Should your business be an LLC or S Corp? Get legal help from a lawyer about what option is best for your business, since they can help you figure out what will be best for your taxes as well. Many people think that a lawyer is going to cost a lot of money, but most people would rather pay for solving a problem than preventing one. 2. Protect Yourself And Your Offerings. It's very important your terms are outlined in something written. Make sure that your contracts have protection for your IP, disclosure of your programs and content, clear terms as to refunds and how to terminate the contract. It's also important to make sure your contracts have disclaimers in them. It's important to have what you are in the contract but even more importantly what you're NOT. Legal help from an attorney will show you exactly what your contracts and terms should include. 3. Your Business Relationships. An independent contractor's agreement serves as additional proof that you have this arrangement with the people working for you. In this type of agreement, you should outline their duties, how they are being paid and when. A non-disclosure clause protects your confidential information, and explains the fact that they're an independent contractor and not an employee. And a final bonus tip: If you are in the U.S. and you pay an independent contractor over $600, you're going to have to issue them a 1099. Make sure you have their W-9 form when they come on-board so you don't have to try and get it from them later! If you are one of those who aren't happy with the shift, it is important that you do not waste your time complaining. After all, Timeline is here to stay and you won't be able to do anything about it except to take advantage of what it has to offer. You may not know it, but Facebook Timeline actually brings more branding opportunity for your business. It doesn't matter if you only have little budget allotted for your social media marketing because you can have your own share of your target market for free over at Facebook. Below are some useful practices you can follow to make a buzz for your business using the features and tools available on Timeline? Images count, so take the time to snap photos Timeline is more visual than the earlier version of Facebook pages, and this is the perfect opportunity for you to get your camera or your Smartphone to work for you. Take your fans behind the scenes by snapping photos of the things that relate to your business that they may not know of and post them on your wall. This will show your fans how your business works from the inside and it is also a human-centric approach to build awareness about your brand. Make a lasting first impression with your cover and profile photos In a new eye-tracking study, it has been found that most consumers pay more attention to a brand's cover photo than any other posts on the wall. This goes to show that since your cover photo is the first thing that people get to see when they visit your page, you need to channel your creative juices and make a high resolution cover photo that captures the real essence of your brand to make an excellent first impression. Change the cover photo as often as you like, but make sure that you do not tout promotions, contact details, pricing discounts and purchasing information as all these are against Facebook's guidelines. Of course, do not forget the traditional profile photo that is situated in the lower left hand corner of your cover photo. This is the perfect spot where you can place your company's logo. Such a thumbnail image will define your brand since it will accompany all the comments and posts you make. Pin or Highlight key information like you would on your cork board Timeline may seem like all things chronological, but this isn't actually the case. You can now draw more attention to one of your posts by highlighting it. Simply choose the star icon on the right corner at the top of any of your post and this will automatically be updated across the width of your page. Meanwhile, if you would like to extend the life of your post for seven more days, you can do so by pinning it. For example, if you have a contest going on and your post about it is being pushed back by newer posts, simply hover to the right corner of that post and choose the "Pin to Top" option, underneath the pencil icon. When you do pin a post, it becomes larger and it becomes the first item in your Timeline, staying there for a week. Give due credit to your business's milestones Functioning like a scrapbook, though in a digital format, Timeline is the most ideal platform to tell your business's story. Hence, in order to let your fans know the most important events in your business, take the time to compile a list of the key days of your enterprise such as when it was established and product launches just to name a few. Don't forget to include photos. Milestones make it possible for consumers to know more about your business accomplishments and they are a great feature to subtly market your product or service. Organize and customize your applications Just below your cover photo are the applications that get more visibility compared to your posts. You can organize these applications to make your page less cluttered and you can even take advantage of other custom-built apps on Facebook to customize your page. Take cue from your insights Analytics wise, Facebook provides you with all the help you need to track the metrics around your content. By carefully analyzing the trends on the way how users engage with your posts, you will better understand which ones generate more attention and if your efforts are yielding better results. It is a misconception to think that this insignificant amount won’t affect your business. To prevent petty cash frauds, the following internal control procedures should be in place: 1. There should be segregation of duties in disbursing and approving the petty cash fund. It is important that the person who approves petty cash is not the petty cash custodian to prevent unauthorized disbursements. 2. Petty cash is strictly for business-related expense. 3. Proper documentation is needed. A Petty Cash Voucher (PCV) should be used for each payment signed by an authorized officer. The PCV should be pre-numbered and in chronological order. 4. All transactions should be recorded in the petty cash journal at the time it has occurred. These transactions should be accompanied by supporting documents. 5. Keep it in a locked petty cash box. 6. Reconcile the petty cash fund by examining the amount of cash and receipts with the corresponding PCV. The total of these two should match the establish petty cash fund recorded in the books. If discrepancies occur, perform a thorough investigation to account. For example, look for missing receipts and undocumented transactions.
