Truncating Large (Huge) SQL Database Logs in SQL 2012. ** THIS SHOULD ONLY be done is you are okay loosing data should your data disk go bad. Not recommended for high-integrity data. ** Recommended for a temporary queue system. First change recovery model to In Enterprise Manager, right click on the db Properties ===＞ Option ==＞ Recovery change: Full ==＞ Simple Then run the following: DBCC SHRINKFILE( DATABASEName_log, TRUNCATEONLY) The nice thing about this method is that it goes extremely fast; the operations are sub-second, as compared to backup operations which take very long. This is helpful when taking on urgent out of disk space issues.

Step 1 - (BACKUP) Copy all the original database (.EDB) and log (.Log E00) files to safe location. Then also copy them into a working directory. Eseutil will modify the files in situ so if anything goes wrong you can get the unmodified database back. Backup following files (*.edb, *.stm and Exx*.log where xx is a number relating to the information store) Step 2 - Run Command prompt (As Admnistrator) Then Go to Following path C:\Cd "c:\Program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin" Step 3 - Now Check the database state and expected log files with follwoing Command E:\Program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\ eseutil /mh "c:\Program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox Database 2015010923\Mailbox Database 2015010923.edb" Step 3 - Now Repair the database state and expected log files with follwoing Command C:\Program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\ eseutil /p "c:\Program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox Database 2015010923\Mailbox Database 2015010923.edb" Step 5 - It should fix the issue if doesn't then - 1) Restart the server 2) Move Logs files (E00) to different location from "c:\program files\Microsoft\exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 2015010923"

It happens often enough in the SMB space that this quick video how to was warranted. SharePoint uses SQL Server. SQL Server has databases. Those databases have log files. Those logfiles can get quite big if not properly maintained or if backup software doesn't do its job to inform SQL that the logfiles can be truncated (shrunk) after a successful backup has been performed, when a database is set to use the "Full" recovery type. This short video shows how to change the database recovery type, shrink the database and then put it back the way it was... Hope it helps someone out there. Sean www.itgroove.net

Lab 2: Configuring Mailbox Servers Scenario You must configure the executive’s database so that the mailbox does not send or receive messages after the mailbox size reaches 1,024 MB. Additionally, you should ensure that a warning is sent to users if their mailbox reaches 850 MB. The main tasks for this exercise are: 1. Create a new database for the Executive mailboxes. 2. Configure the Executive mailbox database with appropriate limits. 3. Move the existing Accounting database to a new location. ► Task 1: Create a new database for the Executive mailboxes 1. On VAN-EX1, open the Exchange Management Console. 2. Create a new database named Executive on VAN-EX1. 3. Store database files in C:\Mailbox\Executive. 4. Store log files in C:\Mailbox\Executive.

Managing Exchange Server 2016 servers Exchange shell commands used in video: 1)Get-MailboxDatabase 2)Move-DatabasePath –Identity “MB1” –EdbFilePath E:\DB1\DB1.edb –LogFolderPath G:\Logs\DB1 3)Set-MailboxDatabase –identity MB2 –DeletedItemRetention 20.00:00:00 –CircularLoggingEnabled $true –4)ProhibitSendQuota 2.2GB Dismount-Database –identity MB2 Mount-Database –identity MB2 Exercise details: Creating and configuring mailbox databases Scenario Currently, the Mailbox server has no locally attached storage for the mailbox database. You have available iSCSI storage for the mailbox databases and logs. These drives will be sufficient for the initial deployment at A. Datum, but the organization expects to add several additional iSCSI drives during the deployment. You need to configure Windows Server 2016 to connect to the iSCSI drives, and configure storage for the mailbox databases and logs. You need to modify the location and configuration of the default mailbox database to meet the corporate standards. The database should have a warning limit set to 0.9 gigabytes (GB), prohibit send at 1.0 GB, and prohibit send and receive at 2.2 GB. In addition to the default mailbox database, you also need to create a new mailbox database to meet the deployment requirements. You should place the new mailbox database on the iSCSI drive and enable circular logging. You also need to set different limits and retention time periods from the default database. The main tasks for this exercise are as follows: 1. Configure iSCSI storage for the Mailbox server. 2. Configure mailbox settings for an existing database. 3. Create and configure additional mailbox databases.
