Watch the video to find out how this came about! Many people always wonder about the golden grasshopper on top of the Royal Exchange. The royal exchange was founded by Sir Thomas Gresham in order that merchants would have a place to do their business. In this video Joolz explains about this grasshopper and also the emblems outside the buildings on Lombard Street. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Tower of London to Wapping - London's Best Riverside Walk" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZs1kkqWwU8 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

La Llotja de la Seda (The Silk Exchange), Valencia, Spain
Video of this pretty building in Valencia. Wiki says it's "a late Valencian Gothic style civil building in Valencia, Spain, built between 1482 and 1548, and one of the principal tourist attractions in the city. The UNESCO considered it as a World Heritage Site in 1996 since "the site is of outstanding universal value as it is a wholly exceptional example of a secular building in late Gothic style, which dramatically illustrates the power and wealth of one of the great Mediterranean mercantile cities."

Ghost Caught In Underground Manchester city!
The stages also connected with public toilets that used to be in front of the cathedral. While now disused and closed to the public in 1967, Manchester Central Library maps demonstrate their proximity to the landing stages on the river, and both stage and toilets are accessible from one another. Explorers have accessed the landing stages and documented their current condition, including taking photographs. There was an underground entrance to the stages from the premises of Thomas Cook & Son, which stood on the corner of Victoria Bridge. Evidence of the building was reportedly found inside one of the stages in the form of fire-damaged timber purlins, albeit in very poor condition. It has been suggested that the landing stages might be reopened to the public as a tourist attraction. The arches are visible from the three surrounding bridges, and from the northwest shore of the river. They are all bricked up, some with small ventilation apertures left in place. Milan The Changing City | 4K drone footage of Milano Skyline in Italy
Cinematic 4k footage of the evolving architectural panorama of the City of Milan, Italy. Milan, a metropolis in Italy's northern Lombardy region, is a global capital of fashion and design. Home to the national stock exchange, it’s a financial hub also known for its high-end restaurants and shops. The Gothic Duomo di Milano (Duomo of Milan) cathedral and the Santa Maria delle Grazie convent, housing Leonardo da Vinci’s mural “The Last Supper,” testify to centuries of art and culture. The famous Galleria shopping center has been the baseline for so many malls across the World. The video also features the Gae Aulenti Plaza with the iconic Unicredit Tower and the Vertical Forest building. On the other side of town you can see the Generali Tower, part of the CityLife complex, designed by the late Zaha Hadid. Also featured is the Castello Sforzesco or Sforza Castle as well as La Scala theater, the World's most famous venue. Milan, the capital of Lombardy, has a population of 1.3 million people. It is the biggest industrial city of Italy with many different industrial sectors. It is a magnetic point for designers, artists, photographers and models. Milan has an ancient city centre with high and interesting buildings and palazzos, which is why so many people from all over the world want to see the city of glamour. Milan's climate is predominantly Mediterranean: Alpine in the far north; hot and dry in the south. Winter in Milan is relatively mild but foggy, with temperatures ranging from zero to 8 degrees Celsius. Summer can be very humid with brief thunderstorms; temperatures range from 14 to 29 degrees. From March through April temperatures range from 6 to 18 degrees. From October through November they range from 6 to 17 degrees. Milan’s origin goes back to 400 B.C., when Gauls settled and defeated the Etruscans. In 222 B.C. the city was conquered by Romans and was annexed to the Roman Empire. After 313 A.D., the year of the Edict of Tolerance towards Christianity, many churches were built and the first bishop was appointed: Ambrogio was such an influential person that the church became the Ambrosian Church (7 December is a holiday to honour Sant’Ambrogio). In 1300 the Visconti family which are noblemen from Bergamo, Cremona, Piacenza, Brescia and Parma ruled and brought a period of glory and wealth to the city. The Duomo was built in 1386 and became the symbol of Milan. The Sforza family assumed the Castle and the power of the Visconti family and finally Milan achieved peace after many years of war against Venice and Florence. Under the Sforza duchy the city began the development of sciences, art and literature. Ludovico il Moro (Ludovico Sforza) called Leonardo da Vinci and “il Bramante” to his court. #milan #milano #drone -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- More Original Cinematic Videos: "Passo dello Stelvio | World's greatest roads" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuT5HaEpQJY Share, Support, Subscribe!!! Quick Tips Vietnam - Visa, Currency, SIM Cards, and Other Travel Tips
Travel tips for traveling to Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi in Vietnam: 1. Visa - go to the link below to apply for a Visa online. For the photo you need to get an actual TWO copies taken at a store like CVS/Costco HOWEVER tell them not to cut it because the photo required for the Visa is a different size from a passport. Check out the Visa approval letter for instructions. https://www.myvietnamvisa.com 2. Immigration - for either Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi airports head towards immigration but before you get in line there's a separate area to get your actual Visa. Remember you only have an approval letter and not a Visa. You will need to give them your passport, letter and fee to be paid in US Dollars (the amount should be in your email or letter). Once you get your Visa head towards immigration as usual. 3. SIM cards - if your phone doesn't seem to work then I suggest you get a SIM card, granted your phone is unlocked. There are a lot of booths everywhere selling these. I got unlimited data for about a week for $9 USD. Other quick tip, bring a small paperclip with you so you can switch the SIM card back later for when you leave Vietnam. 4. Currency - you will need to exchange for local currency. I recommend using ATMs instead of the currency exchange for better rates. If there are multiple ATMs check out the fee for each before withdrawing. 5. How to get around - if you can't walk somewhere Uber was available at both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. 6. Where to stay - stay near night market. Check out below. Ho Chi Minh - I stayed at Majestic Saigon - was about 15 min walk to night market http://majesticsaigon.com Hanoi - I stayed at Emerald Waters - location, quality, and service was great. Within the old quarter and within walking distance of shops and street food. http://www.hanoiemeraldwatershotel.com 7. Crossing the streets - look both ways, be careful, be confident, and just go for it! 8. Be mindful of travel times - streets are very congested and a lot of traffic so make sure to allot extra travel time. 9. Street food and night market - see below. Note Hanoi night market is only Friday-Sunday but there are tons of street food all over the city either way. Ho Chi Minh - Ben Thanh market was where I went. Lots of shops and street food. Try the grilled seafood! https://goo.gl/maps/GezKMRL14vo Hanoi - I didn't go to the night market but just walk around the Old Quarter near St. Joseph's cathedral below on Nha Chung street. https://goo.gl/maps/g5mp3mXQi622 10. Halong Bay - there are a lot of tours available and I booked through Viator. Personally I think one night was enough on a cruise. I booked on V'Spirit Overnight Halong Bay Cruise. Note that while food is included in the cost, drinks are NOT, and this includes water and tea. **Airport Lounge Tips Ho Chi Minh - Priority Pass lounge is available at the international terminal. After security make a left and head towards gate 10-14. You will see an unassuming sliding door next to a small pop-up shop that will lead stairs. Head downstairs. It's called the Orchid Lounge. I did not check out the lounge in the domestic terminal but it looks like there's one. Hanoi - there are no lounges available for Priority Pass or Amex. ******************************** This video was shot on a GoPro Hero 6 Black Follow me on Instagram to stay up to date on my adventures: https://www.instagram.com/rhanzpants/

Exchange Sixteen: Capital City Circuit; Berlin
Berlin = absolutely insane. First learned about Berlin in my Contemp Europe history class last semester in Brantford. I was blown away by all of the history in Berlin. Being physically in Berlin was extremely overwhelming. Being able to cross the Berlin wall, where 25 years ago it was impossible, and learning the stories of many Jewish individuals who were killed by Hitler was moving. I loved Berlin, and I will return one day.

Occupy London Stock Exchange - Photography By Milan - Day one 15.10.2011
http://www.photographybymilan.co.uk Occupy London is an ongoing peaceful protest[4] and demonstration against economic inequality, the lack of affordability of housing in the United Kingdom, social injustice, corporate greed and the influence of companies and lobbyists on government taking place in London, United Kingdom, which started on 15 October 2011. The protests began in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York, United States. In October protesters established two encampments in central London: one outside St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London and the other in Finsbury Square just to the north of the City.[1] In November a third major site was opened in a disused office complex owned by UBS. Named by protesters as the Bank of Ideas, the site is located in Hackney.A fourth site was established in late December, at the unused premises of Old Street Magistrates Court in east London. The Occupy London protests are backed by the tax avoidance protest group UK Uncut.

The Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago). The Cathedral | Documentary Part 5
The Way of Saint James (Camino de Santiago) is the perfect mix of touristic-sports adventure and religious sentiment. This documentary shows all of the story from the origins until today. ▶ SUBSCRIBE! http://bit.ly/PlanetDoc Full Documentaries every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday! ▶ Documentary "Way of Saint James (Camino de Santiago)" http://pdoc.es/WayStJamesPL The discovery of the sepulcher of the Apostle Santiago, in the first third of the IX century, compelled many Christians to make pilgrimages to Compostela to worship his relics. This required the construction of a church. This building, besides guarding and honoring the relics of the Apostle and his disciples Teodoro and Atanasio, had to take in a greater number of pilgrims coming from the Peninsular kingdoms, as well as from the rest of Europe. The purpose of its builders was not only to construct the most perfect church dedicated to the cult of the pilgrims; they wanted to make Compostela a religious and artistic reference for the world, like Rome and Jerusalem. These are the beginnings of a fascinating story, a fabulous saga spanning centuries carried out by thousands of people united in their devotion to the figure of the Apostle Santiago, in a remote corner of Finisterre. They called it Compostela: the field of stars. The present state of the Santiago Cathedral is the result of numerous changes, projects, works, remodeling; in short, an evolving and impassioned architectural and artistic creation developed throughout many centuries. The Cathedral: fifth part of the documentary The way of ST. James (Camino de Santiago). The Temple of stars. Even though an increasing number of pilgrims came to worship Santiago’s relics, both the Compostelan diocese as well as the Jacobean belief and practice needed new drives. With the purpose of consolidating his plans as an Apostolic See, Pope Calixtus II, in 1120, raised Diego Gelmírez to the rank of Archbishop, thus raising the metropolitan dignity of Santiago’s church above Merida’s. He then launched the writings of texts that spread and consolidated Jacobean tradition. And thus the Codex Calixtinus was born. The original manuscript is still conserved in the Santiago Cathedral. These are the moments of greatest splendor for the Jacobean cult. Thousands upon thousands of pilgrims from all over Europe head for Compostela to worship the Saint. The Way of St. James undoubtedly transcends its religious function and becomes a torrent for cultural and economic exchange and development between the lands of northern Spain and the rest of Europe. Diego Gelmírez had achieved all of his goals: the construction of the cathedral was well on its way and it was a benchmark for European Romanesque art; its diocese had metropolitan dignity; and Santiago, thanks to its new constructions and to its support of culture, was seen as an open and prosperous city. Finishing the cathedral was taking longer than expected because of a lack of resources and its vast complexity. It was early in the year 1168 thirty years had passed since the death of Gelmírez and King Fernando II, upon witnessing the unfinished building, entrusted Master Mateo with the conclusion of the cathedral. One of the greatest difficulties the builders faced was the slope of the ground between the apse and the western end. To solve this problem and finish off the naves, Mateo decided to build a crypt that would help level the ground and serve to support the structure of a new and innovative portico one that would introduce the new Gothic style in the temple. The Pórtico de la Gloria is one of the most beautiful works of the Compostelan temple. It constitutes the atrium of the cathedral and is structured on three vanes that coincide with the naves of the church. It is presided upon by the seated statue of the Apostle Santiago, who, from his mullion, or central arch column, welcomes the pilgrims. Once Master Mateo finished off the western façade and built the majestic stone choir which today can be seen in the cathedral museum the building was finished. And finally, on April 21 1211, Archbishop Pedro Muñiz, in the presence of King Alfonso IX, consecrated the Romanesque cathedral of Santiago. ▶ SUBSCRIBE | http://bit.ly/PlanetDoc ▶ FULL DOCUMENTARIES | http://bit.ly/Full-Docs ▶ HISTORY DOCUMENTARIES | http://bit.ly/PlHistory ▶ FACEBOOK | http://bit.ly/FBPDoc ▶ TWITTER | http://bit.ly/TwPDoc ▶ TUMBLR | http://bit.ly/TbPlDoc

Yakima Exchange 2002
The Calgary Highlanders are an Army Reserve infantry unit in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Since 1952, the Highlanders have conducted an annual social exchange with their National Guard counterparts the 1/161st Infantry, alternating each Labour Day weekend between Calgary and Spokane, Washington. It took 50 years before the two units were able to conduct some actual military training together. That happened 5-7 April 2002 and included a 12-mile forced march. Later that year they marked the 50th anniversary of their friendship with a formal celebration at Spokane's newly-renovated Davenport Hotel. More combined training and socializing have continued since then. As well, the soldiers of the 161st deployed twice to Iraq, and many of the Highlanders to Afghanistan.

Hello to my friends & family, This week it snowed, and I thought it would be warmer in Germany, well...I thought wrong. I show you guys my school cafeteria, and a school trip to the city of Cologne which while sunny was still cold. The cold didn't ruin my mood though, and I thoroughly enjoyed just sitting by the river. Cheers, Yushi

Santa María de León Cathedral, Spain
Santa María de León Cathedral, also called The House of Light is situated in the city of León in north-western Spain. It was built on the site of previous Roman baths of the 2nd century which, 800 years later, king Ordoño II converted into a palace. The León Cathedral, dedicated to Santa María de la Regla, was declared of Cultural Interest in 1844. It is known as the Pulchra Leonina and is a masterpiece of the Gothic style dominating the mid-13th century, by master architect Enrique. By the late 16th century it was virtually completed. The main façade has two towers. The southern tower is known as the 'clock tower'. The interior represents a combination of architecture, painting, sculpture and other arts. It has three portals decorated with sculptures situated in the pointed arches between the two towers. The central section has a large rose window. Particularly outstanding is the image of the Virgin Blanca and the Locus Appellatione, where justice was imparted. Its almost 1,800 square meters of stained glass windows are one the main touristic attractions of the cathedral. The great majority of them are original, which is a rarity, and date from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century. They are among the world's finest stained glass works. The Cathedral is also one of the three most important Cathedrals on The Way of Saint James (or in Spanish, El Camino de Santiago). Along with The Burgos Cathedral and the Cathedral in Santiago De Compostela, it is visited a lot and it is a holy worshipping place, and very sacred to the people of its city. It is one of the things that makes Leon so famous, and one of the main stops on the camino. QUESTIONS? We would like to hear from you!
