How To Avoid 3 Common Legal Mistakes Small Business Owners Make
Disclaimer: This video and accompanying content (blog, Youtube descriptions, etc. herein referred to as "Content") is for informational purposes only and should not be construed as legal advice of any kind. Jo-Ná Williams and J.A.Williams Law, P.C. assumes no liability for use or interpretation of any information contain in this Episode or this document. This Episode should not be an alternative to obtaining legal advice from a licensed attorney in your state based on the specific facts of your legal matter. Jo-Ná Williams is licensed to practice law in the State of New York only. C'mon over to http://www.marieforleo.com/2014/05/small-business-legal-help/ where the main discussion happens after the episode! Legal help can be confusing if you run a small business, but in this video you'll learn about three common legal mistakes small business owners make -- and how to avoid them. 1. Business Structure. Should your business be an LLC or S Corp? Get legal help from a lawyer about what option is best for your business, since they can help you figure out what will be best for your taxes as well. Many people think that a lawyer is going to cost a lot of money, but most people would rather pay for solving a problem than preventing one. 2. Protect Yourself And Your Offerings. It's very important your terms are outlined in something written. Make sure that your contracts have protection for your IP, disclosure of your programs and content, clear terms as to refunds and how to terminate the contract. It's also important to make sure your contracts have disclaimers in them. It's important to have what you are in the contract but even more importantly what you're NOT. Legal help from an attorney will show you exactly what your contracts and terms should include. 3. Your Business Relationships. An independent contractor's agreement serves as additional proof that you have this arrangement with the people working for you. In this type of agreement, you should outline their duties, how they are being paid and when. A non-disclosure clause protects your confidential information, and explains the fact that they're an independent contractor and not an employee. And a final bonus tip: If you are in the U.S. and you pay an independent contractor over $600, you're going to have to issue them a 1099. Make sure you have their W-9 form when they come on-board so you don't have to try and get it from them later! Secrets to grow a small business without spending money

Get 82% OFF for Web Hosting and FREE Domain included! https://www.hostinger.com/techlead Also check out the site we built for TechLead: Season 1 HD Complete at http://techleadpro.com All too often, we focus too much on the product we're building, without thinking about the marketing problem. But it turns out that marketing is one of the larger (if not the largest) challenge in starting a business. What if, when considering a business opportunity, we were to focus more on the challenge of gaining customers, rather than the challenge of the product? A business may have hundreds of products, half of which will fail, and most of which will be discontinued within a few years. For many businesses, it is not about the product, but about the brand marketing power that generates revenue allowing re-investment into improving a mediocre product over time until it becomes good. Many excellent products fail, and many bad products succeed. Don't underestimate marketing, make it part of your business plan. What are your top tips? business finance 101, business finance definition, basics, and best practices
business finance 101, business finance definition, basics, and best practices. Business finance is the funding we need for commercial purposes. Put simply, it is the money business people require to start, run, or expand a business. If you already have the money you use it. However, if you don’t there are several options. Investment finance, which we also call equity finance, means selling part of your business. You can do this by selling shares to an investor. However, bear in mind that you will lose some control. If the investor buys shares, he or she will also receive a share of the profits your business makes. We call firms or individuals that make their living by providing business finance venture capitalists. Crowdfunding is becoming an increasingly popular way of getting business finance. We also call it crowd-source capital or crowd financing. In most cases today, people use the Internet for crowdfunding. The aim is to get as many small investors as possible. There are websites dedicated to crowdfunding. Some people prefer to borrow the money in the form of a loan and repay over an agreed period. With a loan, you do not lose your independence. Furthermore, you still retain your stake in the business. People usually get business loans from banks. However, community development finance institutions and other businesses also offer loans. In fact, many successful businesses began with loans from friends or relatives. In a typical loan arrangement, the borrower has to pay back the capital plus interest. The capital in this context means the original amount.

7 Best Practices that Small Businesses Can Follow to Leverage on Facebook's Timeline
7 Best Practices that Small Businesses Can Follow to Leverage on Facebook's Timeline http://blackboxsocialmedia.com/7-best-practices-that-small-businesses-can-follow-to-leverage-on-facebooks-timeline/ After Facebook automatically converted business fan pages to Timeline design, many are having a hard time adapting to such a change. If you are one of those who aren't happy with the shift, it is important that you do not waste your time complaining. After all, Timeline is here to stay and you won't be able to do anything about it except to take advantage of what it has to offer. You may not know it, but Facebook Timeline actually brings more branding opportunity for your business. It doesn't matter if you only have little budget allotted for your social media marketing because you can have your own share of your target market for free over at Facebook. Below are some useful practices you can follow to make a buzz for your business using the features and tools available on Timeline? Images count, so take the time to snap photos Timeline is more visual than the earlier version of Facebook pages, and this is the perfect opportunity for you to get your camera or your Smartphone to work for you. Take your fans behind the scenes by snapping photos of the things that relate to your business that they may not know of and post them on your wall. This will show your fans how your business works from the inside and it is also a human-centric approach to build awareness about your brand. Make a lasting first impression with your cover and profile photos In a new eye-tracking study, it has been found that most consumers pay more attention to a brand's cover photo than any other posts on the wall. This goes to show that since your cover photo is the first thing that people get to see when they visit your page, you need to channel your creative juices and make a high resolution cover photo that captures the real essence of your brand to make an excellent first impression. Change the cover photo as often as you like, but make sure that you do not tout promotions, contact details, pricing discounts and purchasing information as all these are against Facebook's guidelines. Of course, do not forget the traditional profile photo that is situated in the lower left hand corner of your cover photo. This is the perfect spot where you can place your company's logo. Such a thumbnail image will define your brand since it will accompany all the comments and posts you make. Pin or Highlight key information like you would on your cork board Timeline may seem like all things chronological, but this isn't actually the case. You can now draw more attention to one of your posts by highlighting it. Simply choose the star icon on the right corner at the top of any of your post and this will automatically be updated across the width of your page. Meanwhile, if you would like to extend the life of your post for seven more days, you can do so by pinning it. For example, if you have a contest going on and your post about it is being pushed back by newer posts, simply hover to the right corner of that post and choose the "Pin to Top" option, underneath the pencil icon. When you do pin a post, it becomes larger and it becomes the first item in your Timeline, staying there for a week. Give due credit to your business's milestones Functioning like a scrapbook, though in a digital format, Timeline is the most ideal platform to tell your business's story. Hence, in order to let your fans know the most important events in your business, take the time to compile a list of the key days of your enterprise such as when it was established and product launches just to name a few. Don't forget to include photos. Milestones make it possible for consumers to know more about your business accomplishments and they are a great feature to subtly market your product or service. Organize and customize your applications Just below your cover photo are the applications that get more visibility compared to your posts. You can organize these applications to make your page less cluttered and you can even take advantage of other custom-built apps on Facebook to customize your page. Take cue from your insights Analytics wise, Facebook provides you with all the help you need to track the metrics around your content. By carefully analyzing the trends on the way how users engage with your posts, you will better understand which ones generate more attention and if your efforts are yielding better results. So, take advantage of the insights wisely to improve your content.... -- Tags: "facebook timeline", "best business practice", "small business", facebook, "timeline for facebook", "Black Box Social Media", "facebook timeline cover tips", "facebook timeline tips", "internet marketing tips", marketing, tips, "Facebook brand pages", "Facebook timeline page video", "facebook timeline for business pages", "Facebook marketing", "Facebook (Website)"

Best Practices for Small Businesses
One of the biggest concerns that small business start-ups and sole proprietors have is protecting themselves from potential liabilities. Sometimes forming an LLC is the answer. But it’s not the only answer. Sometimes I end up telling the clients that if it is a choice of spending money on organizing as a Corporation or LLC, or buying liability insurance, I’ll tell them they’re better off spending that money on a liability insurance policy. After we figure out the best way to organize your business, the next step may be to develop contracts for dealing with customers and vendors. It's never one size fits all. It's about getting to know the client and then bringing in our expertise to help find the right solution for that client’s needs.

Petty Cash Controls Best Practices on Preventing Small Business Fraud
Need bookkeeping and tax preparation help? Email us: [email protected] or Visit our new website: http://fas-accountingsolutions.com ~~~ Petty Cash Controls Best Practices on Preventing Small Business Fraud Petty Cash is a small amount of cash on hand that is used for paying small expenses during the day-to-day operations. It is a misconception to think that this insignificant amount won’t affect your business. To prevent petty cash frauds, the following internal control procedures should be in place: 1. There should be segregation of duties in disbursing and approving the petty cash fund. It is important that the person who approves petty cash is not the petty cash custodian to prevent unauthorized disbursements. 2. Petty cash is strictly for business-related expense. 3. Proper documentation is needed. A Petty Cash Voucher (PCV) should be used for each payment signed by an authorized officer. The PCV should be pre-numbered and in chronological order. 4. All transactions should be recorded in the petty cash journal at the time it has occurred. These transactions should be accompanied by supporting documents. 5. Keep it in a locked petty cash box. 6. Reconcile the petty cash fund by examining the amount of cash and receipts with the corresponding PCV. The total of these two should match the establish petty cash fund recorded in the books. If discrepancies occur, perform a thorough investigation to account. For example, look for missing receipts and undocumented transactions.
