'Particle' robots: The bio-inspired bots that move with no brain
Researchers have built a robot made up of individual ‘particles’ that moves with no centralised control. The bots rely on the same kind of statistical mechanics that allows groups of cells to move, creating some intriguing possibilities. Find out more in this Nature Video. GENIUS HACKS FOR ANY SITUATION These life hacks and tricks are gonna be unexpectedly helpful in numerous life situations. If you often use eyewear you'll like these hacks. If your glasses often fogging up, I advise you to rub some plain soap into the glasses and then wipe it up with a napkin as usual. When your eyeglasses keep slipping down, take two rubber bands, tie them round the temples of the glasses. That's it, no more slipping down! If you're just trying to pick up a new pair of glasses or buying eyewear for the first time, don't forget to take the table test. Simply put the eyeglasses right on the table and then carefully look at the glasses' temple tips, whether they both reach the table surface or not. If not, it means the temple tips are of different length! It may cause a lot of discomfort while wearing them. In case you have high myopia of −6.00 diopters or more and accidentally lost your eyewear on the working desk. Grab your phone, turn on the camera and zoom in on the table surface until you see your glasses. Another nasty problem every four-eyed probably faced - scratches on the lenses. Put some toothpaste on the lens and rub it in. Did you know how handy plastic bags can be? You can use them as a smartphone case to protect your gadget from the damp and sand when you take it to the beach with you. You can cook an awesome puffy omelet using plastic bag as well! Robots for Physical Interaction
"Robots for Physical Interaction" While robots dominate repetitive labor tasks in factories, the design and controller of these robots are not suitable for relatively complex tasks that humans easily do. These tasks typically require intricate interaction force control on impacts and rich physical interactions such as walking, grinding and manipulating non-rigid objects. Conventional robots are not built to control force or be flexible to perform like human arms. The talk will discuss how the new design paradigm allows such dynamic interactive force control with environments. Demonstrating the effect of using employing robot design paradigm, the latest version of cheetah robot and force feedback teleoperation arms will be presented. This new class of robots will play a crucial role in future robot applications such as elderly care, home service, delivery and services in environments unfavorable for humans. Sangbae Kim, PhD, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sangbae Kim is the director of the Biomimetic Robotics Laboratory and an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His research focuses on the bio-inspired robot design by extracting principles from animals. Kim's achievements on bio-inspired robot development include the world's first directional adhesive inspired by gecko lizards, and a climbing robot, Stickybot, that utilizes the directional adhesives to climb smooth surfaces featured in TIME's best inventions in 2006. A recent achievement includes the development of the MIT Cheetah capable of stable outdoor running up to 13mph and autonomous jumping over an obstacles at an efficiency of animals. This achievement was covered by more than 300 media articles. He is a recipient of best paper award from the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (2007), King-Sun Fu Memorial Transactions on Robotics (2008) and IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics (2016), DARPA Young Faculty Award (2013), NSF CAREER award (2014) and Ruth and Joel Spira Award for Distinguished Teaching (2015). https://mae.osu.edu/events/2018/09/seminar-robots-physical-interaction

Build a Real Robot Episode 10 Project Recap
In this installment of the Build a REAL Robot series, I give a summary of what has been wired up and what new components are going to be installed in the future. Article at https://dbot.ws/rbt010 More articles at https://dronebotworkshop.com Join the newsletter at https://dbot.ws/dbnews Took a bit of a break last week so there hasn’t been a lot to report. However, one thing I do need to let you know about is a wiring error in last week's episode! In the motor controller wiring, I have shown you VCC (+5-volts) connected to the VIN pin on the Arduino Nanos. That is wrong, it needs to be connected to the 5V pin. I’ve updated the text and images in the article, my apologies for the error and my thanks to the viewers who pointed it out. Of course, I rewired my controller for the correct power pin. And I have also made the cables I need for the motor controller and have hooked it all up. I also wired a USB jack onto the side of the robot to power up the Arduino Mega. I explain why I did it this way in the video. Next time I hope to have some motor controller code for us to look at. Until then I hope you enjoy the video.

Fanuc M-2000iA/1200 https://www.fanuc.eu/at/en/robots/robot-filter-page/m-2000-series/m-2000ia-1200 When the Fanuc robot was built it put its predecessor, the KUKA Titan to shame. Kuka’s was able to handle a payload of 1,000kg, which is pretty insane in its own right, but Fanuc is bigger and better than Kuka in almost every way. Not only is it the world’s largest six-axis, but it’s also able to handle the largest payload ever, up to 1,200kg. Now that’s a ton of power and means that this particular robot hold two very impressive records. We’re sure that this record will be aced in due time, as robotics the robotics industry keeps coming out with improvements, but that doesn’t make the Fanuc any less impressive. 5. Wave Glider https://www.liquid-robotics.com/wave-glider/how-it-works/ The Wave Glider is an amazing machine and is a really cool concept to boot. It was built to glide along the surface of the ocean, skimming the waves. It is eventually supposed to handle a range of tasks and the team that built the glider is confident that it has plenty of amazing applications. To begin with, it will help us monitor our oceans and it’s ridiculously effective at covering vast distances without missing a beat. The trip that first gained it notoriety also earned the craft a world record for the longest trip by an unmanned autonomous surface vehicle. In total, the Wave Glider effortlessly travelled a distance of 14,703km. It was able to achieve this feat by using solar power to maintain its systems, along with the movement of the waves around it to generate propulsion. This combination allows the Wave Glider to remain operational for long periods of time and the distances it covers are equally impressive. 4. Kirobo https://www.toyota-europe.com/world-of-toyota/articles-news-events/introducing-kirobo-mini Kirobo is another robot that managed to set not one, but two world records when it was first put into action. It’s a humanoid companion robot and its arrival onboard the International Space Station marked the first time a companion robot was launched into space as well as the first robot to have a conversation in space. It’s also seen as the winner of the companion robot’s ‘highest altitude conversation’ prize, but we think space takes priority here and ‘highest altitude’ is just a technicality anyway considering the fact that the conversation happened while the robot was in orbit. 3. CES 2019: Sophia the Robot is back, and she brought Little Sophia
Sophia was a hit back at CES 2018, and for her return to CES 2019, she brought along her smaller doppelgänger Little Sophia. But, as we saw in both of their conversations with Ashley Esqueda, there's still some work to be done before Sophia is going to appear to be seamlessly human. Will Robots Make Us More Human?
Watch my newest video, "The Demonetization Game": https://youtu.be/kOnEEeHZp94 Alquist: ...all the workers in the world will be out of a job. Domin: Yes, they will be, Alquist. They will be, Miss Glory. But in ten years’ time Rossum’s Universal Robots will be making so much wheat, so much material, so much of everything that nothing will cost anything. Everyone will be able to just take as much as he needs. Nobody will live in poverty. They won’t have jobs, that’s true, but that’s because there won’t be any jobs to do. Everything will be done by living machines. People will do only the things they want to do, they can live their lives just so that they can make themselves perfect. -R.U.R. by Karel Capek (1920) *** Sources & Links *** BOOKS Working by Studs Terkel http://goo.gl/ZoAqnr Science And Technology In World History by James E. Build a REAL Robot - Episode 4 - Selecting Wheels
In Part 4 of the Build a REAL Robot series I will discuss selecting and installing wheels for your robot project. I will also show you the wheels that I used on my DB1 robot. Article with part numbers - https://dbot.ws/rbt004 More articles and tutorials at https://dronebotworkshop.com Join the newsletter - https://dbot.ws/dbnews Today we will talk about wheels, and while it might not seem like the most thrilling subject, selecting the correct wheels for your robot is an important task. I will go over some of the considerations that you’ll need to take into account when choosing wheels for your robotic project. I will also show you some of the different types of wheels that you can use. My DB1 robot uses two types of wheels. On the front there are the traditional standard wheels, these are powered by the motors that we looked at in the last video. The rear wheels are a special type of wheel called Omni Wheels. Actually, each rear wheel consists of two Omni wheels, mounted in a “staggered” pattern for improved performance. Omni wheels open up a lot of different wheel configuration possibilities. I will show you which one I chose (the most boring one I’m afraid), as well as other mounting arrangements you might consider. The article that accompanies this video, which you can read at https://dbot.ws/rbt004, gives you more details about the mounting of both types of wheels on DB1, along with part numbers and links to the components I used. Hope you enjoy the video! Next week I’ll be working on the base unit electronics and power distribution, so please subscribe to the YouTube channel so you don’t miss out on anything.

Facebook A.I. Robots shut down after creating their own language |Artificial Intelligence |#facebook
Facebook has shut down two artificial intelligences that appeared to be chatting to each other in a strange language only they understood. The two chatbots came to create their own changes to English that made it easier for them to work – but which remained mysterious to the humans that supposedly look after them. The bizarre discussions came as Facebook challenged its chatbots to try and negotiate with each other over a trade, attempting to swap hats, balls and books, each of which were given a certain value. But they quickly broke down as the robots appeared to chant at each other in a language that they each understood but which appears mostly incomprehensible to humans. The robots had been instructed to work out how to negotiate between themselves, and improve their bartering as they went along. The actual negotiations appear very odd, and don't look especially useful: Bob: i can i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to Bob: you i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alice: balls have a ball to me to me to me to me to me to me to me Bob: i i can i i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alice: balls have a ball to me to me to me to me to me to me to me Bob: i . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to Bob: you i i i i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alice: balls have 0 to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to Bob: you i i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to But there appear to be some rules to the speech. The way the chatbots keep stressing their own name appears to a part of their negotiations, not simply a glitch in the way the messages are read out. Indeed, some of the negotiations that were carried out in this bizarre language even ended up successfully concluding their negotiations, while conducting them entirely in the bizarre language. Build a Real Robot - Episode 1 - Project Introduction
Today I will introduce you to the “DB1”, a “Real Robot” project that is built with components that you can easily obtain. You can build the exact same robot or use these videos and articles to create one of your own design. Article at https://dbot.ws/rbt001 More articles and projects at https://dronebotworkshop.com Keep informed! Sign up for my newsletter at https://dbot.ws/dbnews This is the first video in a series of videos that will outline the design, construction, programming, and testing of a “real robot”. Unlike the small “robot car” chassis that I have used in many other videos, this is a full-sized robot that, when finished, will have some impressive capabilities. I’m calling this robot “DB1”, as it’s the first of a series of intelligent, full-sized robots that I’m planning to construct. I’m sure we can come up with a better name for it as it evolves! The robot is being designed and built in sections or “layers”, and each layer is capable of acting independently. So if you only want to build the base (navigation) layer, for example, you can build it and run it by itself. This is a BIG project, actually a HUGE project, and it will take several months to finish it. I’ll be documenting my progress every Thursday here on YouTube and in an accompanying article on the DroneBot Workshop website at https://dronebotworkshop.com. For those of you interested in building a similar or identical robot I will have information soon about getting detailed plans. I hope you enjoy the video and I look forward to hearing your comments and seeing you every Thursday for a new installment of this series!

10 REAL Robots That Stole People's Jobs
top 10 robotic machines that have stolen jobs from people Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like 10 Mythical Creatures That Actually Existed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M3063KYYr4 10 Cute Kids Who Grew Up To Be Monsters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5y9OPpEKnY Description: Don’t look now, but the scary, dystopian themes of a futuristic robot takeover might be slowly playing out in front of our very eyes. As we grow increasingly reliant upon technology, automation and even robotics have taken on a more significant and present role in our everyday lives. Our phones recognize our voices and talk back to us, our cars can remember trips that we’ve previously taken and our computers customize information to better suit our needs. Automation has taken over for human employment in so many ways, as we order lunch from a touch screen, buy groceries at a self-checkout machine and do our banking at an ATM or online. Robotic technology in the workforce isn’t simply here to stay, but boasts a growing presence. Observers at the forefront of technological development have predicted that humans will end up using robots for a wider variety of tasks that will only grow in complexity as their capabilities continue to advance and their skill set expands to even include responsibilities that demand creativity and recognizing human emotions. If you’re thinking about robots in a Hollywood cinematic sense, think of this new reality as less of a Terminator-style doom and gloom scenario and more of a WALL-E type of gentle, opportunistic takeover. According to a 2015 report by the Bank of England, robotic machines are poised to take over 80 million American jobs and 15 million British jobs over the course of the next 10 to 20 years. That would represent 50% of the workforce in each of the two countries. Through this scenario, the Bank believes that administrative, clerical and production workers will be the first roles to be wiped out by the rise of automation as humans adapt their skills to fulfill duties that can’t yet be handled by robots. While the Industrial Revolution forced manual laborers to improve their skills to take on more sophisticated, complex jobs, this new era of mechanized development would see the robots use their advanced programming to just replace their human counterparts. While the report may seem dramatic and shocking, particularly given its two decade or less timetable, it becomes less so when you realize that we are already well into the predicted rise of the machine. In various sectors of employment, jobs are already being done effectively and efficiently by mechanisms possessing artificial intelligence. From multi-billion dollar corporations like Amazon to technology companies like iRobot to even the United Stated military, robotic technology is being looked to as an increasingly viable, cost-effective means of skilled labor as opposed to using a human workforce. It’s an amazing time that we currently live in, even if we don’t quite realize it yet. Over the past decade or two, technology has evolved at such a remarkable rate that we have come to expect regular new innovations and technological developments to hit the market in rapid succession. Now, we hardly bat an eye if confronted by, say, a prescription-filling robot pharmacist or even a Jeopardy-playing IBM computer named Watson. This might well already be a robot’s world, and we’re just living in it. The Robotic Future of Elderly Care | Thomas Bock | TEDxTUM
Everything in our lives is becoming smarter and more robotic. Why not use our technological advancements to aid the elderly so they can live independent and self-fulfilled lives? Thomas was inspired by life support systems used for astronauts and wanted to translate the same concept to elderly care. His goal is to create environments for elderly people, assisted by inventions like mechatronic furniture, in which they feel comfortable, useful, and can make their daily lives easier. Prof. Thomas Bock has a multidisciplinary background having studied architecture, civil engineering and robotics. He is an expert in construction robotics who combines automation, robotics and mechatronics into the built environment to solve future demographic and societal challenges with emphasis on making life easier for the elderly by designing different life support systems. His motivation to assist one of the vulnerable section of the society is very inspiring. He also has a vast international and multicultural experience having worked in different countries like European countries, Iran, North and Central America, Japan, South Korea, China and Russia. He is a pioneer of several new ideas in construction robotics and continues to author several related articles and books. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Is There a Service Robot in Your Future?: Teresa Escrig at TEDxTacoma
Teresa Escrig is the founder and CEO of Cognitive Robots. A PhD in Computer Science, Dr. Escrig has been a professor at the University Jaume I, in Castellon, Spain, for 19 years, and the Head of the research group "Cognition for Robotics Research" for over 10 years. She was a visiting professor at the University of Washington in 2009-2010 and is currently an associate visiting professor at the University of Washington, Tacoma. She is the author of 3 technical books, more than 90 research articles, and numerous awards, including a National Prize on Science and Technology, 2004. When she finished her PhD in the field of Artificial Intelligence, in 1997, Dr. Escrig had the vision that the cognitive theoretical models, that she had developed for her PhD thesis, was a much better option for bringing intelligence to robots. From vision to product, she has led the development of the product "Cognitive Brain for Service Robotics ®", that allows any vehicle to be transformed into an autonomous robot. Dr. Escrig is a renaissance researcher, visionary, out of the box thinker, and a passionate and effective leader. She is a natural seeker of different paths to solutions that defy the status quo. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

The Robots Rebellion - David Icke (1994) - Full Video
The Robots Rebellion - David Icke (1994) We live in a world which is increasingly dominated by revolutionary new technology but, according to author and lecturer, David Icke, it is WE who are the robots. Icke reveals the alarming extent to which people of all nations have allowed themselves to be programmed by the ideas fed to them by those in power. Fearlessly, he tears down the veils of hypocrisy, built up for generations by the corrupt forces of Church, State, science and commerce - and reveals the true pathos of the human condition beneath. He points, too, to the frightening influence wielded throughout the planet by a merciless and manipulative network of secret societies. The existence of long-established links between Earth-bound humanity and beings from other dimensions and planets in the Universe has been suppressed for years, says Icke, by the world's power-broking hierarchy. When ordinary people learn the real role they have to play within a rich and varied cosmic society, rebellion against those who have kept this extraordinary truth from them will, he predicts, be inevitable. Hidebound politicians, bankers, economists, educationalists, scientists and the leaders of the world's established religions are not going to welcome Icke's challenging book. But it is not intended for those who wield and abuse power. This book is for the world's unwilling robots who, says Icke, in an upbeat conclusion, have it within themselves to rise up - and take control of their own exciting destiny. Virginia Tech: DARPA Robotics Challenge
A Virginia Tech-based robotics team, Team THOR, recently advanced in a two-year DARPA Robotics Challenge. The group is an international team of academic and private roboticists headed by Dennis Hong of the Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory, or RoMeLa for short. Team THOR must design and build a new, semi-autonomous robot that will be tasked with driving a jeep-like vehicle, and then exiting the vehicle, walking over rubble, clearing objects blocking a door, and entering a building. The robot then must locate and shut off a leaking valve, install a hose, and climb an industrial ladder. Finally, it must use a power tool and break through a concrete wall. The Future of Humanity - with Yuval Noah Harari
Dr Yuval Noah Harari explains how revolutions in technology and society will transform our bodies and minds. Watch the Q&A here: https://youtu.be/Lt7votAzI78 Subscribe for regular science videos: http://bit.ly/RiSubscRibe Buy Yuval Noah Harari's "Homo Deus" - https://geni.us/mdi6e Throughout history there were many revolutions: in technology, in economics, in society, in politics. But one thing always remained constant: humanity itself. We still have the same bodies, the same brains, and the same minds as our ancestors in ancient China or in the Stone Age. Our tools and institutions are very different from those of Confucius’s time, but the deep structures of the human body and mind remain the same. However, the next big revolution of history will change that. In the twenty-first century, there will again be many revolutions in technology, in economics, in politics. But for the first time in history, humanity itself will also undergo a radical revolution. Not only our society and economy, but our bodies and minds will be transformed by new technologies such as genetic engineering, nanotechnology and brain-computer interfaces. Homo Deus will shock you. It will entertain you. Above all, it will make you think in ways you had not thought before – Daniel Kahneman, author of Thinking, Fast and Slow Dr Yuval Noah Harari has a PhD in History from the University of Oxford and now lectures at the Department of History, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specialising in World History. 'Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind', published in 2014, was on the Sunday Times bestseller list for over six months in paperback, was a New York Times top ten bestseller and has been published in nearly 40 languages worldwide. Paper art projects for kids What are the easiest toys you can DIY? And what about decor items? And school projects? That is right: the simplest crafts are made from an ordinary paper. Why? Simple because everyone has it at home. But it doesn't mean that paper is boring. Art projects made of paper are actually lots of fun. Try to make them yourself - we will give you some cool ideas in this video to boost your imagination. 1. Paper Sponge Bob Have you ever seen a Sponge Bob cartoon. If yes, you definitely like this clumsy and funny little guy who makes burgers. We have an awesome tutorial how to make a paper Sponge Bob (01:27). You will only need yellow and brown colored paper, some glue and a pair of scissors. A little trick here - you can make colored paper yourself. Just paint paper using water paint or simple markers. Cut out a big yellow rectangle and glue it to the brown paper pants. Draw the face features and attach paper hands and legs. Well done! You can hang your paper Sponge Bob on the wall. Now turn on a fan - can you see the magic? Right, he moves his hand and legs. 2. 3D paper toy for kids Paper is rather a weak material for toys: it is easy to break and it cannot withstand even a drop of water. However, it is just perfect for intellectual games for preschoolers! Time to follow our easy tutorial. You may find the template here (03:44). You will need one big stripe of paper and some rhombuses of three different colors. Just glue them together on the order you see in the video. It is pretty easy and quick to make, but in the end, you will get a cool sophisticated infinity toy. You may spin it in any direction, and the colors of the toy will change. Isn't it awesome? Make several toys of different colors of your choice and present them to your friends. They will love the gift! Or I have an even better idea! Make your own toys together - it is a wonderful craft to make with your family and friends. Watch the video till the end to learn how to make gorgeous DIY paper gift bags in no time at all 🎁😉 Timestamps: 00:54 Cool moving paper fish 04:25 Lovely DIY paper bookmarks 05:52 Gorgeous paper roses 08:53 Giant snowflake from a paper lunch bag 12:34 Sweet heart card made from paper ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to 5-Minute MAGIC: http://bit.ly/2ldditZ 5-Minute Crafts: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5min.crafts/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5.min.crafts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/5m_crafts Subscribe to 5-Minute Crafts GIRLY: https://goo.gl/fWbJqz Subscribe to 5-Minute Workouts: https://goo.gl/67owiQ The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

Elegoo Smart Robot Car Part 3 - Collision Avoidance & Line Following
Smart Robot Car Kit from Elegoo - https://www.elegoo.com/product/arduinocarv3-0/ Full article at https://dbot.ws/robcar3 More projects and tutorials at https://dronebotworkshop.com Stay Informed! Join the DroneBotWorkshop Newsletter at https://dbot.ws/dbnews In the third and final installment of my series on the Elegoo Smart Robot Car, I will show you how to use the Collision Avoidance and Line Tracking capabilities of this Arduino-based robot car kit. You don’t need to own the Elegoo car to perform these experiments as they will work with any Arduino-based design that uses the same compomnents. Nonetheless, the Elegoo car is a very good buy and makes an excellent kit for both beginners and experienced Arduino enthusiasts. The robot car uses both an HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor and an SG90 servo motor to perform obstacle avoidance. The sensor is mounted on the servo motor shaft and scans the room to determine which of three directions has the longest path to an obstacle. It then moves the car in that direction. The line tracking (or line following) capabilities make use of a sensor mounted underneath the robot car. The sensor consists of three optical source/sensor arrays that can detect the presence or absence of a bloiack line. Elegoo even provides a roll of black electrical tape for you to create a lined track, which I demonstrate in this video. I’ll go over the sketches used to make all the magic happen, including a few changes I made to customize my robot car, you may want to make similar modifications. Here is the table of contents for this video: Collision Avoidance Operation - 2:30 Servo Test - 4:39 Collision Avoidance Sketch - 8:17 Collision Avoidance Demo - 17:27 Line Following Operation - 19:05 Line Following Sketch - 23:28 If you missed the other two parts of this video series you can find them here: Part 1 - Building the Smart Robot Car - https://youtu.be/xTILIkExKZo Part 2 - Bluetooth and Infrared Remote Controls - https://youtu.be/DD8sYXKe268 As always you will find a detailed article that accompanies this video on the DroneBot Workshop website at https://dbot.ws/robcar3. Build a REAL Robot - Episode 7 - Motor Test
This is episode seven of an ongoing series about building a REAL robot. In today's installment, I'll be powering up the motors and testing them out. Accompanying article at https://dbot.ws/rbt007 Full series at https://dronebotworkshop.com/build-a-real-robot/ Today is a big day, my robot DB1 is finally going to get moving! I’ll show you a few wiring enhancements I made since we last got together. I’ve hooked up the power connector, corrected a potentially deadly wiring error (yikes!) and connected the Cytron motor drivers to the power distribution board. I also hooked up the motors themselves and then I ran the built-in test on the motor drivers to make sure everything was working. After that, I temporarily wired up the Arduino Mega 2560 to use as a source of PWM to test the motors out. I loaded up a simple sketch and DB1 went through the motions! It wasn’t a perfect test run, the robot seems to have a weight problem - it doesn’t have enough weight on the front! I repeated the test with some weight on the front of the robot and that pressed the wheels down enough to make the traction a lot better. The test than ran successfully. If you are also building a similar robot you can find the sketch that I used in the article on the DroneBot Workshop website at https://dbot.ws/rbt/007. I also describe how I hooked up the Arduino to the motor controllers in the article. If you’re just joining the project and would like to catch up you’ll find a playlist at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWNDWPAClRVqZITmi-J-7E9XSZd2aqqBh. You can read all of the articles at https://dronebotworkshop.com/build-a-real-robot/. The best way to stay informed about the DB1 robot project is to subscribe to the YouTube channel. And speaking of subscribing, please subscribe to my newsletter as well, I'll be giving you extra robot information in it. The newsletter is also the ONLY way to suggest new article and video content that you would like to see me create. You can join at https://dbot.ws/dbnews. Thanks for watching!
