing the lesson together 2: Group Work - Groups doing different practical activities, circus of different activities, one group only doing science Think about - Making the lesson relevant and stimulating. What needs to be done before the lesson. What equipment is available. How can it be organised. The childrens experience of group work. Time available. What will you do in the lesson The organisation you will choose will depend on - What you want the children to learn. What experience the class already have of group work. The time, equipment and materials available Your planning should include - What you need to collect and set out. Introducing the work. What the children will do. Monitoring and assessing their learning. Helping children of different abilities. Concluding the lesson The video was written and produced by Tina Jarvis, Frankie McKeon and Jon Shears from SCIcentre and University of Leicester ITS Multimedia Services. It was made with the kind cooperation of St Marys CE Primary School, Bitteswell, Leicester. Special thanks go to Linda Cork and Penny Vernon.

Kerrie explains her varied role involves supporting teachers and working with students who may have learning or behavioural problems reach their full potential. Kerrie moved into this role after a career as a primary and secondary school teacher and after gaining additional qualifications. She works with four primary and one secondary school in the Northland region and could be assisting students, teachers, schools or communities in her role. At One Tree Point School, Kerrie and Abby meet with a teacher who Kerrie has been working with who wants to find alternatives to using his voice in the classroom to direct his students. A session around non-verbal cues was undertaken and implemented and Kerrie is keen to find out if that has helped. Communication, listening to others, being open to new ideas and a knowledge of current research are just some of the skills needed for this role which requires a minimum of five years teaching experience and a post-graduate qualification. number | counting | learn math | Story of Numbers & Counting (Primary resources) | BEC SV 01 The first student video module of our first course: Basic Equaliser Course (BEC) on primary level Arithmetic. This Student video module is part of "NEEV” program developed by Bharat Learn (https://www.bharatlearn.org) under Prakash Bindu Foundation, a trust registered under section 12a, which works towards impacting teaching-learning experience by using technology to empower the teachers. Bharat Learn uses its unique Film Based Teaching Methodology (FBTM®) to translate existing school curriculum into video based teaching-learning content that is made available for the students free of cost. Bharat Learn works with NGOs, Governments and Institutions to improve the learning outcomes of their students. ‘NEEV’ is a Basic Equalizer Course for Mathematics in Hindi for primary level (up to class Vth) students and is designed on FBTM® principles with the objective of strengthening the foundation of Mathematics amongst the Indian students at the early stage. The concepts/topics are covered in modules and each module includes: 1. Student Video Content (this video): A 15-20 minutes multi-modular video content on the given concept/topic, to be played by the teacher in the classroom. 2. Teacher Video Content: A 4-7 minutes video content for teachers to assist and guide them on the concept/topic covered in the module. Link to the corresponding teacher’s video for this module is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkDpBVPyRus 3. Practice Sheets: PDF in Hindi and English, which can be used in the classroom along with other TLM available. The practice sheets for this module is available at https://www.bharatlearn.org ‘NEEV’ program is a learner centric program available free & freely for anyone who wants to teach and anyone who wants to learn. ‘NEEV’ program is not a do-it-yourself learning methodology because a teacher’s role is critical in early years of learning. This program is designed to empower teachers in imparting quality instructions to young learners. Following are some helpful directions for teachers how to get the best out of "NEEV" program: • Teachers are encouraged to watch the Student video, Teacher’s video and Practice Sheets before showing the student videos to their students. • The content is neither restrictive not prescriptive to the teachers. Teachers may pause the video at any desirable place in the student video to clarify/explain the concepts in any way they feel appropriate for the student. • Play the student video as many times as is required for the students depending upon their learning abilities. • Teachers may use any other Teaching Learning Material (TLM) along with these videos. • Teachers can download and take a printout of the practice sheets available on our website and use it as classwork or homework to test the effectiveness of the learning outcomes of the students. A teacher’s planning includes creating resources to help her students practise using English letters and words. This video is one of a series produced by TESS-India to support teachers in developing learner-centred classroom practices. Filmed in primary and secondary schools in India, the aim of the videos is to inspire teachers to experiment with using similar approaches in their own classrooms. The videos are intended to complement the text-based TESS-India materials for teachers and school leaders. However, they may also be viewed independently of these materials. TESS-India (Teacher Education through School-based Support in India) is an Open University, UK led teacher education project that has collaboratively developed a large repository of freely available, adaptable Open Educational Resources (OER) that support national education priorities in India. The resources are accessible in a range of media and languages, for use in multiple initial and continuing teacher development contexts. TESS-India is funded by UK aid from the UK government.
