US charges Chinese, Taiwan companies with trade theft
(1 Nov 2018) The United States has charged companies in China and Taiwan and three individuals with stealing trade secrets from a U.S. semiconductor company, the Justice Department announced Thursday. The prosecution comes amid heighten trade tensions between China and the U.S., and as American officials raise alarms about the threat of Chinese economic espionage. The Justice Department says the defendants, including a Chinese-owned company singled out this week by the Trump administration, targeted Idaho-based Micron over a technology it produces that stores memory in electronics. The Trump administration this week imposed restrictions on technology exports to one of the indicted companies, Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Co. The administration has characterized China, along with Russia, as a strategic competitor of the United States. The U.S. has taken an increasingly tough and confrontational stance toward what it characterizes as China's "predatory" economic policies. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo set the tone in a June speech where he accused China of an "unprecedented level of larceny" of intellectual property. 10 BIGGEST Companies You Never Heard Of
From MASS MEDIA publishers ; TO the company that runs your daily life; these are the 10 BIGGEST Companies You Never Heard of ! HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat ! 10. BERTELSMANN Bertelsmann is a German multinational organization located in Gutersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Germany. It is one of the world's greatest mass media organizations and also engaged in the education and service sector. Bertelsmann was established as a publishing business by Carl Bertelsmann in 1835. Following World War II, Bertelsmann, under the administration of Reinhard Mohn, went from being an average-sized enterprise to a dominant conglomerate, giving not only books but also music, television, magazines, business, and radio services. Bertelsmann is an unlisted and resources market-oriented firm, which remains principally controlled by the Mohn family. Since 2016, significant divisions of Bertelsmann are Penguin Random House, the world’s largest book publishing company, BMG the music publishing company behind artists such as Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Aerosmith, Dj Khaled and of course, the best soft rock band the world has ever seen, Nickelback. For our European viewers, you might be familiar with the RTL Group, which is another part of Bertelsmann. This company gives a new meaning to MASS media. 9.SIMPLE Group Limited, is anything but simple, it is a conglomerate of independently run organizations that each has its focus area in Tax Planning. The core marketing areas are Legal Services, Offshore Banking, Fiduciary Activities, Corporate Service, offshore outsourcing, and Offshore Business Services. The date of establishment is listed as 1999 by Companies House of Gibraltar, who identify it as a holding company; however, it is recognized that SIMPLE Group's marketing and trading actions date to the secondary part of the 90s, probably as a consolidated body. SIMPLE Group Limited is a conglomerate that encourages secrecy, they are not registered on any Stock Exchange, and the organization is owned by a complex series of offshore companies and trusts to shield the owners. The Sunday Times declared that SIMPLE Group's advantages could be estimated at £77 million; the stockholders are perceived to be a collection of Swiss Private Banks' owners. In other words, if you want to hide the $50 your mom gave you for your birthday, get in contact with the SIMPLE guys. They will make sure the grubby hands of the government will never see a penny in taxes. Also I really don’t buy the 77 million pounds number, I am guessing there is much more money tied up there. 8. BAE SYSTEMS 7. JOHNSON CONTROLS 6. TATA MOTORS LIMITED 5. CARGILL 4. WORLD FUEL SERVICES 3. TAIWAN SEMICONDUCTOR Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation Ltd. (TSM) has been at the lead of chip design since its establishment in the 1980s, and today manufactures chips for some of the most significant clients in the world. Among many others, the organization manufactures chips for Apple (AAPL), including the important A10 series. Apple is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing’s biggest client, accounting for one-fifth of businesses – sales that surpassed $24 billion in the last financial year. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing sells chips to customers all over the developed world. Geopolitics does make an impression in the company’s categorization of its revenue by region. By far the organization's largest market is North America, which produced 69% of total profits. If you are watching this video on an iPhone, you are watching this on a taiwan semiconductor chip ! 2. MCKESSON CORPORATION 1. SERCO GROUP Serco Group plc is a supplier of public co-operation with offices based in Hook, Hampshire. Serco works in six sectors of public service supply: Transport, Health, Defense, Immigration, Justice, and Citizens Services. Yes. A SINGLE company is responsible for most of the transport, health, immigration, prison and “citizens” services Serco runs school investigations, speed cameras all over the UK, and the National Nuclear Laboratory. It's also responsible for the early warning ballistic missile defense systems in the country. All in all SERCO has 50,000 employees and and operating income of 42 million pounds, it doesn’t seem too big right ? True, but considering how many very important services the company runs, the value of the company changes ten fold.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Dutch managed to dominate world trade, and they did all through the pioneering use of corporations and finance. Well, they did also use some traditional methods like violently enforced monopolies, unfair trade agreements, and plain old warfare. India’s warming ties with Taiwan to test relations with China
Gradual yet seemingly planned warming of ties between India and Taiwan, which China sees as a renegade region, could soon become a new talking point in the choppy Sino-India relations. State-controlled media lashed out at New Delhi for signing an industrial collaboration MoU with Taipei this month, though China is yet to react officially. What could particularly annoy Beijing is that the MoU – as per the official statement in Chinese released by Taiwan – was signed between “two nations”. In the English version, it is referred to as one of the five bilateral agreements signed between “two countries”. “India and Taiwan island signed a MoU on December 14 to promote mutual industrial cooperation, an alarming move that could sabotage the recent smoothing of Sino-Indian relations, said Chinese experts,” the nationalist tabloid Global Times, affiliated to the Communist Party of China, reported on Wednesday. The MoU was the fifth bilateral agreement since President Tsai Ing-wen took over as Taiwan’s first woman leader in May 2016. India has no formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan; the de facto Indian embassy in Taipei is the India-Taipei Association and the Taiwanese maintain the Taipei Economic Cultural Centre in New Delhi. Beijing opposes any official contact between Taiwan and other countries and has warned India earlier this year to strictly follow the “one-China” policy. The Chinese foreign ministry had then said it was against any “upgrade” in India-Taiwan ties. Following the 19th Communist Party Congress in October, there is no doubt that China has at least in words strengthened its plans to unify Taiwan with the mainland. Therefore, Beijing is expected to be more sensitive to any effort by India to inch closer to the democratically-run island nation. “All activities of splitting the motherland will be resolutely opposed by all the Chinese people. We have firm will, full confidence, and sufficient capability to defeat any form of Taiwan independence secession plot,” President Xi Jinping had said in his opening speech at the party congress. “India is using the Taiwan question as a bargaining chip in exchange for China’s support and concession on its own territorial disputes,” Wang Dehua, head of the Institute for South and Central Asian Studies at the Shanghai Municipal Center for International Studies, told Global Times. To mainland experts, President Tsai is exploiting India’s strategic mistrust against China in an effort to expand trade ties with the South Asian giant. Taiwan, of course, seems happy with the progress in ties with India. “Relations between India and Taiwan are close and cordial, especially as President Tsai Ing-wen initiated the New Southbound Policy to strengthen Taiwan’s exchanges with India, as well as ASEAN member countries, in May 2016,” an official statement from Taiwan said. It added that more than 100 Taiwanese companies have invested around US$1.5 billion in India, mostly in the IT, engineering, shipping, shoe manufacturing, finance, chemical, and service industries. “Bilateral trade reached $4.7 billion from January to September this year, an increase of over 40% compared to the same period last year. How to Make Fair Trade Profitable in the Developing World
More than 40 million people work in the garment industry worldwide. As some of the world’s lowest paid workers, they are at the mercy of a system in which many companies strive to maximize profits by paying employees as little as possible. But consumers are beginning to realize the power of their purchases to shape the lives of workers. Patagonia sees this as an opportunity to support the people behind the product and work toward wage equity in the supply chain. And this commitment goes beyond just a few token factories or a new marketing campaign. It is a growing movement that strives to do the right thing, even when it’s difficult or less immediately profitable to do so. Here’s how it works. Taiwanese car company looks to electric future
(13 Sep 2017) LEADIN: Taiwanese electric auto maker Thunder Power is bidding to be the next Tesla with the launch of a new battery-powered SUV at the IAA motor show in Frankfurt. Experts say several start-ups are appearing, hoping to jump on the electric bandwagon. Whether they can be successful is another matter. STORYLINE: Making its debut in Frankfurt, Thunder Power's new electric SUV. The Taiwanese electric car maker's headquarters are in Hong Kong, but its design comes from Italy and Germany, and it's manufactured in China. The high-powered electric vehicle promises a range of around 650 kilometres on a single charge. "I never produce a short range city car because it's useless, that's what I'm thinking okay? Why you buy a car with a 100 kilometres range, why don't you just ride on a bicycle then? That's my concept," says Thunder Power president and CEO, Wellen Sham. "That's why I always do the car, starting with two years ago, I told everybody, I'm proving that, we can do very long range." Production on the SUVs is set to begin in China in 2019, with European models arriving in 2020. A limited-edition coupe will also be produced in a run of just 488 cars with full owner customisation. Reservations for the car are open from today. Sham says the design style is inspired by zen from Buddhism. "Our design is totally different from others," he says. "They are very aggressive, mine is very simple and because mine is simple, everything must be simple, easy to accept. User-friendly." Several major auto makers are debuting electric vehicles at IAA motor show in Frankfurt, including BMW, Volkswagen and Jaguar. Despite that, Sham believes his electric-focused company can claim some of the auto market. "I've put my whole heart into the electric vehicle, they are only part of their business right?" he says. "And then they have a lot of people, they have legacy, I don't have that. "And we are not small anymore, two years ago yes, now I think we are a lot bigger than before." Jim Holder from UK-based motoring magazine 'Autocar' says smaller manufacturers are seeing opportunities to expand. "The Thunder Power, it's an intriguing name for a manufacturer and the car is slightly comical if we're honest, but we need to learn more about what they're aiming to do. A lot of people see an opportunity in the car market at the moment as it changes so much it's going to change more in the next ten years than it has in the last 100 and these are the brands, they see an opportunity to get in there and to do something different and to be able to use this new technology as well as the established car makers because it is new for everyone. And that's what they're trying to do. "Whether they'll be successful, they are one of many, it depends on the product and whether customers want to buy that product," he says. The biennale event opened to trade and media on 12 September and will open to the public 16-24 September at Frankfurt/Main exhibition grounds.
