http://www.distantlands.com WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO EXCHANGE MONEY IN EUROPE? How many people endlessly scour airfare comparison and hotel booking sites looking for the best deal, then waste all that effort by paying huge fees to exchange money abroad. Once you leave the country, how you pay for things can impact the cost of your trip. What is the best option? Keep watching and we will explore all your currency conversion options while traveling in Europe. But first, don't forget to like, subscribe and comment. EXCHANGING CASH Avoid or minimize cash exchange. Fees can range from about 8% at banks to up to 15% at airport currency exchange booths. If you need to exchange cash, look for places that don't charge a commission. Hold onto your cash for emergencies. If you want cash before leaving the U.S., you may be able to order currency through your bank, or through a website. Rates in the U.S. are usually less favorable than abroad, though, so only get what you need for a day or two. Cash is best for: Emergencies. PRO: You'll almost always find someone who will exchange cash. CON: You will not get a great conversion rate. DEBIT AND ATM CARDS Use these at cash machines (ATM's) to withdraw local cash. Use bank ATM machines. Your rate will be as good as or better than a bank teller. Minimize ATM usage fees by withdrawing as much as you can each time you visit the ATM (and keep the extra cash in your money belt!). AVOID generic ATMs or foreign exchange machines, often found at airport arrival halls, which charge high fees and offer really bad exchange rates. Debit & ATM cards are best for: Getting cash in local currency. PRO: You get the great interbank exchange rate, and ATMs are widely available in cities throughout Europe. CON: Each withdrawal you make will be subject to various fees, so withdraw larger amounts less frequently than you would at home. Debit cards are usually not accepted for car rentals without additional cost and paperwork. PRO TIP: AVOID DYNAMIC CURRENCY CONVERSION. If a merchant asks you if you would like to make your transaction in your home currency instead of local currency, say NO. ALWAYS get your transaction in the local currency or you will pay a huge fee. CREDIT CARDS Credit cards are best for large purchases such as airline or train tickets, hotel bills and car rentals. Generally, paying by credit card gives you a better rate than withdrawing or exchanging cash...as long as you clear your balance each month. The interest you pay on that balance will add to your trip costs. Read your credit card agreement carefully; a foreign currency conversion fee of about 1% is standard. If you can, consider applying for a credit card that doesn't charge foreign currency fees before you travel. However, avoid using your credit card to withdraw cash from ATMs. This is a cash advance, and you will be charged fees and interest immediately. PRO: By using a credit card for most expenses, you can carry less cash. You can also dispute erroneous transactions. And, many credit cards offer points or rewards. CON: Many, if not most credit cards have hidden surcharges for foreign exchange transactions. Look for cards that are travel-friendly. PRO TIP: The Chase Mileage Explorer Card (for United frequent fliers) and the Chase Sapphire card have no international transaction fees. TRAVELER'S CHECKS AND MONEY CARDS While mostly obsolete, traveler's checks provide more security than cash because they can be replaced if lost or stolen. These days, Visa and Travelex offer travel cards that are prepaid like traveler's checks, but work like debit cards for purchases and ATM withdrawals. CON: The exchange rate for traveler's checks is not as favorable as the interbank rate you get when using a credit or debit card, and very few merchants accept them for purchase these days. You'll incur commissions, shipping charges and/or conversion fees to purchase AND cash the checks. The prepaid cards have plenty of fees, too--activations fees, reloading fees, ATM charges, and even inactivity fees. In most cases you're better off using your own debit card. When to Exchange Money for Your Trip Abroad
Ever wonder when you should get your foreign currency for your trip abroad? Well here we talk about when you should get your foreign currency. And your best bet is to get it when you go abroad. You will get a better exchange rate for that currency in the country versus getting it before you go. Make sure you use your home local bank ATM debit card and take money out of ATMs abroad. On average that will give you the best exchange rate. Also, do not go for the automatic conversions to your local currencies that some ATMs offer. Most likely you would get a better exchange rate from your local bank instead. Filmed in Kilkenney, Ireland Copyright Mark Wolters 2017 ps. Thanks Len for the question on twitter! Learn French money
How to use the word Money or Argent in French and in context of a day to day life, when you need money to pay, to buy etc, money all its forms. Learn how to use your money. Learning French is easy with Pascal. https://www.frenchspanishonline.com/magazine/largent-money-in-french/
Let's talk money in today's episode! In particular exchanging currencies and withdrawing cash abroad without the massive fees! It is a good idea to exchange a small amount of cash before you leave so you have some funds for taxi’s or a cheeky coffee at the airport. But don’t take too much cash, only enough to cover your first couple of days. Don’t carry anymore than you are willing to lose! Using ATM machines abroad can vary. Some countries will have next to zero ATM machines which will accept foreign cards, like Japan, which is why it’s good to have cash on you till you find somewhere to withdraw. Taking a travel card is a good idea which is where you pre-load money onto the card and spend it in different locations across the world. Some Travel Cards may freeze the exchange rate or have it flexible so you get the best exchange rate when you spend! Using your home bank card is a popular option but can incur some hefty fee’s. Here are some tips: If you need to withdraw cash then don’t take out $50 at a time. Cover yourself for a few days and try not to use EFTPOS machines! --------------------- Important stuff --------------------- Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/psychotraveller DON'T FORGET TO BECOME A LITTLE PSYCHO: http://goo.gl/GnWOIt --------------------- Social media is sexy --------------------- Facebook: http://goo.gl/K0u8pa Twitter: http://goo.gl/FsbWJR Pinterest: http://goo.gl/qgRD4v Instagram: http://goo.gl/abzups SnapChat: @PsychoTraveller My blog: http://goo.gl/5zP0dG Business email: psychotraveller22 at gmail dot com --------------------- What I Film My Videos With --------------------- GoPro Hero 4 Silver: http://goo.gl/9AE4Yu Sony A5100: http://goo.gl/Fo1DDY --------------------- Some Sexy Stuff Right Here!! --------------------- Get $30 off your first stay on Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com.au/c/aford34?s=8 Get $10 off GoPro accessories with the code “PsychoTraveller” here: http://www.sandmarc.com/ (Above are affiliate codes/links which mean if you sign up/buy a product, at no extra cost to you, I make a little bit of money to help me maintain my channel and blog!)

French unions lead protests against economic reforms | Money Talks
Thousands of people in France are returning to the streets to protest against President Emmanuel Macron's economic policies. Students, workers and pensioners have been rallying across the country against what they believe is the destruction of the social model. A recent poll says only 29% of voters support Macron, after a string of high-level resignations and a political scandal. Oliver Whitfield-Miocic reports from Paris. The president went on the counter-offensive this week with the launch of his "grand national debate", spending hours in rural France debating with disgruntled mayors. Paper money of the French Revolution - Assignat
The French Revolution of 1789 marks a key event in history. It was also a monetary revolution and stands for a tragic failure of paper money. The system of the Assignats (paper money of the revolution) that was based on national confiscation of private land was nothing but a historic "dry cough" that ended in no time. The average citizen in France had no vote in the case but no choice either. Bad money always drives good money out of circulation. Shown in this video is a series Assignats issued between 1791 and 1795. These are originals of the time in average condition, with little market value; as assignats were printed and distributed in mass. I collect them and like to frame them for display, for original decoration of our home; the fate of all paper money (sooner or later).

Carrying Cash While you Travel: WHAT ARE THE LIMITS?
Call us: 416-962-2623 / 1•866•760•2623 (Toll Free in Canada/US) Email Us: [email protected] www.immigroup.com http://www.immigroup.com/news/carrying-cash-you-travel-what-are-limits Many Canadians, at certain stages in life, contemplate living abroad. Maybe you are already doing so. Though it is getting easier and easier to access your money electronically from anywhere in the world, it is still important to know how much cash you can bring with you. This is especially true if you are planning on living in a country which doesn't have the most up-to-date technology, or not enough ATMs. It's also especially true if you fear the consequences of the ceaseless move from paper currency to electronic payments. Either way, you need to know how to bring cash on your travels. This article will tell you: What you have to declare How to Declare What happens if you don't declare Why are these rules in place If you are exiting Canada with more than CAN$10,000 - or if you are returning home with the same amount - then you need to declare it. For the purposes of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), this money must be declared or if it is the form of "monetary instruments." Monetary instruments include: coins; currency; travellers' cheques; 'bearer negotiable instruments' (promissory notes, bills of exchange, treasury bills, bank notes, cheques); 'bearer investment securities' including bank notes, bonds, debentures; stocks; forwards, futures, stock options, swaps; bank drafts money orders and any similar 'instruments'. Electronic transfers of any kind of more than $10,000 are reported by your financial institution to the government of Canada in order to comply with the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act, so you only have to worry about reporting the above yourself. Bringing cash and monetary instruments to or from the United States. The United States has the equivalent rule as Canada: currency and monetary instruments being moved into or out of the country valued at more than USD$10,000 must be declared. Since the US and Canadian dollars are rarely the same. Mexico Mexico uses the same standard as the United States: if you are carrying or shipping anything above the equivalent of USD$10,000 you must declare it. Cuba If you are travelling to Cuba for tourism or business purposes, you can bring in up to $2,000 Cuban Pesods, without having to declare it. There are strict rules about bringing money out of Cuba: You cannot take Cuban Convertible Pesos out of Cuba at all, and you can only take out up to $2,000 Cuban Pesos. (However, banks outside of Cuba cannot sell Cuban Pesos so they will not exchange your money.) The United Kingdom You have to declare any cash you are bringing into the UK - on your person or shipping separately - in excess of €10,000. Please note that you cannot use your family members to increase your personal limit; the limit applies to individuals and to families. In the UK, cash means: currency and coins; bankers' drafts; cheques of all types. France The limit is the same across the EU, so the limit for France is the same as the UK: 10,000 euros. However, in France, the limit is tallied per-adult, so you could theoretically bring in more than 10,000 euros undeclared if you are travelling with another adult. (We do not recommend this.) The Dominican Republic You must declare the cash you are bringing into the Dominican Republic, but there is no limit on how much you can bring in. You may be forced to convert a minimum of USD$100 to Dominican Pesos upon arrival, though this rule is rarely enforced. When you are leaving, you can only bring out the same or less than what you declared and brought in, provided it is under USD$10,000. You are not allowed to bring out more than USD$10,000. You cannot import or import or export Dominican Pesos, however, so all money must be in another currency. If you have Dominican Pesos left over and you have failed to convert them prior to departure, you can get about 30% of the value back at the airport before departing. China Upon entering China you must declare any cash in excess of the equivalent of USD$5,000, or 20,000 Yuan, but you can bring in an unlimited amount. You cannot normally bring out more than you brought in, without a permit. Further, if you are bringing out between USD$5,000 and $10,000 you will require a permit. If you are bringing out more than USD$10,000 you will require a special "warrant" from the State Administration of Foreign Exchange. The warrant may cap you at USD$50,000. Italy As with the EU countries above, you must declare any money you are bringing into Italy above 10,000 euros. Germany As with the EU countries above, you must declare any money you are bringing into Germany over 10,000 euros. Bahamas You can bring as much or as little foreign cash with you to the Bahamas and take it out again. However, you are not allowed to exit with more than B$200, as the currency is restricted.

What The Brexit Means For Tourists Exchanging Money
The Brexit has sent the U.K.'s currency tumbling, and people who are traveling may already see some effects. There are reports banks and hotels briefly suspended currency exchanges involving the pound while they scrambled to figure out exchange rates. The pound dipped to its lowest value against the dollar in over 30 years after the vote. That means exchanging pounds now will get you less than it would have before the referendum. The pound was worth about $1.50 U.S. before the vote, and it dropped to about $1.32 by Friday morning — the steepest one-day drop in the history of the pound. So what does this mean for travelers? Well, it's all kind of speculative right now, but it depends on whether you want to travel to the U.K. or travel out of the U.K. Travel might get a lot more expensive for British citizens because of the fall in the value of the currency and the ripple effect it'll have on taxes and other costs. But for Americans, now could be a good time to take a trip across the pond. We already make up about 10 percent of tourists in Britain, and the exchange rate looks a lot better than it used to ... for now, anyway. The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of The World by Niall Ferguson Epsd 1 5 Full Documentary
Professor Niall Ferguson examines the origins of the pillars of the world's financial system, and how behind every great historical phenomenon -- empires and republics, wars and revolutions -- there lies a financial secret. Episode 1: Dreams of Avarice. From Shylock's pound of flesh to the loan sharks of Glasgow, from the 'promises to pay' on Babylonian clay tablets to the Medici banking system, Professor Ferguson explains the origins of credit and debt and why credit networks are indispensable to any civilization. Episode 2: Human Bondage. How did finance become the realm of the masters of the universe? Through the rise of the bond market in Renaissance Italy. With the advent of bonds, war finance was transformed and spread to north-west Europe and across the Atlantic. It was the bond market that made the Rothschilds the richest and most powerful family of the 19th century. And today governments are asking it to bail them out. Episode 3: Blowing Bubbles. Why do stock markets produce bubbles and busts? Professor Ferguson goes back to the origins of the joint stock company in Amsterdam and Paris. He draws telling parallels between the current stock market crash and the 18th-century Mississippi Bubble of Scottish financier John Law and the 2001 Enron bankruptcy. He shows why humans have a herd instinct when it comes to investment, and why no one can accurately predict when the bulls might stampede. Episode 4: Risky Business. Life is a risky business -- which is why people take out insurance. But faced with an unexpected disaster, the state has to step in. Professor Ferguson travels to post-Katrina New Orleans to ask why the free market can't provide adequate protection against catastrophe. His quest for an answer takes him to the origins of modern insurance in the early 19th century and to the birth of the welfare state in post-war Japan. Episode 5: Safe As Houses. It sounded so simple: give state-owned assets to the people. After all, what better foundation for a property-owning democracy than a campaign of privatisation encompassing housing? An economic theory says that markets can't function without mortgages, because it's only by borrowing against their assets that entrepreneurs can get their businesses off the ground. But what if mortgages are bundled together and sold off to the highest bidder? Episode 6: Chimerica. Since the 1990s, once risky markets in Asia, Latin America and eastern Europe have become better investments than the UK or US stock market. The explanation is the rise of 'Chimerica', the economic marriage of China and the United States. But does it make sense for poor Chinese savers to lend to rich American spenders? http://www.RebelMystic.com
