How to calculate returns on a stock exchange. S&P 500

17:49
This video shows number of important steps in return calculations. First of all it shows how to calculate returns on your investments. Here i have done it for S&P 500 but the same procedure can be used to calculate the returns of individual stock or returns on a portfolio. This video proceeds as 1. First calculate the monthly returns (simple returns) from the price data. We use the monthly price data of S&P 500 (US stock index). 2. Then plot the returns data to get a more clear visual view that what is happening? 3. Then calculate the compound returns from the monthly simple returns. This shows the growth in your wealth if you invest in a specific period. 4. As all the returns are on monthly basis so finally I estimate the annualized returns. For those who want to know where I get the data or how I get the data please watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSc-NpMqqwM&t=7s IF you are facing problems in how to download data please watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5LbIPYlGcQ&t=6s For annualized returns i have copied this explanation from investopedia. What is an 'Annualized Total Return' An annualized total return is the geometric average amount of money earned by an investment each year over a given time period. It is calculated as a geometric average to show what an investor would earn over a period of time if the annual return was compounded. An annualized total return provides only a snapshot of an investment's performance and does not give investors any indication of its volatility. ETFs - Exchange Traded Funds - What are ETFs? http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/ PLEASE SUPPORT LUCY BY LIKING AND SHARING THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! ETFs - Exchange Traded Funds - What are ETFs? What is an ETF and how does it work? Our presenter, Lucy explains the workings of exchange traded funds. - Are ETFs a good investment? What are the pros and cons of exchange-traded funds? - What is the difference between mutual funds and ETFs? - What is the difference: Index Fund versus Exchange Traded Fund? - Are ETFs derivatives? How big is the ETF market? - Are ETFs trading better than stock trading? - What are some of the strategies to trade exchange-traded funds? ETFs also known as exchange traded funds are popular because of their low cost, tax efficiency, and simplicity. An ETF is basically a security tracking a commodity, index or basket of assets like individual stocks. ETFs or exchange traded funds are baskets of stocks or other securities. Some are index ETFs and mirror the S&P 500 or FTSE or some other international index. The basic idea of an ETF is to shelter you from individual stock gains/losses so as to average out a small gain that beats inflation. Types of ETFs There are various types of ETFs : a. Index ETFs - Index underlying b. Stock ETFs - Stock underlying c. Sector ETFs - Underlying as a sector index or sector stocks d. Commodity ETFs - underlying as commodity index or commodities f. Inverse ETFs - has an inverse relationship with underlying, for e.g S&P 500 inverse, would gain 1% if S&P 500 falls 1 %. g. Bond ETFs - underlying Bond index or portfolio of bonds h. Currency ETFs - with currency underlying) j. Leveraged ETFs - giving a leveraged return for e.g. on an index, a 2X ETF would give double return or loss.

Warren Buffett - How Anyone can Invest and Become Rich

05:40
Website: https://primedlifestyle.com/ Instagram: Primed Berkshire Hathaway Annual report: http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/letters/2013ltr.pdf Warren Buffett's favorite book -The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2AlojQc Tony Robbins Money Master the Game on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2zyz84n Audible 30 day free trail: https://goo.gl/x64Vb9 Warren Buffett - One of the most successful investor of all times with an estimated net worth of over 80 billion dollars to this date has shared his methods for investing. Having bought his first stock at 11 years of age and having $53,000 dollars to his name at 17, he sure knows a thing or two about this market. And even though he spent a lifetime developing his skills, he’s has shared some very straightforward advice about investing that anyone can take advantage of. Warren Buffett’s first rule is to simply think long term over short term. He might be going overboard with this concept and he is truly embracing it around his entire life. He still lives in the same house he bought in 1958 and is also working at the very same desk since 50 years back and doesn’t use a computer but traditional pen and paper. He’s been quoted saying he doesn’t throw anything away until he’s had it for at least 20-25 years. So thinking long term is natural for him and the ability to resist selling has proved to be very successful for him. So having that said the reason why he’s holding on to what he buys is because he does his homework and does so very well. He’s stated many times that he spends 80 % of his day reading and catching up with the latest news and what companies to invest in. He thinks about life and investing as learning as much as he can and reads between 600-1,000 pages every single day. However not many people have the time or money to read for 8 hours a day and invest a few billions in the biggest companies like Warren Buffet, and it’s not a strategy that anyone can apply and find success with. And I wanted to make a video explaining how absolutely anyone can invest and become rich without taking time to read and grasp what to invest in which is why I’m super excited to share this with you. So when reading the Berkshire Hathaway Annual report of 2013, one of the most interesting paragraphs I found was on page 20 where he gave a very simple and straightforward advice about investing. He says “My money is where my mouth is: What I advise here is essentially identical to certain instructions I’ve laid out in my will. So in his will he’s demanded that future of his family's money money should be invested such as this: Put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund.” And he finishes it off by stating “I believe the trust’s long-term results from this policy will be superior to those attained by most investors” I told you it was straight forward. Don’t try to outplay the market but instead play with it. No man or machine can predict the ups and downs of the market, well except for Warren Buffett, so it would be foolish to try to beat it when you can simply join it. The very same formula was also mentioned in Tony Robbins book money master the game and index funds really seems to be the future of investments because the market will always rise in long term, and that’s essentially what you invest in - the market. The S&P 500 contains all the 500 largest companies that trade on NYSE and Nasdaq. Instead of picking stocks individually, you can now own a piece of all of the biggest companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Google. And investing in an index fund is very secure since a single company might go bankrupt, however the market will not. And you don’t have to stick to only the U.S market but could invest in the european and asian markets that’s also doing very well and you can even invest in global index funds to own a part of the biggest companies in the world. And for the other 10 %, the short-term government bonds is a very low risk low cost alternative that is also offered by vanguard amongst others. Short-term bonds are very attractive to investors because of they’re very stable and consistently rising, however the return tends to be smaller. And I’ll finish it off through Warren Buffett’s words: “The goal of the non-professional should not be to pick winners but should rather be to own a cross-section of businesses that in aggregate are bound to do well.” Music: Life of Riley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1400054 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

S&P 500 Facing Moment of Truth, Dollar Still Consolidating and Oil Gearing up for $26

08:49
Key points in this video: 1. The S&P 500 is at a major support level. It may bounce from here on some short covering; how high it bounces will also help determine whether this is a real bear or not. 2. The futures US dollar index has been consolidating; still waiting on it to clear 100.15 to confirm that the next leg of the dollar rally will occur. 3. Oil has cleared $30 and continues to drop. Next major support at $26. 4. Gold rallied well, but is still in a downtrend and below the 50 SMA and 200 EMA. A move above $1200 may change that.

For more info: http://www.easymarkets.com/gtw/6288142.aspx The buzz and excitement of the stock market, where fortunes can be made and lost. High profile traders look for opportunities to spread their portfolio across a broad spectrum of many different company stocks. The question is, can a trader of smaller means do the same? Good news; the answer is yes! Hi I’m James and I would like you to join me as we discover the markets. Today we are looking at Indices, in particular the SP500; probably the most followed Indice of them al. The aim is that by the end of this video, you will have a better understanding of this trading instrument. - Will this be continuous? So what is an Indice? Let’s find out A Indice, sometimes called index, in financial terms is an imaginary portfolio of securities representing a particular market or sometimes just a portion of it. The SP500 stands for Standard and Poor 500 as it tracks the 500 most widely held stocks on both the New York Stock exchange and NASDAQ. You can find it on our platform under the name US500. For any company to be part of the SP500, it must be based in the U.S. with a market cap of at least $5.3 billion. Now the five largest companies in the SP500 includes, Apple, Microsoft, Exxon Mobil and Johnson & Johnson. The SP500 is a measurement of the stock market and can itself be used as an economic indicator for the health of the US economy. So what are some ways to keep watch the SP500 you ask? one of the first things you need to consider is economic sentiment; pro tip when the market is optimistic it tends to look to invest into riskier assets like the SP500 while when the market is nervous and fearful, it tends to move its money into safe havens, like the USD, JPY, CHF and Gold. The SP500 also has a strong correlation to other markets, so it is a good idea to keep an eye on the performance of other Indices such as the DAX and the FTSE100 when trading the SP500. To help you analyze market sentiment you can often refer to our insider viewer. It is also a good idea to keep an eye on certain US economic indicators that can affect business growth of the 500 companies listed on the SP500. These include, US GDP Unemployment rate and job growth|(NFP) Consumer Price Index Retail sales Another thing is to keep eye on major headlines about some of the 500 companies listed on the SP500. For example, ask yourself how is Apple’s new product release affecting the company? And how will this affect the SP500? Another wise tip is to be aware of earning reports, which are often published quarterly by public companies and show earnings, expenses and net profit. To summarize the things to be aware of when you are looking to trade the SP500. Market Sentiment, risk on risk off Performance of other Indices such as the DAX or the FTSE100 US Economic indicators, like the US GDP and retail sales Headlines on certain companies And Earnings reports Join me next time, when we will discover OIL, till then thanks for watching and you trade safe.

This video will talk about the S&P 500 is. After watching this you will know what the S&P 500 is, how its selection works and why it is so important. The S&P 500 is a market index. A market index is just a selection of investments. In the case of the S&P 500 it is a selection of US stock. The S&P 500 consists of 500 US stocks that are selected by the S&P index committee at Standard and Poor's (a financial services firm). The index committee consists of analysts and economists. Standard and Poor's index committee aims to put the 500 most widely followed stocks in this market index. Leading companies are intended to go in the S&P 500. Companies can be replaced overtime in this market index. For example, if a company goes bankrupt and is no longer desirable), this company will probably be dropped and replaced by a company that the S&P index committee approves of. The S&P 500 is important because it is commonly known as the market index that represents the US market as a whole. Many investors (including myself) and mutal funds compare their investment results to that of the S&P 500. Are ETFs index funds?

03:37
Most ETFs try to match an index—like the S&P 500—but not all. So when you hear someone compare index ETFs with traditional actively managed funds, it's important to know the differences. Learn more about how each type of fund responds to market risk, when manager risk becomes a factor, and how management differences can affect your overall costs—including your taxes. When you're ready to choose ETFs to invest in, consider Vanguard ETFs®, which are always commission-free when you buy them through a Vanguard Brokerage Account. Visit https://vgi.vg/2JEk9H3 for details. **You must buy and sell Vanguard ETF Shares through Vanguard Brokerage Services (we offer them commission-free) or through another broker (which may charge commissions). See the Vanguard Brokerage Services commission and fee schedules at https://vgi.vg/2Krv6gj for limits. Vanguard ETF Shares are not redeemable directly with the issuing fund other than in very large aggregations worth millions of dollars. ETFs are subject to market volatility. When buying or selling an ETF, you will pay or receive the current market price, which may be more or less than net asset value.** **Visit https://vgi.vg/2KrBkwY to obtain prospectuses—or, if available, summary prospectuses—for Vanguard ETFs and mutual funds. The prospectus contains investment objectives, risks, charges, expenses, and other information; read and consider carefully before investing.** All investing is subject to risk, including the possible loss of the money you invest. Diversification does not ensure a profit or protect against a loss. The performance of an index is not an exact representation of any particular investment, as you cannot invest directly in an index. © 2018 The Vanguard Group, Inc. All rights reserved. Stock Market Index | by Wall Street Survivor

01:44
What is a stock market index? Learn more at: https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com An index, like the DOW, the S&P500 or the NASDAQ, is a sample of stocks that provide insight into the broader market. When someone says "the market is up 10 points today", they are referring to an index. By measuring the compilation of similar stocks instead of just one or two stocks, a stock index provides information about that particular market or segment. One of the most talked about and popular indexes is The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) which consists of 30 of the biggest companies in the U.S. Stock indices are typically related by some commonality: for example, the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 is an index that measures or tracks almost every publicly traded stock in the United States. The Morgan Stanley Biotech Index is a small index that follows the biotechnology market. Each stock index has a specific focus that can provide highly specific or very generalized information. S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100 Forecast April 24, 2019

02:07
The S&P 500 ripped to the upside during the trading session on Tuesday, as we finally broke above the 2920 level. In fact, we closed right at the highs of the day, so that is a very bullish sign and it looks like we could very well go looking towards the all-time highs rather soon. Were in the middle of earnings season, so quite frankly that could happen right away. Pullbacks could happen, but at this point I would have to believe that they are value, especially if we reach down towards the 2920 handle, an area that will attract a lot of attention. The strength of the move was rather impressive during the day, and volume was decent. With that being said and the fact that VWAP from the monthly timeframe was sitting just below the last couple of candles, it makes sense that institutional flow continues to press forward, and it looks like a breakout is coming rather soon. for more analysis: http://www.dailyforex.com

If Everyone Bought Index Funds...

04:55
If the majority of the market bought only index funds then it will essentially inflate the stocks that are included in the index. We already see this happening with stocks that are higher valued when they are included in the index as well as higher volatility during down turns. As the market moves towards more and more passive fund style, we will see this effect emphasized. This realization should make you think twice about the future of the market as a whole as 30% of all market values is passively traded right now as opposed to the estimated 50% in 2024. S&P 500 Re-enters Price Channel -- Is the Bull Market Back On?

07:04
1. Learn to trade and invest: http://www.informedtrades.com Key points in this video: 1. The S&P 500 is back in a price channel that it was in from August 2011 to August 2015. This may signal the bull market is back on, especially if the market can hold a test of the bottom trendline. 2. Related to the S&P 500 seeing strength and surging back into its former price channel is the weakness seeing on the US dollar. Gold/US dollar is at a previously-tested support level that coincides with the 50 SMA, while the US dollar/Chinese yuan exchange rate has bounced off resistance and is also declining. These trends, as well as the strength in the S&P 500, might last at least until the US dollar finds support on the US futures dollar index (DXY) and the FXCM dollar index.

S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100 Forecast April 18, 2019

01:14
The S&P 500 finally choked up some losses during the trading session on Wednesday after we initially tried to rally. By forming the shooting star that we have, it does look like we are going to run into a bit of trouble, as the market continues to grind through earnings season. At this point though, we are still very bullish longer-term, as we have been in a nice uptrend, but one should be noted that the market looks rather soft in the short term. At this point it’s probably more likely to offer a buying opportunity on a dip than anything else, and that it could be coming immediately. If we were to break above the top of the candle stick for the trading session on Wednesday though, that would be an extraordinarily bullish sign and could send this market towards the 2940 level eventually. for more analysis: http://www.dailyforex.com

SP500 SPY Index ETF supply and demand analysis and forecast

SP500 QQQ ETF supply and demand analysis and forecast for 22nd April 2019. SP500 SPY ETF is trying to break weekly supply at all time highs around 293. There is a clear long term weekly and monthly uptrend with all time highs previously eliminated and brand new demand zones created on bigger timeframes like the one on the weekly timeframe around 281.In an uptrend, supply levels are eliminated and demand levels are created and respected. NASDAQ QQQ ETF has already broken all time highs, expecting to see similar price action on QQQ and other american indexes like Dow Jones and Russell 2000 indexes. The bigger the impulse created by new imbalances of demand the better. There is no reason to go short counter-trend on SP500 SPY ETF when everything is heading north and new demand levels are being created. Trading with the trend is always higher odds. As supply and demand traders, we do not need to pay attention to the news, fundamentals or any earnings reports. Once a big timeframe imbalance has gained control, earnings do just the opposite and reacts strongly to those imbalances. Why is it that you see positive earnings and then the underlying stock drops like a rock, or a negative earnings announcement and the stock rallies like a rocket out of control? You are probably missing the fact that there are big imbalances gaining control.Unless you are doing very short term trading and scalping, you should not worry about fundamentals or earnings announcements. You can use these imbalances to plan your trades in lower timeframes. Trading is just waiting for the right trigger points and scenarios to present themselves, this game has got a name and it’s called the waiting game. We need to patiently wait for the correct scenarios and setups to happen and wait for price to pullback or dip into the price levels we want to trade, in our case these price levels are made of supply and demand imbalances. There are several ways of buying stocks. When trading stocks, you can buy shares of the underlying stock or use options strategies to go long or short at these specific supply and demand levels, long calls or long puts or spreads. You can even buy a CFD (contracts for difference) if you are in a country where it’s allowed.
