[HOW TO]- Store Bitcoin On USB Stick - Guide

14:01
In this video I'll show you how to make a secure and encrypted USB Bitcoin Wallet. I'm going to use MultiBit to create this wallet and then store it onto a USB thumb drive for safe keeping. I'm also going to copy the contents of the USB drive onto multiple other USB drives so that my money is backed up in multiple locations. This way, if anything happens to one of my USB wallets, I can fall back on a copy that I made, and recover the bitcoins (BTC). Even though there are copies of my wallet files, they will all be updated to the real balance if any one of them is modified. This is because the private keys, once accessed with your password or pass phrase, within the Bitcoin network ultimately keep track of the money associated with them. This is why we can create this wallet offline, and allow the network to synchronize and verify that the funds that are supposed to be in our wallet appear. If necessary, we can send the funds from the USB stick to another wallet, either Online, Cloud, or Offline cold storage. Thanks for watching! Cold storage is important for anyone with bitcoin holdings. Online computers are vulnerable to hackers and should not be used to store a significant amount of bitcoins. There are three ways to create secure Bitcoin cold storage: paper wallets, hardware wallets, and offline computers using software wallets. How To Make A Bitcoin Wallet Offline - Cold Storage Safe, Secure, Fast AND EASY!

07:59
If you store your Bitcoin at an online wallet like Coinbase or a trading exchange, THEY ARE NOT SAFE! Plain and simple! You need to create an OFFLINE wallet immediately! Offline wallets are also known as "Cold Storage" and it's the only way to ensure that your Bitcoins stay safe and secure! If this is the first time you've ever heard of a cold storage wallet or a bitcoin private key, I would strongly suggest doing more research into Bitcoin before you invest any more of your money. The worst possible thing to have happen is someone come along and steal your Bitcoins because you didn't properly secure them. Sign Up to Coinbase & Get $10 FREE - https://goo.gl/G4CKRw If making your own offline cold storage wallet seems like too much work or if you think you'd find a way to mess it up, I would suggest buying a Trezor Hardware Wallet. These things are more secure than an online wallet and are SUPER easy to use! There are several types of wallets that provide different ways to store and access your digital currency. Wallets can be broken down into three distinct categories – software, hardware, and paper. Software wallets can be a desktop, mobile or online. Desktop: wallets are downloaded and installed on a PC or laptop. They are only accessible from the single computer in which they are downloaded. Desktop wallets offer one of the highest levels of security however if your computer is hacked or gets a virus there is the possibility that you may lose all your funds. Online: wallets run on the cloud and are accessible from any computing device in any location. While they are more convenient to access, online wallets store your private keys online and are controlled by a third party which makes them more vulnerable to hacking attacks and theft. Mobile: wallets run on an app on your phone and are useful because they can be used anywhere including retail stores. Mobile wallets are usually much smaller and simpler than desktop wallets because of the limited space available on a mobile. Hardware: wallets differ from software wallets in that they store a user’s private keys on a hardware device like a USB. Although hardware wallets make transactions online, they are stored offline which delivers increased security. Hardware wallets can be compatible with several web interfaces and can support different currencies; it just depends on which one you decide to use. What’s more, making a transaction is easy. Users simply plug in their device to any internet enabled computer or device, enter a pin, send currency and confirm. Hardware wallets make it possible to easily transact while also keeping your money offline and away from danger. Paper: wallets are easy to use and provide a very high level of security. While the term paper wallet can simply refer to a physical copy or printout of your public and private keys, it can also refer to a piece of software that is used to securely generate a pair of keys which are then printed. Using a paper wallet is relatively straightforward. Transferring Bitcoin or any other currency to your paper wallet is accomplished by the transfer of funds from your software wallet to the public address shown on your paper wallet. Alternatively, if you want to withdraw or spend currency, all you need to do is transfer funds from your paper wallet to your software wallet. This process, often referred to as ‘sweeping,’ can either be done manually by entering your private keys or by scanning the QR code on the paper wallet. How to Create a Bitcoin Cold Storage Wallet Using Electrum

35:15
The Crypto Dad shows you how to set up a cold storage wallet using the Electrum Bitcoin wallet. We go through creating an “air-gapped” computer with no connection to the Internet. Then we install the Electrum Bitcoin Wallet on that computer. This copy will be used just to sign transactions. It will never connect to the Internet. We than install the “watching-only” component on our normal “working machine” This component of the wallet will only receive bitcoin or broadcast transactions that have been signed by the cold storage component. The Electrum Bitcoin wallet is software that runs on your computer. It is an application that allows you to send, receive and store bitcoins. It also has advanced features that allow you to check your current balance, see a list of transactions, and even maintain several “wallets”. It does this by allowing you to access a bitcoin address on the Bitcoin blockchain. Access to a Bitcoin address is provided by a cryptographic key-pair. The key-pair is a public/private asymmetric cryptographic key. The public key is the receiving address. This is the address you can share with others, so they can send you bitcoins. The private key is the part that allows you to send bitcoins. The Electrum Bitcoin software creates a new key-pair whenever you create a new wallet. It stores the private key on your computer. The private key is protected by on-disk encryption. Electrum will automatically decrypt the private key when you wish to send bitcoins. Access to the private key is also enhanced by a password or your own choosing that you can set when the wallet is created. Best practice is to choose a strong password for your Electrum Bitcoin Wallet. The Electrum Bitcoin Wallet is one of the most popular Bitcoin wallets for desktops. It has several advanced features that make it robust and flexible. It supports Two Factor Authentication, Multi-sig Wallets, and Cold Storage. Another unique feature of the Electrum Bitcoin Wallet is that it does not require you to download the entire Bitcoin Blockchain on to your computer (which can be time-consuming and requires a lot of space). It does this by maintaining several Blockchain servers which allow you to quickly access the current state of the Bitcoin Blockchain and the up-to-date status of the wallets you control. This includes your current balances and the transaction history for each of your wallets. What is Bitcoin? Bitcoin is a new technology that functions as a digital currency. It is a peer-based, decentralized way to hold, store, send, and receive value. It does this by maintaining a cryptographic “ledger” called the Blockchain. All of the bitcoins in existence are created and stored on the Blockchain. Bitcoin with a capital “B” refers to the technology itself. Bitcoin spelled with a little “b” refers to the tokens that hold the value and can be exchanged with others. Multiple copies of the Blockchain exist on thousands if not millions of computers worldwide. Each copy of the Blockchain “verifies” itself by connecting to the Internet and making sure it has the most up-to-date list of transactions. The Blockchain maintains its integrity by using strong, modern, encryption techniques. This makes it impossible for anyone to alter the ledger, create fake transaction or “double-spend” their bitcoins. Bitcoins do not require banks or third-party financial services to act as central clearing houses for electronic transfers. In essence, Bitcoin technology “cuts out the middleman”. Bitcoin is a decentralized, peer-to-peer monetary system that exists outside of the traditional, centralized, fiat-currency based financial system.

Standalone Bitcoin Offline Wallet Printer Demo

01:33
This is a demo of a protoype bitcoin paper wallet printer I have built. The device is completely standalone and includes a bitcoin address generator and integrated printer. The internal random number generator continuosly tests itself against a subset of the NIST statistical test suite to ensure the random number generator is operating securely. The random number source is based on this project. http://robseward.com/misc/RNG2/ More information on paper wallets and how they can be securely generated is here. There is more information here. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Paper_wallet This device fills the gap that you currently need to protect any computer and printer you use to print paper wallets against malware. This printer cannot be connected to the internet so if you trust the hardware and software built into it you can safely generate paper wallets. For those that are interested heres a picture of the innards of the device. http://imgur.com/OeGyVCB

It’s the private address that you want to keep from exposing to potential hackers by keeping your computer offline while this is being displayed because it is the private key that allows you to withdraw the funds. Print out this page, make a copy just in case, or write it down, both the public and private keys or addresses and store somewhere very safe. Now when you are ready to move your bitcoin or you want to cash out, you can do this by creating a free account with blockchain.info. All you need is an email and password. Once you are signed up they will send you an email with your wallet ID, now this is very important because you’ll need this ID to log into this account. With your brand new account you’ll need to go to the settings menu and under the security options be sure to back up your account with the wallet recovery phrase. This will allow you to still gain access to your funds even if you forget your password. Once you’ve written down your recovery phrase store this in a safe place much like you would your private key for your paper wallet. How you import your paper wallet onto your blockchain.info account. Go to Settings and then select the addresses option. Here you can Import addresses. Now pay attention. In order to import your paper wallet you’ll need to type in the PRIVATE address of your paper wallet. It is for this reason that I highly suggest that you take out all coins from the paper wallet as the private key has essentially been compromised. Even if you want to continue storing some of your bitcoin on a paper wallet, just create a new paper wallet and store them there. Discontinue use of any paper wallet that has had it’s private key used anywhere on the internet. You can do so by getting your blockchain.info wallet address by selecting the “receive” option here, copy the address and then go to the “send” option and select the wallet you’d like to send coins from, and paste the address of the blockchain.info wallet. So you will have effectively imported your paper wallet and transferred all of your funds out of that paper wallet address and onto your blockchain.info wallet, the same wallet that is now backed up with your recovery phrase. Congratulations! Whenever you want to send coins from one wallet to another, this includes exchanges, since the coins you have on an exchange are in a wallet on that exchange… you’ll need to follow this general protocol. Three very important tips for anyone new to transferring their crypto: First, be sure the wallet you are sending your coins to is appropriate for the coins you are sending, you cannot send ethereum into a bitcoin address, or pivx to a Monero address, or steem to a steem backed dollar address. If you do this your coins will be lost. Second, be sure you input the correct address into the recipient field. I know most crypto addresses have a lot of upper and lower case letters and numbers and they can be daunting to look at at first, so I always double check the first few characters and the last few characters to be sure that I’m sending my coins to the right address. Third, if you need to transfer a large amount of coins and you’re nervous because it’s your first time transferring that particular coin or it’s your first time using that particular address, just send a small amount first. Once you see that it’s gone through then you can have some peace of mind that you can send the larger amount successfully.

Recover Litecoin If Sent to Bitcoin Wallet Address Electrum

09:55
This tutorial only works if you have access to your private keys of your BTC address, but if your wallet is ledger nano S you will have to follow a different guide since that creates Segwit addresses, they start with a 3, but they are different than a multisig. In this video I send litecoin to a multisig 2FA bitcoin address, and demonstrate how to recover it. This is useful if you accidentally copied a bitcoin address when you were intending to copy a litecoin address. So your LTC got locked in a BTC address. Always use strong passwords, never leave a wallet file without a password. Use a hardware wallet if you can. Control your own keys, do not leave coins on exchanges. I am going to leave the LTC in the wallet, help yourself, whoever takes it please leave a comment below. Also never show people your seed on internet unless you are intending to give away the coins, also it is really bad practice to put your seed in a text document, write it down by hand. :) Another consideration, disconnect yourself from the internet to do this tutorial, you really do not want to have your private keys on the screen or in plain text ever, unless you are disconnected from the internet and know your computer is clean hasn't been compromised. In this tutorial we are going to get our private keys from the bitcoin core wallet. This only works when you created the bitcoin address in the same wallet. Backing up Your bitcoins using the Electrum Bitcoin Wallet

18:47
The Crypto Dad shows you how to back up the Electrum Bitcoin wallet. I go through making sure your password is stored in a safe place. Then I talk about printing out the seed and keeping it safe. Then I discuss how to export your private keys. Finally, I show you how to make a copy of your wallet and re-open it. Electrum bitcoin wallet: https://electrum.org/#home iPhone Screen share was done using X-Mirage http://www.x-mirage.com/ Passwords were stored in the One Password App https://1password.com/ Donate Bitcoin: 1JBxwXG8P6PYKKsrHKzQduM8s8RoV3dnjr What is the Electrum Bitcoin Wallet?

Bitcoin 101 - Getting Your BTCs out of Your Paper Wallets & Cold Storage - Fun with Sloppy Wallets

10:54
Are your bitcoins stuck in cold storage or on your paper wallet? Sure those are both GREAT places to keep them, but how do you get them out? What does 'sweeping' mean? These ideas are the goal of this video. Hopefully by the end of these videos you will no longer be afraid to take your bitcoins out of the reaches of malware programmers. This is part two of our bitcoin security series. Here's the intro to the series... ========= Bitcoin security? UGH!!! Way too many bitcoins are being stolen by crafty malware programmers. Bitcoin does so many things better than banks (trusts, escrows, programmable money, cheap transfers, instant accounts, etc.), but one area that is not quite so nice, is security. While the bitcoin network, itself, appears bullet-proof, lots of bitcoins are being stolen, via hacking, malware and flaws in online wallets and even google's random number generator. The answer is to get your bitcoins entirely offline, and the two ways to do this are paper wallets and cold storage. The previous video is an introduction to making both, while this video focuses on how to get your bitcoins out of cold storage (to spend, to move to another wallet, etc). James walks you through the software and ideas used in making 'sloppy' offline wallets (which are great to have). He also gives suggestions at making even better offline wallets. This is the first of many videos we will make on bitcoin security, and the least technical. We hope you'll enjoy. Here's the public address to the wallet we sent the funds too...good luck...hope you get there first. https://blockchain.info/address/19ZxxVTac6zxH9a9xqXhtntepTLosFa8F9 Here is the live link to our donation address https://blockchain.info/address/1javsf8GNsudLaDue3dXkKzjtGM8NagQe Feel free to like, subscribe, comment or even drop a little jangly in our bitcoin tip jar 1javsf8GNsudLaDue3dXkKzjtGM8NagQe Welcom to WBN's Bitcoin 101 Blackboard Series -- a full beginner to expert course in bitcoin. 3 of the BEST Bitcoin Wallets

08:11
3 of the Best Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrency Wallets Get $10 of free bitcoin as a new Coinbase using this referral link https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a14bfa7e149ab02033d374b Product links ------------------------------ Ledger Nano S: http://amzn.to/2EjGY4I Trezor Wallet: http://amzn.to/2Cd7x5u Coinbase Software Wallet: https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a14bfa7e149ab02033d374b ------------------------------ The Best Bitcoin Exchange ------------------------------ Buy Bitcoins with Coinbase: https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a14bfa7e149ab02033d374b See terms in referral link to qualify for $10 of free bitcoin. ------------------------------ 3 questions to ask yourself to find the best cryptocurrency wallet: 1.) What coins are you interested in? -- The three picks on my shortlist all have integrations to work with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many of the other major alt coins. But not all cryptocurrency wallets work with all cryptocurrencies. You’ll need to determine which cryptocurrencies you’ll be buying and selling to chip away at the long list of options available in the market. 2.) Do you want a hardware wallet or a software wallet? -- This is actually more a question of how much security do you require for your cryptocurrency wallet? Hardware wallets offer the most complex and robust security of any type of bitcoin wallet. That’s because the physical hardware device must be connected to a computer or smartphone to execute a transaction. The downside is hardware wallets offer less flexibility compared to software wallets, such as online services offered through the Coinbase exchange. These deeper integrations do make most software wallets more useful in more scenarios, whether you’re trading coins or making purchases online. 3.) What’s your budget – You’ll have to shell out some dough, upwards of $100 in some cases, to get the most robust security that’s offered with hardware wallets. Software wallets, on the other hand, are mostly free. Types of cryptocurrency wallets: Hardware wallet -- Most hardware wallets utilize a USB connection to store your private keys. They offer the highest level of security since your information is stored offline. Hardware wallets still offer simple capabilities for transactions, but note that the wallet must be connected to a computer to make a transaction. The reduced flexibility is simply a tradeoff of holding cryptocurrency offline. Software wallet -- Usually a cloud-based interface on your computer or mobile device. They are less secure than hardware wallets since your information is stored online and can be susceptible to hacks. Software wallets are available on Mac OS and iOS enabled devices, as well as Windows and Linux, and across types of internet browsers. Paper wallet -- Consider a paper wallet the stock certificates of cryptocurrencies. A paper wallet will generally include a QR code that can be scanned and transferred to a software wallet when wanting to make a transaction. Otherwise, a paper wallet is simply a physical printout of your public and private keys.

Bitcoin 101 - Intro to Paper Wallets & Cold Storage - Bitcoin Security & Fun with Sloppy Wallets

26:57
Bitcoin security? UGH!!! This video is an introduction to making both. Host, James D'Angelo, walks you through the software and ideas used in making 'sloppy' offline wallets (which are great to have). He also gives suggestions at making even better offline wallets. This is the first of many videos we will make on bitcoin security, and the least technical. We hope you'll enjoy. Here's the private keys we generate in this video with their public addresses! PRIVATE KEY #1 (we sent one dollar to this one on Jan 5th) 5KNhmaUuPNeau7KptEhWefEcAwfMim8VABR6QhJH8JHAFBbnCe5 PUBLIC ADDRESS 17SwcawAtnCQmemPDDBGurd28tTbEbuK5z You can see it live here https://blockchain.info/address/17SwcawAtnCQmemPDDBGurd28tTbEbuK5z PRIVATE KEY #2 (we didn't send any funds to this one) 5J2VYxJsAktgLZ7PWNevxAEPFaKPftCYhyi1VxMHzT56kLTwtLY PUBLIC ADDRESS #2 19ZxxVTac6zxH9a9xqXhtntepTLosFa8F9 You can see it live here https://blockchain.info/address/19ZxxVTac6zxH9a9xqXhtntepTLosFa8F9 These keys will work forever, and are open wallets. You can play with them, send tiny amounts of bitcoins (very tiny because the funds in these wallets are spendable by anyone because the private key is public) and you can even withdraw the funds in them if there is still some left!!! nice. How to Download and Verify the Armory Bitcoin Wallet

Is Bitcoin money? Good question! The short answer is yes! But the long answer requires that we talk a little about what “money” is or what it should be. Money is basically an idea. It is a system that we can all agree upon which allows us to exchange value, so we do not have to carry around cows or chickens with us to trade for the things we need. An ideal money or “currency” should have the following properties: Portable Fungible (interchangeability) Dividable Durable Cognizable (easily identified) Stable Does Bitcoin fit the bill? Well it’s certainly portable. It is all digital. It weighs nothing (unlike gold which can be heavy and bulky in large amounts. For that matter, traditional paper currencies can also become heavy and bulky in large amounts!). It can be sent across the room or around the world with the same ease and comfort. You can carry it on a piece of paper, a laptop, or even your smart phone. It is Fungible. Every bitcoin is like every other bitcoin (unlike shells, beads, and traditional precious metal coins which can be “shaved” or diluted in purity) It is dividable. It is actually one of the most dividable currencies ever conceived! It is possible to spend small fractions of bitcoins and no need exists to make change. When was the last time you were able to spend 1/8 of a penny? Bitcoin is durable. It is protected by strong encryption and the Blockchain exists in thousands if not millions of locations simultaneously. You would literally have to delete the blockchain from every computer and smart phone in the world to destroy a bitcoin. Bitcoin is cognizable or easily recognized. It’s based on math. No one can dispute a number or deny that 1 + 1 =2. People are just beginning to understand what Bitcoin is. There is a bit of a learning curve. But once you are familiar with it, you will know it when you see it. Is Bitcoin stable? Well the current value of a bitcoin has been quite volatile lately in relation to other traditional currencies. But the Bitcoin plan calls for the creation of only 21 million bitcoins. In this way, Bitcoin will try to avoid the pitfalls of modern fiat currencies such as inflation, deflation, market manipulation, monetary policy, quantitative easing, and other central manipulations that effect the day-to-day value of the money we use.

The internal random number generator continuosly tests itself against a subset of the NIST statistical test suite to ensure the random number generator is operating securely. This device fills the gap that you currently need to protect any computer and printer you use to print paper wallets against malware. This printer cannot be connected to the internet so if you trust the hardware and software built into it you can safely generate paper wallets.

How To Send Bitcoin Wallet to Wallet Transfer

11:39
Spoiler alert: sending Bitcoin to someone else's wallet is more expensive than sending Litecoin, and it takes much longer, too. In this tutorial, I will compare sending them side-by-side. First, I send $100 of BTC from Coinbase, and then I sell $100 of BTC to buy LTC, and send that. (It's much faster.) But is it less expensive to send LTC instead of BTC? Because of Coinbase transfer fees, it's pretty tight. Watch the video to see which one is less expensive. How to Set up 2-factor Authentication in Electrum Bitcoin Wallet

16:15
The CryptoDad walks you through the basic steps of enabling 2-factor authentication for the Electrum Bitcoin Wallet. Electrum bitcoin wallet: https://electrum.org/#home You can find the google Authenticator App here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-authenticator/id388497605?mt=8 or search for it with your phone on the App Store Donate Bitcoin: 1JBxwXG8P6PYKKsrHKzQduM8s8RoV3dnjr What is the Electrum Bitcoin Wallet? They come in different forms, designed for different types of device. You can even use paper storage to avoid having them on a computer at all. Of course, it is very important to secure and back up your bitcoin wallet. Bitcoins are a modern equivalent of cash and, every day, another merchant starts accepting them as payment. We know how they are generated and how a bitcoin transaction works, but how are they stored? We store fiat cash in a physical wallet, and bitcoin works in a similar way, except it's normally digital. Well, to be absolutely accurate, you don't technically store bitcoins anywhere. What you store are the secure digital keys used to access your public bitcoin addresses and sign transactions. This information is stored in a bitcoin wallet. Bitcoin wallets come in a variety of forms. There are five main types of wallet: desktop, mobile, web, paper and hardware. Here’s how they work. Desktop wallets : If you have already installed the original bitcoin client (Bitcoin Core), then you are running a wallet, but may not even know it. In addition to relaying transactions on the network, this software also enables you to create a bitcoin address for sending and receiving the virtual currency, and to store the private key for it. Mobile wallets: Desktop-based wallets are all very well, but they aren't very useful if you are out on the street, trying to pay for something in a physical store. This is where a mobile wallet comes in handy. Running as an app on your smartphone, the wallet can store the private keys for your bitcoin addresses, and enable you to pay for things directly with your phone. Online wallets: Web-based wallets store your private keys online, on a computer controlled by someone else and connected to the Internet. Several such online services are available, and some of them link to mobile and desktop wallets, replicating your addresses between different devices that you own. Hardware wallets: Hardware wallets are currently very limited in number. These are dedicated devices that can hold private keys electronically and facilitate payments. Paper wallets: One of the most popular and cheapest options for keeping your bitcoins safe is something called a paper wallet. There are several sites offering paper bitcoin wallet services. They will generate a bitcoin address for you and create an image containing two QR codes: one is the public address that you can use to receive bitcoins; the other is the private key, which you can use to spend bitcoins stored at that address.
