How to Work Faster & More Efficiently on a Mac

23:13
I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: https://phlearn.com/aaronwillteachyou How to Work Faster & More Efficiently on a Mac Recently I was using a friends brand new Mac and I couldn’t believe how difficult it was to navigate well. I offered to change a few settings on his computer and after we finished, workflow became lighting fast. Knowing I make tutorials on YouTube, he said “You gotta make this into a tutorial”. So here it is. In this video I will show you how I have my own computers set up to work faster and more efficiently. If you have tips on increasing speed and efficiency, share them in a comment! – Aaron Nace General Preferences & Settings There are many things you can do with the general settings on your Mac, here are the settings I recommend. Mouse/Trackpad Tracking Speed – Go Lighting Fast! It may be a little tough in the beginning, but I highly recommend setting your Tracking Speed on your mouse or trackpad as high as you possibly can. Then in a couple of weeks, try making it even faster. Here is why – the faster the Tracking Speed, the less you have to move your hand to navigate your computer, this means you can get from one side of the screen to the other FASTER! Hide the Dock I suggest making the dock as small as possible and checking the box – Automatically hide and show the Dock. When you need to access the Dock, simply bring your cursor to the bottom of the screen. Congrats, you have just freed up 10% of your screen! Mission Control & Hot Corners Mission Control is one of the best productivity tools a Mac User can use. Mission Control allows you to use multiple desktops and quickly see and organize what is on each desktop. For instance, you can have your internet browser open in full screen on one desktop, and Photoshop opened in full screen on another desktop – all while using the same monitor. I have found that the easiest way to access Mission Control is through setting up a Hot Corner. To set up Hot Corners, open the Mac Preferences and go to Mission Control. Click the ‘Hot Corners…’ button on the bottom left of the dialog box. Here you can turn the corners of your screen into a shortcut. You have many options here, my preference is to set up the top right corner as “Mission Control.” This way, any time you bring your cursor to the top right of the screen, Mission Control opens and you can see all of your apps and desktops in one view. Once you are using Mission Control, add more desktops by clicking the + Plus icon on the top right of your screen. Drag apps to the new desktops and use Mission Control to switch to the desktops. You can also use keyboard Shortcut CONTROL + LEFT ARROW / RIGHT ARROW to cycle through desktops. Apps for Efficiency There are many apps that will increase efficiency on your Mac, in this tutorial we cover two of my favorite apps – “Better Snap Tool” and “Daisy Disk” Better Snap Tool The Better Snap Tool (Available in the App Store) allows you to snap windows to different part of the screen quickly and easily. How often have you wanted two web pages open side-by-side on your screen? Better Snap Tool makes this very easy, just click and drag one window to the left side of the screen and the other to the right. Need to make a window full-screen? Just drag the window to the top of the screen. Daisy Disk Daisy Disk (Available in the App Store) displays all of the files and folders on your computer in a visual layout. The layout looks like a pie chart, making it easy to see what files and folders are taking up more space on your computer. There is also a built-in tool for removing any files or folders you don’t want, simply drag them to the bottom of the window. Keyboard Shortcuts Keyboard shortcuts are great time-savers. Instead of browsing through menus, simply press a few buttons and get the job done! Switch Apps – CMD+TAB Cycle through Desktops – CONTROL+LEFT ARROW / RIGHT ARROW Spotlight – Search any app or file on your computer – CMD+SPACEBAR Close Window – CMD+W Close App – CMD+Q New Window – CMD+N New Tab – CMD+T VISIT PHLEARN.COM FOR MORE FREE TUTORIALS https://phlearn.com SUBSCRIBE NOW FOR MORE FREE TIPS AND TRICKS http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=phlearnllc GET FREE TUTORIALS SENT TO YOUR EMAIL + DISCOUNTS ON OUR PRO TUTORIALS! https://phlearn.com/mail LET'S BE FRIENDS! How to Wipe & Restore a MacBook Pro/Air to Sell

04:20
How to wipe a MacBook Pro/Air and restore to sell on eBay or give away. WD External Hard Drive on Amazon: http://geni.us/vveLvB How to backup a Mac with Time Machine: https://youtu.be/cqmPi3fnl4E There are some things you need to do before you sell your Mac in order to wipe your personal data off securely and reinstall OS X. You'll want to back up your computer, sign out of your Apple accounts, erase the hard drive, and restore OS X. This video shows you the steps you should follow. If you already have your new Mac, you can use Apple's Migration Assistant to move your files over. However, I don't have my new Mac yet so I'll start with the backup. 1. Create a backup Connect an external hard drive to your Mac (or you can use a Cloud storage solution if you have enough space available) and backup all your important data such as photos, music, videos, documents, etc. 2. Sign out of Apple services Open iTunes. From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose Store, Deauthorize This Computer. When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password. Then click Deauthorize. While still in iTunes go to Store, Sign Out. Next sign out of iCloud. If you use Find My Mac or other iCloud features on your Mac, you should first archive or make copies of your iCloud data. After that, choose Apple Menu, System Preferences, click iCloud, and then deselect the Find My Mac checkbox. In System Preferences, click iCloud, and then click the Sign Out button. When you sign out of iCloud, you're asked whether you want to remove iCloud data from your Mac. Your iCloud data will remain on any other devices that are using the same Apple ID. If you're using OS X Mountain Lion or later, sign out of iMessage by going to the Messages app, choose Preferences, Accounts. Select your iMessage account, then click Sign Out. 3. Erase your Mac hard drive and reinstall OS X If you're transferring your Mac to a new owner, you might want to erase your built-in startup disk before reinstalling OS X. Before you erase and reinstall, make sure you have backed up your important files. If you’re using a MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro, make sure the power adapter is connected and plugged in while performing these steps. You can use these steps to erase the files on your startup disk and install a new copy of OS X: Before you begin, make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet. Restart your Mac. Immediately hold down the Command and R keys after you hear the startup sound to start up in OS X Recovery. When the Recovery window appears, select Disk Utility then click Continue. Select the indented volume name of your startup disk from the left side of the Disk Utility window, then click the Erase tab. If you want to securely erase the drive, click Security Options. Select an erase method, then click OK. From the Format pop-up menu, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Type a name for your disk, then click Erase. After the drive is erased, close the Disk Utility window. If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu. Select the option to Reinstall OS X. Click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall OS X. After you reformat your hard drive and reinstall OS X, the computer restarts to a Welcome screen and asks you to choose a country or region. If you want to leave the Mac in an out-of-box state, don't continue with the setup of your system. Instead, press Command-Q to shut down the Mac. When the new owner turns on the Mac, the Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process. Linux add to $PATH: Fix "command not found" error (Linux & Mac)

06:20
Linux add to path. Understand the "Command Not Found" error. https://truthseekers.io/lessons/linux-add-to-path-command-not-found/ 0:20 - What the $PATH environment variable does 1:18 - Example of using Linux $PATH 1:50 - Command not found error 2:14 - Running command from directory 3:03 - Updating your $PATH variable 4:00 - Append new folder to path 5:15 - Prepend new folder to beginning of path One of the most important things to understand when installing programs and using your terminal is to know how the $PATH environment variable works on Linux, Mac, and even Windows systems. In this video we'll show you how to work with your $PATH. In short, the $PATH variable lists all the directories that the computer will look through to try to find a command you've entered in the terminal. If you run a command, and it's not found in any of the folders in your $PATH, then it will throw an error "command not found". You have several options. 1. Call the command by specifying the location of the executable file. 2. Move the executable file to a folder that's already in your $PATH 3. ADD the proper directory to the $PATH. ============ More Info ============ Visit Our Website: https://truthseekers.io Follow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/truthseekers.io/ ========================

Server in 90 seconds - Minecraft on Mac - start.command

02:40
http://www.serversetup.tv/minecraft-server-mac-shell-script/ Start a Minecraft server on your Mac OS computer in less than 90 seconds using a start.command file. This is an easier and nicer method for starting a server at home than using terminal as I did in my previous video. Here are the secret details that you need to paste into the start.command file: #!/bin/bash cd "$(dirname "$0")" exec java -Xmx1500M -Xms1500M -jar minecraft_server.jar You can edit the parameters of -Xmx and -Xms to change the amount of RAM the server may use. It can also be specified in Gigabytes like this: -Xmx1G. One to two gigabytes work well for small servers. You don't need too much RAM because your home internet connection will probably limit the maximum number of players you can have before your RAM does. Minecraft is a really fun game by Mojang AB. I'm not affiliated with Minecraft or Mojang AB and demonstration of the Minecraft server software does not constitute an endorsement by Mojang AB.

12 Mac Hidden Features You NEED to Be Using

05:23
For beginners or advanced Mac users: These are my top 12 favorite Mac OS hidden features that you need to be using. Subscribe! http://goo.gl/RqU0nl Spacebar to preview One of the simplest tricks on Mac is press Spacebar to preview files. It works on a surprisingly large variety of file formats: office docs, PDFs, audio files, video files, fonts, etc. Saves a lot of time. Spotlight Cmd + Spacebar is the shortcut to Spotlight search which you can use to quickly open apps or files. This is a very simple and well-known feature and one of my most used keyboard shortcuts on the Mac. Spotlight can also perform calculations and look up other useful info like current conversion rates for currencies, the weather and flight statuses. Digitally Sign PDFs with Preview Preview app can automatically create a digital signature to allow you to digitally sign PDFs. Go to Preview, Tools, Annotate, Signature, Manage Signatures. Then hold up a signed piece of paper to the webcam and it will automatically create and save that digital signature for you so you can use anytime you need to digitally sign a PDF in the future. Emoji Keyboard To bring up the emoji keyboard in Mac OS simply press ctrl+Cmd+space Quickly hide or close apps Hold Cmd while pressing tab to scroll through your open apps. When you reach the app you want to close or hide, press either Q to quit or H to hide the app. Dictation MacOS has a built-in speech to text feature called Dictation. Show Full File Path in Finder | OSX | Terminal Command | Hindi

02:04
Finder in OS X is the default application for browsing your Mac’s files, but it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of the directories through which you navigate, particularly when dealing with complicated nests of folders and files. Longtime Mac users know that there’s one way to see a persistent map of your current location in Finder — that is, by enabling the Path Bar — but there’s also another, hidden method that some users may prefer. Enable the Finder Path Bar First, for those unfamiliar with Finder, the easiest way to see your current location in your Mac’s file structure is to enable the Path Bar in Finder’s view options. To do so, simply open a Finder window and go to View - Show Path Bar in the OS X menu bar. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Option-Command-P to quickly enable or disable the Finder Path Bar. There’s a hidden Terminal command that lets you display the full path in that title bar instead of simply the active folder (very similar to how Apple now treats website addresses in Safari). To enable it, launch Terminal and enter the following command (note: this command involves relaunching Finder, so while you won’t lose any data, all of your open Finder windows will be closed, so make sure you take note of your current Finder locations if you’re actively working on a file-focused project): defaults write com.apple.finder _FXShowPosixPathInTitle -bool true; killall Finder www.nodearts.com
