How to Create new DataBase SQL server

01:22
Follow this step by step guide to create a new database in SQL server Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Here we'll learn about how to create new database sql server. Database is like a content pool, which is amalgamated, jotted together, or grouped into separate clusters having some kind of relation, or no relation in between themselves. These groups are called as tables. Tables generically contain fields which define what kind of data they can hold. You can take the idea of fields as a type definition, or placeholder for the content that comes in them. For example, a field of string can never contain an integer in it. And if a field is stated as null, it is bound to contain some data, with every record being inserted in that table. Step # 1 -- Creating a new database To create a database in sql server, right click on databases, and click on new database. This will show a pop-up the create new database in sql server window, which will ask you for a database name. Type in your desired database name. Step # 2 -- Exploring database options Now, in order to customize the settings of your database, click on the three dots (...) and see the list of options that you get. I will work on the default basic settings. Click okay to come back to your database. Step # 3 -- Changing the database collation Click on options to see what collations, you can designate your database. Here is the list of collations, SQL server supports. Hit okay, when your database settings are completed. Step # 4 --Inserting a table in the database Now right click on the database that you have created, and click new table. Add two fields named Id, and Name in the table. The type of Id, is short integer, and Name, is Variable Characters of length 50. Make sure, both are not null. Step # 5 --Populating your database tables Now right click on the table and click on edit 200 rows. Start populating your database table with some records. And that is how you create a database in sql server.

How to disconnect all connections on sql server database |kill all connections |disconnect all users

03:06
use master ALTER DATABASE YourDatabase SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE --do you stuff here ALTER DATABASE YourDatabase SET MULTI_USER This video is about killing or disconnect all connections to a database. The easiest way is bringing the database to single user mode and set it back to multiuser mode. This will disconnect all connections form all the users other than current one who is logged to the database. One important aspect here is, do not close the screen once you set the database to single user mode. Because when a database is in single user mode it will allow only a single connection to the database. If you allow dropping your connection and if any other connects to the database you will not be able to connect the database again. So you may have to Stop the SQL server and start again to connect the database. It is also possible to do this using SQL management studio. Right click on the database, go to properties, go to options and move to restrict access option. There you can select the single user mode or multiple user mode. Now The question is why do you need to do this. I mean when, do you want to kill all connections. It is mainly, when you want to have exclusive access to the database. For example a database is not allowing you to restore a backup on this because you cannot grant the exclusive access, then you can bring the database to single user mode; killing all connections; perform your activates and after that set it to the multi user mode. This way you can maintain the exclusive access while you are completing the work.

SQL Server 17 - ON DELETE and ON UPDATE

08:14
Now, what happens when you have successfully created a reference, and now you try deleting the parent? This is where the ON DELETE clause comes in. This is essentially how we configure how strict a foreign key is. There are 4 options you can give for an ON DELETE: Standard SQL Server NO ACTION Yes (Default) CASCADE Yes SET NULL Yes SET DEFAULT Yes Now the default is NO ACTION. This means that when you try to delete a parent row, SQL Server is going to throw an error and not let you. Cascade means that if you delete the parent row, any rows that reference that parent will also be deleted. This is pretty dangerous and not often recommended. SET NULL will set the foreign key to be NULL. Now obviously, this is going to require that the foreign key is not labelled NOT NULL. Finally, set DEFAULT will change the reference to the child row to some default value. We have not discussed defaults, but a column can have a default value. For example, we could make a deleted user in our Users table, and set the default for the foreign key to be the deleted user, and when any other users are deleted it will default to the deleted user UserId. In addition to the ON DELETE clause, there is the ON UPDATE clause. This one is a little less common because it configures what happens when a parent value changes. Obviously, when you are referencing a primary key, the ON UPDATE clause is nearly useless. That's because the primary key value is never supposed to change. If, on the other hand, we have a foreign key referencing a UNIQUE column that is not a primary key, it may change occasionally. So the only times you have to worry about the ON UPDATE clause is with foreign keys referencing UNIQUE columns that are not a primary key, and when you have natural keys that break the rules and actually do change at some point in time. The ON UPDATE clause has the same options as the ON DELETE clause and they all work the same way. Now, the last thing you need to know about foreign keys is that they must match the data type of the column you are referencing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

What happens when a query is issued to SQL Server 2. How to check what is in SQL Server plan cache 3. Things to consider to promote query plan reusability What happens when a query is issued to SQL Server In SQl Server, every query requires a query plan before it is executed. When you run a query the first time, the query gets compiled and a query plan is generated. This query plan is then saved in sql server query plan cache. Next time when we run the same query, the cached query plan is reused. This means sql server does not have to create the plan again for that same query. So reusing a query plan can increase the performance. How long the query plan stays in the plan cache depends on how often the plan is reused besides other factors. The more often the plan is reused the longer it stays in the plan cache. How to check what is in SQL Server plan cache SELECT cp.usecounts, cp.cacheobjtype, cp.objtype, st.text, qp.query_plan FROM sys.dm_exec_cached_plans AS cp CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(plan_handle) AS st CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_query_plan(plan_handle) AS qp ORDER BY cp.usecounts DESC As you can see we have sorted the result set by usecounts column in descending order, so we can see the most frequently reused query plans on the top. usecounts - Number of times the plan is reused objtype - Specifies the type of object text - Text of the SQL query query_plan - Query execution plan in XML format To remove all elements from the plan cache use the following command DBCC FREEPROCCACHE In older versions of SQL Server up to SQL Server 6.5 only stored procedure plans are cached. The query plans for Adhoc sql statements or dynamic sql statements are not cached, so they get compiled every time. With SQL Server 7, and later versions the query plans for Adhoc sql statements and dynamic sql statements are also cached. Things to consider to promote query plan reusability For example, when we execute the following query the first time. The query is compiled, a plan is created and put in the cache. Select * From Employees Where FirstName = 'Mark' When we execute the same query again, it looks up the plan cache, and if a plan is available, it reuses the existing plan instead of creating the plan again which can improve the performance of the query. However, one important thing to keep in mind is that, the cache lookup is by a hash value computed from the query text. If the query text changes even slightly, sql server will not be able to reuse the existing plan. For example, even if you include an extra space somewhere in the query or you change the case, the query text hash will not match, and sql server will not be able find the plan in cache and ends up compiling the query again and creating a new plan. Another example : If you want the same query to find an employee whose FirstName is Steve instead of Mark. You would issue the following query Select * From Employees Where FirstName = 'Steve' Even in this case, since the query text has changed the hash will not match, and sql server will not be able find the plan in cache and ends up compiling the query again and creating a new plan. This is why, it is very important to use parameterised queries for sql server to be able to reuse cached query plans. With parameterised queries, sql server will not treat parameter values as part of the query text. So when you change the parameters values, sql server can still reuse the cached query plan. The following query uses parameters. So even if you change parameter values, the same query plan is reused. Declare @FirstName nvarchar(50) Set @FirstName = 'Steve' Execute sp_executesql N'Select * from Employees where [email protected]', N'@FN nvarchar(50)', @FirstName One important thing to keep in mind is that, when you have dynamic sql in a stored procedure, the query plan for the stored procedure does not include the dynamic SQL. The block of dynamic SQL has a query plan of its own. Summary: Never ever concatenate user input values with strings to build dynamic sql statements. Always use parameterised queries which not only promotes cached query plans reuse but also prevent sql injection attacks.
