Phil Wang OpenLink Financial SEF Execution: Buy Side Technology Challenges

06:48
In many ways buy-side firms are ready for mandatory trading on SEFs -- they've selected the SEF's on which they intend to trade various swaps products, and they've developed an understanding of how new requirements will impact their front, middle and back offices, observes Phil Wang, SVP, capital markets product development, OpenLink. But, he contends, many still have not made the technology investments necessary to optimize a straight-through processing workflow for SEF executions. Wang and TABB Group analyst Radi Khasawneh discuss the process of connecting to SEFs and finding liquidity, the prospect of consolidation among platforms, the alternative execution methods that can help the buy side access the new swaps ecosystem, and the new workflow challenges of SEF executions.

Forget College, Learn a Trade

04:04
I got to thinking about what I would do differently if I could go back in time. Would I go to college or learn a trade? I went to 1 1/2 years of college before dropping out, and I think that was the right decision. There seems to be a growing number of college graduates with no jobs and plenty of student loan debt. Maybe more young people should consider learning a skilled trade like electric, plumbing, masonry, drywall, HVAC, etc. Just to be clear, I'm not saying college isn't a good choice. I'm saying it shouldn't be a default choice after high school. NAFTA, Tariffs and Trade Wars…Oh My!

Get your FREE ITM INVESTMENT GUIDE: http://info.itmtrading.com/thanks-yt-free-guide/?ytv=IT060118 Link to Slides and Sources: https://www.itmtrading.com/blog/nafta-tariffs-trade-warsoh/ Insider selling more than doubled last week, with both technology and finance in the top five selling. Industrials and business services didn’t buy even one share, though they sold quite a bit, in continuation of the pattern that began last October. Why would they be selling so much if everything is so good? On May 31st tariffs were imposed on Canada, Mexico and the European Union. They are not happy and have struck back with dollar for dollar tariffs. In addition, they intend to trigger a dispute settlement case at the WTO (World Trade Organization). The bottom line is that there are so many wild geopolitical cards flying right now. Any one issue could topple this fragile system at any time because it’s built on a mountain of debt. As long as credit is available, this insanity can continue. But I believe the insider action is telling me that the end is very near. Blockchain for Trade Finance| Blockchain Use Cases

01:05
Blockchain will do wonders for Trade Finance, says, everyone. But no one explains why. Now. Watch this video to understand why Blockchain will take to Trade Finance like fish to water. Current Trade Process requires numerous paperwork to be confirmed by various parties, to ensure its accuracy. Databases are maintained by individual entities and must be reconciled constantly against each other. If there is an error in one document, corrective steps must then be taken to determine which (if any) copy of the document is correct. Which is a tedious job? Enter Blockchain! Because a Blockchain is updated quickly by each participant on the network to reflect the most recent transaction, it removes the need for multiple copies of the same document of information stored on numerous databases across various entities. And that is exactly how it will revitalize trade finance. A single Blockchain can embody all of the necessary information in one digital document which is a smart contract, which is updated instantly and runs automatically. Among the best of Blockchain's advantages is the speeding up of transaction settlement time (which currently takes days), increasing transparency between all parties, and unlocking capital that would otherwise be tied up waiting to be transferred between parties in the transaction. Zeonlab is a Blockchain consulting and development company. We develop applications/products on Ethereum, Hyperledger and other Blockchain platforms. We have some of the smartest Blockchain engineers in India, all from the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) We work with companies on identifying and developing use-cases (both Proofs-of-Concept and full-scale implementation) on Blockchain. We create the Proof-of-Concept first and do an end-to-end implementation on the existing tech stack of the client. It is typically followed by a testing and full-scale implementation phase. We also help create Blockchain capabilities in clients by training their employees. How Corporate Greed and Free Trade Policies Costs Our Middle Class (2006)

01:00:05
As early as 1994, Dorgan was sounding the warning about the speculation in unregulated financial derivatives. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/031235522X/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=031235522X&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=3295315304eb66c772a4a0dfc8f1060c This would later be a central issue in the subprime mortgage crisis and subsequent 2007–2012 global financial crisis by U.S. banks on their proprietary accounts. He wrote the cover story for the Washington Monthly magazine titled “Very Risky Business” warning of the danger to the economy of the wagers that large financial institutions were making by trading in unlimited derivatives. In 1999, Dorgan voiced continuing concern over lack of regulation of derivatives. We are moving towards greater risk. We must do something to address the regulation of hedge funds and especially derivatives in this country, $33 trillion, a substantial amount of it held by the 25 largest banks in this country, a substantial amount being traded in proprietary accounts of those banks. That kind of risk overhanging the financial institutions of this country one day, with a thud, will wake everyone up. Senator Dorgan was one of only eight members of the Senate to vote against the repeal of key provisions of the Glass-Steagall Act (contained in the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act) in 1999.[17] During debate on that 1999 legislation, in a speech on the Senate floor,[18][19] he said that, "it will in my judgement raise the likelihood of future massive taxpayer bailouts" (cited in John Lanacaster, Whoops, London, 2010, p. 161). On September 26, 2008, against a backdrop of growing economic turmoil caused by the Credit Crunch, David Leonhardt of The New York Times singled out a quotation made by Dorgan in 1999[17] during the US Senate's repeal of the Glass–Steagall Act. "I think we will look back in 10 years’ time and say we should not have done this, but we did because we forgot the lessons of the past, and that that which is true in the 1930s is true in 2010." On January 23, 2008, Dorgan was one of the first politicians to speak of the oncoming economic downturn in a speech to the Senate given in response to then-President Bush's economic stimulus package. Dorgan was born in Dickinson, North Dakota, the son of Dorothy and Emmett Patrick Dorgan, and was raised in Regent, North Dakota. His father's family was of Irish and Swedish ancestry,[8] while his mother's was German and Norwegian. He graduated from Regent High School and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Dakota and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver. Dorgan worked for the Martin-Marietta Corporation in the aerospace industry. Dorgan's public service career began at age 26, when he was appointed North Dakota State Tax Commissioner to a fill a vacancy opened upon the death of the incumbent tax commissioner. He was the youngest constitutional officer in North Dakota's history.[9] He was re-elected to that office by large margins in 1972 and 1976, and was chosen one of "Ten Outstanding State Officials" in the United States by the Washington Monthly magazine. His future Senate colleague Kent Conrad worked in the same office before succeeding Dorgan at this post. Dorgan ran unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress in 1974. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in his second bid in 1980. He was a member from 1981 until 1992, being re-elected five times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byron_Dorgan

What is BACK OFFICE? What does BACK OFFICE mean? BACK OFFICE meaning, definition & explanation

02:55
The Audiopedia Android application, INSTALL NOW - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wTheAudiopedia_8069473 What is BACK OFFICE? What does BACK OFFICE mean? BACK OFFICE meaning - BACK OFFICE definition - BACK OFFICE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A back office in most corporations is where tasks dedicated to running the company itself take place. The term back office comes from the building layout of early companies where the front office would contain the sales and other customer-facing staff and the back office would be those manufacturing or developing the products or those involved in administration without being seen by customers. Although the operations of a back office are seldom prominent, they are a major contributor to a business. Broadly speaking, back office includes roles that affect the left side (costs) of business' trading statement. Back offices may be located somewhere other than company headquarters. Many are in areas and countries with cheaper rent and lower labor costs. Some office parks provide back offices for tenants whose front offices are in more expensive neighborhoods. Back office functions can be outsourced to consultants and contractors, including ones in other countries. Examples of back-office tasks include IT departments that keep the phones and computers running (operations architecture), accounting, and human resources. These tasks are often supported by back-office systems: secure e-commerce software that processes company information (e.g., databases). A back-office system will keep a record of the company’s sales and purchase transactions, and update the inventory as needed. Invoices, receipts, and reports can also be produced by the back-office system. In banking, the back office includes a heavyweight IT processing system that handles position keeping, clearance, and settlement, but does not include the Compliance Department, which would be an external office. In investment firms, the back office includes the administrative functions that support the trading of securities, including record keeping, trade confirmation, trade settlement, and regulatory compliance. In sales, the back office typically plays a key role internally, providing support to the sales force for administrative duties such as legal, finance, marketing, order management, operations support, as well as customer facing roles typically positioned to include functions that support customer order fulfillment and duties involved with readying customer-support call centers.

On top of the World Trade Center 2001

05:31
Amazing video footage i took at the world trade center from the ground, observation deck and roof in the summer of 2001. I hope you like it and thanks for watching. I have also uploaded my video with extra footage and added music. Here is the link and i hope you like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjHXG3zm5SQ Although most of the space in the World Trade Center complex was off-limits to the public, the South Tower featured an indoor and outdoor public observation area called Top of the World Trade Center Observatories on its 107th and 110th floors. The original World Trade Center was a complex with seven buildings featuring landmark twin towers in Lower Manhattan, New York City, United States. The complex opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed in 2001 during the September 11 attacks. The site is currently being rebuilt with five new skyscrapers and a memorial to the casualties of the attacks. As of November 2011, only one skyscraper has been completed, with four more expected to be completed before 2020. One World Trade Center will be the lead building for the new complex and is expected to be finished by 2013. A sixth tower is still awaiting confirmation to be built. At the time of their completion, the original 1 and 2 World Trade Center were the tallest buildings in the world. The complex was designed in the early 1960s by Minoru Yamasaki and Associates of Troy, Michigan, and Emery Roth and Sons of New York.[2] The twin 110-story towers used a tube-frame structural design. To gain approval for the project, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey agreed to take over the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad, which became the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH). Groundbreaking for the World Trade Center took place on August 5, 1966. The North Tower (1) was completed in December 1972 and the South Tower (2) was finished in July 1973. The construction project involved excavating a large amount of material, which was later used as landfill to build Battery Park City on the west side of Lower Manhattan. The cost for the construction was $400 million ($2,200,000,000 in 2011 dollars).[3] The complex was located in the heart of New York City's downtown financial district and contained 13.4 million square feet (1.24 million m2) of office space.[4][5] The Windows on the World restaurant was located on the 106th and 107th floors of 1 World Trade Center (the North Tower) while the Top of the World observation deck was located on the 107th floor of 2 World Trade Center (the South Tower). Other World Trade Center buildings included the Marriott World Trade Center; 4 World Trade Center; 5 World Trade Center; 6 World Trade Center, which housed the United States Customs. All of these buildings were built between 1975 and 1981. The final building constructed was 7 World Trade Center, which was built in 1985. The second King Kong was filmed in 1976 with some scenes mentioning and showing the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center experienced a fire on February 13, 1975, and a bombing on February 26, 1993. In 1998, the Port Authority decided to privatize the World Trade Center, leasing the buildings to a private company to manage, and awarded the lease to Silverstein Properties in July 2001. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers flew two 767 jets into the complex, one into each tower, in a coordinated terrorist attack. After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower (2) collapsed, followed a half-hour later by the North Tower (1), with the attacks on the World Trade Center resulting in 2,753 deaths.[6] 7 World Trade Center collapsed later in the day and the other buildings, although they did not collapse, had to be demolished because they were damaged beyond repair. The process of cleanup and recovery at the World Trade Center site took eight months. The first new building at the site was 7 World Trade Center, which opened in May 2006. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC), established in November 2001 to oversee the rebuilding process, organized competitions to select a site plan and memorial design. Memory Foundations, designed by Daniel Libeskind, was selected as the master plan, which included the 1,776-foot (541 m) One World Trade Center, three office towers along Church Street and a memorial designed by Michael Arad. #911 #NewYork #2001 The Walk Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Ben Kingsley Charlotte Le Bon James Badge Dale Directed by: Robert Zemeckis

Focus on Funds: ICI Expands Its Service to the Industry’s “Middle Office”

02:17
(Transcript is below) Rapid change in the fund industry means that the operational support provided by what’s known as the “middle office” must evolve, explains Ahmed Elghazaly, ICI director of securities operations, in the September 2, 2016, edition of Focus on Funds. For more on Industry Operations resources, visit https://www.ici.org/ops ___________________________ Stephanie Ortbals-Tibbs, ICI Director, Media Relations: Fund operations professionals know that the middle office is increasingly important in their work. And that’s exactly why ICI is responding with new ideas and resources for members to use. Here’s a look. Ahmed Elghazaly, ICI Director, Securities Operations: If you look across the industry, you’ll find a wide range or a high degree of variability in what investment operations really means—whether it’s in the scope of activities, how it’s being done, or who is performing that. An example of that would be looking at some of the fund companies that have outsourced some or even all of their investment operations activities, while many others maintain their capabilities in house. What we’re trying to do at ICI Securities Operations Advisory Committee is to help fund companies navigate all these different variables. We’re trying to identify and develop best practices in areas where that doesn’t exist. We try to maintain a very active role in an advocacy effort. For example, when you look at industry initiatives such as the T+2 here in the US, to shorten the settlement cycle, our committee members have been very involved in this initiative, looking at it from an operations perspective, trying to reduce the operations risk in the system. Ortbals-Tibbs: So they are facing all of these new variables, as you say—the regulatory environment, new operational demands, globalization of their company—that’s feeding into all of this. How does your committee work respond to them, and help inform their work, and help them do their jobs better? Elghazaly: Sharing information and common practices is crucial to our members, and that’s the need and that’s what we keep hearing from them. If you look at the regulatory landscape, there was discussion recently on swing pricing, and that’s a crucial element in our discussion here. We’re trying to bring some of the practices that exist in Europe and try to share that with our members so we can help them navigate all these different challenges. Another thing is that we’re looking at new, emerging technologies. Blockchain or distributed ledger is one thing we’ve been keeping a close eye on. Ortbals-Tibbs: More resources and information are available on ICI’s website under the operations section.

The world’s next superpower - On the opposite end of the spectrum from financial experts like Warren Buffet, sits someone like Baba Vanga, a blind mystic from Bulgaria. Quantum Computing - Prepare to hear the word “quantum” quite a lot in 2018 as it is predicted to be the first year that we will see quantum computers solving computational problems that a conventional computer cannot. Nostradamus - When it comes to mystic and prophets, Nostradamus is regarded as the most famous and prolific. Online Media War - Over the past few years a huge shift has come to the entertainment world. Gene Editing - When asked about the most exciting scientific breakthroughs to expect for 2018, Dr. Eric Topol, a professor of Molecular Medicine at the Scripps Translational Science Institute, points to the unprecedented strides made in the field of genome editing and what potential it could have for this coming year. The standard model of particle physics was completed in 2012 with help from the Large Hadron Collider’s discovery of the Higgs boson. Internet Pricing Changes - One of the biggest debates of 2017 was the FCC’s move to repeal the Obama era Net Neutrality rules. Alex Jones thinks Trump could be assassinated - I know, I know… it can be hard to take Alex Jones from infowars seriously with all of the endless conspiracy theories that he purports to support and believe, but one of his predictions for 2018 has caught many people’s attention with its unfortunately believable claims.

Prospects for the Banking Industry by Mr Matthew Lobner from HSBC, hosted by Servcorp

35:26
Servcorp is the world's first and finest provider of Serviced Office and Virtual Offices, established in 1978 with over 130 locations worldwide. Every quarter, Servcorp proudly holds 'Servcorp Business Shorts', a free event inviting guest speakers from different well-known industries to share their experiences with like minded business professionals. The event is not only reserved for Servcorp clients but also open to all interested business professionals. Servcorp Thailand's 3rd Business Shorts held on the 6th of March welcomed Mr Matthew Lobner, CEO of HSBC as another privileged speaker. Mr Lobner's speech on Propspects for the Banking Industry attracted a large crowd to the event at The Offices at Centralworld. Mr. Lobner's 20 minute presentation spoke briefly of the global GDP and how Asia's market is rapidly growing and expecting to increase the current 10% share from 2010 to hold 39% of the market GDP by 2030. Despite the US and European Union is the top of the market, Asia holds stronger fiscal positions in the market, with China tagging closely behind. Currently holding over half of the global GDP, Asia's middle class growth is greatly expanding and contributing even further to the market. Asia, however, should still be aware of the global financial crisis and how the situation in countries like Italy and Spain can affect the Eurozone GDP on the whole being larger countries with greater shares. Figures also show that businesses are becoming more international as modern SMEs are quickly expanding overseas with 74% of all companies with plans of international operation and 40% looking to open up abroad in the next two years. HSBC aims to help businesses in their expansion as well as to take care of their clients in the long term after proving to remain profitable during the financial crisis. About Mr Matthew Lobner: Prior to relocating to Thailand, Matthew was the Global Head of Corporate/International Business, Commercial Banking, in HSBC Hong Kong. He joined HSBC in 2005 after a period as Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company. Before joining the private sector, he served as an officer in the United States Navy. At HSBC, Lobner has worked in Chicago in consumer lending and in London in an international division covering Europe and the Middle East. At McKinsey, he was based in Chicago for four years.

Thomas Jefferson & His Democracy: Crash Course US History #10

13:19
In which John Green teaches you about founding father and third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson is a somewhat controversial figure in American history, largely because he, like pretty much all humans, was a big bundle of contradictions. Jefferson was a slave-owner who couldn't decide if he liked slavery. He advocated for small government, but expanded federal power more than either of his presidential predecessor. He also idealized the independent farmer and demonized manufacturing, but put policies in place that would expand industrial production in the US. Controversy may ensue as we try to deviate a bit from the standard hagiography/slander story that usually told about old TJ. John explores Jefferson's election, his policies, and some of the new nation's (literally and figuratively) formative events that took place during Jefferson's presidency. In addition to all this, Napoleon drops in to sell Louisiana, John Marshall sets the course of the Supreme Court, and John Adams gets called a tiny tyrant. Hey teachers and students - Check out CommonLit's free collection of reading passages and curriculum resources to learn more about the events of this episode. Thomas Jefferson is remembered as the Founding Father responsible for saying all men are created equal in The Declaration of Independence: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/the-declaration-of-independence Jefferson didn't always practice what he preached though, as seen in his mixed views on American Indians: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/excerpts-from-thomas-jefferson-s-writings-on-american-indians Follow us! http://www.twitter.com/thecrashcourse http://www.twitter.com/realjohngreen http://www.twitter.com/crashcoursestan http://www.twitter.com/raoulmeyer http://www.twitter.com/thoughtbubbler http://www.twitter.com/saysdanica Like us! http://www.facebook.com/youtubecrashcourse Support CrashCourse on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/crashcourse

11. Behavioral Finance and the Role of Psychology

01:18:03
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) Deviating from an absolute belief in the principle of rationality, Professor Shiller elaborates on human failings and foibles. Acknowledging impulses to exploit these weaknesses, he emphasizes the role of factors that keep these impulses in check, specifically the desire for praise-worthiness from Adam Smith's The Theory of Moral Sentiments. After a discourse on Personality Psychology, Professor Shiller starts a list of important topics in Behavioral Finance with Daniel Kahneman's and Amos's Tversky's Prospect Theory. The value function and the probability weighting function, as two key components of this theory, help explain certain patterns in people's everyday decision making, e.g. the existence of diamond ring insurance and airline flight insurance. An in-class experiment underscores the prevalence and importance of the concept of overconfidence. Further topics include Regret Theory, gambling behavior, cognitive dissonance, anchoring, the representativeness heuristic, and social contagion. Professor Shiller concludes the lecture with some perspectives on moral judgment in the business world, addressing shared values and integrity. 00:00 - Chapter 1: Human Failings & People's Desire for Praise-Worthiness 11:37 - Chapter 2.
