This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. Domino's Pizza: Greatest Turnaround in Recent Business History

Today, we’re going to look at the history of Domino's Pizza and look at how they turned around their fortunes by realising that their product wasn’t just pizza, it was delivering pizza. Domino's Pizza have undergone one of the greatest turnarounds in recent business history. In under a decade, they have gone from being a punchline about quality, with a share price below $10, to being the second largest pizza company in the world and a darling of the stock market, priced over $150. Domino’s stock has outperformed Google, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon this decade The company started back in 1960 when Tom and James Monaghan bought a pizza shop called DomiNick's. James sold his share within just 8 months since he didn’t want to give up his full time job at the postal service. The shop couldn’t use the original name so they eventually settled on Domino’s Pizza. Their logo used a Domino tile with three dots, representing the three pizza shops they had acquired by the mid-sixties. Before the 70s started, they were already franchising and had grown to over 200 stores by 1978. Over the next few decades they grew steadily, both in the US and overseas so that when Tom Monaghan finally retired in 1998, he sold 93% of the company to Bain Capital Inc for $1 billion. Soon, they moved to take the company public and it went on the stock market in 2004. But by 2009, the shares were down at $8.76 and the public perception was that Domino's made some of the worst tasting fast food in America. Watch the video to learn more. This week Eric Worre gives you 10 Strategies to Become an Event Promotion Machine, and ideas on how you can be a world class promoter. Promotion in network marketing is the number one highest paid skill. The people who can get people to make a decision to go and attend an event, they get paid bigger than anybody else in network marketing… When people go to events, their vision changes, their game plan changes, and their view of the future changes. In this video Eric is discussing event promotion for the promotional partners of the upcoming Recruiting Mastery event, but the concept is the same regardless of the event or company. Strategy #1 is to Promote. As Eric explains, don’t confuse Promotion with Announcements. Most people announce, and announcements don’t create promotion. Make sure people know that you are committed to it also, let them know the value and benefits. For example, “Here’s all the things you’re going to get if you decide to attend this event with us.” Promotion is all inclusive. Strategy #2, promote to your entire team. Talk about what they are going to learn. Talk about the relationships, talk about the fun, adventure, excitement and ideas. Talk about all the benefits they would get by being there. Strategy #3 – Work With Your Leaders. Identify key leaders that are going to be part of your promotional team. Give those people some benefits for promotion and results, such as maybe you have a special dinner or party for those people, or maybe some incentives or some bonus recognition. Use your leaders to create leverage. Get your team involved. Strategy #4 –Prizes or awards. Maybe you could benefit by not just selling tickets, but you could use a few as giveaways, or incentives or bonuses. Maybe you’ve got a leg that needs to be built up in order for you to move to the next level. You can tell the people in your organization that if they achieve XYZ, then you have give them a ticket as a reward, as incentive, as a contest in order to be able to provide an incentive for them to do the task that’s going to reward you not only short term but long term. Strategy #5 – Recognition. Recognize the people who register. Recognize the people who register early. Recognize the people who are on the leadership team. Recognize they’re stepping out and getting outside of their comfort zone. Recognize them on Facebook. Recognize them on email. Recognize them on conference calls. Recognize them however you want to recognize them, but recognition drives behavior, it really, really does. Strategy #6 – Create an Event Within the Event. For example, if you are promoting an event, let them know of a special acticity or party you have planned just for your team. Create a little get together before the event even starts to get them excited and focused. There are lunches, breakfasts, dinners, workouts, or anything you want to do inside of your team. Create some extra things. Strategy #7 - Repetition. Repetition being the idea that you can’t just announce this and you can’t just invite people, you have to promote, which means repeat it over and over and over and over and over again for people to realize that you’re serious about this. Strategy #8 – Host Hotels. Create a host hotel if your event isn’t located in a hotel. Use it as party central. Maybe throw a pool part the day before the event, or have a party in lounge, or appetizers or dinner. Engage in those activities as a team. Use the hotel to help create some excitement. Strategy #9 - No. 9. Corporate or Cross Line. Talk to people that maybe you have good relationship with that are cross line to you, and see if they want a little chunk of your tickets in order to bring part of their team. Also talk to Corporate and see if they want to use tickets as incentives or scholarships. And finally Strategy #10 – Create breakout sessions for your team after the event is over. This will really help your team absorb the materials that were presented and create strategy that everyone can implement so you all are rowing on the same team. https://www.novikos.com Steve Jobs shares his amazingly different approach to marketing and how he used it to build Apple into one of the largest companies in the world. Transcript: To me….marketing is about values. This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today.

P&G Marketing Strategy Until Now P&G marketing strategy until now has always been to stay in the shadows, as per the marketing trends of the time. Unilever Marketing Unilever marketing is similar to P&G marketing strategy in that it has, up until now, not really featured itself in ads for its myriad of brands to its name. This marketing trend is a throwback to a time where groups like Unilever marketing and P&G advertising could get away with not bringing their brand to the forefront for their customers to see and identify with. While Unilever marketing is a mammoth that follows all the newest marketing trends, it does it all through its satellite brands. Marketing Trends that are Redefining Brands P&G marketing strategy has evolved recently from hiding in the shadow of its various brands to coming out and making P&G commercials that actually focus on the P&G brand itself, not the brands that fall under its control. P&G advertising has done a great job of following recent marketing trends by defining itself as a company of morals and values, something that customers can get behind. How P&G Advertising is Redefining Itself Groups like P&G advertising and Unilever marketing are following marketing trends and creating a brand that customers can relate to. In the past, Unilever marketing strategy and P&G marketing strategy would have been fine if they just kept to the shadows, and they did just that. The new marketing trend, however, is driven by the customer and revolves around, you guessed it, the customer. P&G commercials are focused around an emotion that customers want to feel about themselves, and that feeling is goodness. P&G advertising shows mothers, heroes, and the like. These commercials fall right into line with what P&G marketing strategy has become -- making P&G advertising that actually speaks to the customer. P&G Commercials P&G commercials have been received well, especially the ones that aired during the Olympics. This was right in the P&G marketing strategy of revealing the brand to be one of good feelings and uplift. Unilever marketing did similar things with its marketing in revealing a feel-good brand all around.

Today, we’re going to look at the history of Zara, its parent company Inditex, and the fashion industry in general, to see how it became possible to create such a high churn rate in the fashion industry. An average American will throw away 77 pounds of clothing every year. And that’s true across the majority of the western world. That is two suitcases of clothes, just dumped. Zara’s first store opened in 1975, in a city called A Coruna in northern Spain. Owners Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera had wanted to name it after a favorite Greek film called Zorba the Greek, but a bar on their street had already beat them to the punch, so they settled for Zara, since they had already had the letters made for the sign. Inditex was set up in 1985 as holding company for Zara and the manufacturing plants. They went on to set up and take-over many other high-street brands that follow Zara’s format; such as Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius. They now have over 6000 stores globally. Zara’s early business model was to create similar copies to high end lines but at an affordable price. They honor great athletes, and they honor great athletics, that is who they are and that is what they are about, Apple spends a fortune on advertising, you’d never know it, so when I got here Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that you know, four years from now we would pick one and we blew that up and we hired CHIAT/DAY the ad agency I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award-winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 by advertising professional) And we started working about 8 weeks ago and the question we asked was “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it we stand for……..where do we fit in this world?” What we are about isn’t making boxes for people to get their job done, although we do that well, we do that almost better than anybody in some cases, but Apple is about something more than that, Apple at the core, its core value is that we believe people with passion can change the world for better, that is what we believe and we have had the opportunity to work with people like that……………and we believe that in this world people can change it for the better, and THAT THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE CRAZY ENOUGH TO THINK THEY CAN CHANGE THE WORLD FOR THE BETTER ARE THE ONES THAT ACTUALLY DO. The rates of companies that go out of business have changed little over the past 20 years, the SBA says, and are consistent across a range of industries, including manufacturing, retail trade, food services, hotels and construction. Why do small companies fail and go out of business? The fail to generate enough business to stay in business. The average small business owner does not spend enough time and effort on building a competent and sustainable marketing and sales machine. What can we learn from the colossal amount of failure with small business that we can apply to our own business aspirations? In my 30 plus years as a consultant and entrepreneur, and through my exposure to thousands of entrepreneurs via my company, I have seen plenty. And yes, at surface level the primary reason businesses fail is they simply run out of cash. But trust me -- the cracks in the foundation start well before the brutal day of financial collapse. Many entrepreneurs work hard to discover a point of differentiation then blow it because they do not communicate their message in a clear, concise and compelling manner. I watch many entrepreneurs bleed to death through their failure to communicate, market and sell. Fail to accurately achieve product/market fit where money gets made, and you’re sunk. Entrepreneurs can actually have each of the four above reasons solved, but still miss the business model boat. Many companies go out of business purely because the owner failed to promote and market. The “if you build it, they will come” mentality doesn’t work in an age when consumers can choose from among a multiplicity of options. You have to get your message seen and heard. While traditional methods of advertising are still useful, one of the best ways to market your business is with a website. Even in 2016, nearly half (46 percent) of all small businesses do not have one, according to a report from the research firm Clutch. So just by creating a site, which you can do using any number of self-service platforms, you put yourself ahead of many of your competitors. While you’re at it, set up profiles on social networks where your customers gather. Also, start an email newsletter and advertise on Google and Facebook — both of which are inexpensive ways to build a presence online.
