Gangs on the Dark Web: Credit Card Scammers

Credit card fraud has been on the rise for about a decade. In 2016 alone, losses topped $24 billion worldwide, half of which affected cardholders in the US. With a virtually unlimited amount of money to be made scamming, some tech-savvy criminals have turned ripping off credit card numbers into a full-time gig. VICE met up with a scammer for an inside look at the shady underground profession. He walked us through the process, showing us how he buys stolen accounts on the dark web, prints pilfered numbers on blank cards, and buys thousands of dollars worth of goods with stolen money. What does CUSTODIAN BANK mean? CUSTODIAN BANK meaning - CUSTODIAN BANK definition - CUSTODIAN BANK explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A custodian bank, or simply custodian, is a specialized financial institution responsible for safeguarding a firm's or individual's financial assets and is not engaged in "traditional" commercial or consumer/retail banking such as mortgage or personal lending, branch banking, personal accounts, automated teller machines (ATMs) and so forth. The role of a custodian in such a case would be to: - hold in safekeeping assets/securities such as stocks, bonds, commodities such as precious metals and currency (cash), domestic and foreign; - arrange settlement of any purchases and sales and deliveries in/out of such securities and currency; - collect information on and income from such assets (dividends in the case of stocks/equities and coupons (interest payments) in the case of bonds) and administer related tax withholding documents and foreign tax reclamation; - administer voluntary and involuntary corporate actions on securities held such as stock dividends, stock splits, business combinations (mergers), tender offers, bond calls, etc.; - provide information on the securities and their issuers such as annual general meetings and related proxies; maintain currency/cash bank accounts, effect deposits and withdrawals and manage other cash transactions - perform foreign exchange transactions; often perform additional services for particular clients such as mutual funds; examples include fund accounting, administration, legal, compliance and tax support services. Using US definitions, a person who owns street name securities and who is not a member of an exchange, holds the securities through a registration chain which involves one or more custodians. This is due to the perceived impracticality of registering traded securities in the name of each individual holder; instead, the custodian or custodians are registered as the holders and hold the securities in a fiduciary arrangement for the ultimate security holders. However, the ultimate security holders are still the legal owners of the securities. They are not merely beneficiaries of the custodian as a trustee. The custodian does not become at any point the owner of the securities, but is only a part of the registration chain linking the owners to the securities. Global securities safekeeping practices vary substantially with markets such as the UK, Australia and South Africa encouraging designated securities accounts in order to permit shareholder identification by companies. The definition of "shareholder" is generally upheld by corporate law rather than securities law. One role of custodians (which may or may not be enforced by securities regulation) is to facilitate the exercise of share ownership rights, for example and processing dividends and other payments, corporate actions, the proceeds of a stock split or a reverse stock split, the ability to vote in the company's annual general meeting (AGM), information and reports sent from the company and so forth. The extent to which such services are offered are a function of the client agreement together with relevant market rules, regulations and laws.

How ATM Works

04:44
An automated teller machine (ATM) is an electronic telecommunications device that enables the clients of a financial institution to perform financial transactions without the need for a cashier, human clerk or bank teller. On most modern ATMs, the customer is identified by inserting a plastic ATM card with a magnetic stripe or a plastic smart card with a chip that contains a unique card number and some security information such as an expiration date or CVVC (CVV). Authentication is provided by the customer entering a personal identification number (PIN). Using an ATM, customers can access their bank accounts in order to make cash withdrawals, debit card cash advances, and check their account balances as well as purchase pre-paid mobile phone credit. If the currency being withdrawn from the ATM is different from that which the bank account is denominated in (e.g.: Withdrawing Japanese Yen from a bank account containing US Dollars), the money will be converted at an official wholesale exchange rate. Thus, ATMs often provide one of the best possible official exchange rates for foreign travelers, and are also widely used for this purpose. http://engineers-channel.blogspot.com/p/atm.html

What is TREASURY MANAGEMENT? What does TREASURY MANAGEMENT mean?

What does TREASURY MANAGEMENT mean? TREASURY MANAGEMENT meaning - TREASURY MANAGEMENT definition - TREASURY MANAGEMENT explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Treasury management (or treasury operations) includes management of an enterprise's holdings, with the ultimate goal of managing the firm's liquidity and mitigating its operational, financial and reputational risk. Treasury Management includes a firm's collections, disbursements, concentration, investment and funding activities. In larger firms, it may also include trading in bonds, currencies, financial derivatives and the associated financial risk management. Most banks have whole departments devoted to treasury management and supporting their clients' needs in this area. Until recently, large banks had the stronghold on the provision of treasury management products and services. However, smaller banks are increasingly launching and/or expanding their treasury management functions and offerings, because of the market opportunity afforded by the recent economic environment (with banks of all sizes focusing on the clients they serve best), availability of (recently displaced) highly seasoned treasury management professionals, access to industry standard, third-party technology providers' products and services tiered according to the needs of smaller clients, and investment in education and other best practices. A number of independent treasury management systems (TMS) are available, allowing enterprises to conduct treasury management internally. For non-banking entities, the terms Treasury Management and Cash Management are sometimes used interchangeably, while, in fact, the scope of treasury management is larger (and includes funding and investment activities mentioned above). In general, a company's treasury operations comes under the control of the CFO, Vice-President / Director of Finance or Treasurer, and is handled on a day-to-day basis by the organization's treasury staff, controller, or comptroller. In addition the Treasury function may also have a Proprietary Trading desk that conducts trading activities for the bank's own account and capital, an Asset liability management (ALM) desk that manages the risk of interest rate mismatch and liquidity; and a Transfer pricing or Pooling function that prices liquidity for business lines (the liability and asset sales teams) within the bank. Banks may or may not disclose the prices they charge for Treasury Management products, however the Phoenix Hecht Blue Book of Pricing may be a useful source of regional pricing information by product or service. Concerns about systemic risks in Over The Counter (OTC) derivatives markets, led to G20 leaders agreeing to new reforms being rolled out in 2015. This new regulation, states that largely standardized OTC derivative contracts should be traded on electronic exchanges, and cleared centrally by Central Counterparty/Clearing House trades. Trades and their daily valuation should also be reported to authorized Trade Repositories and initial and variation margins should be collected and maintained .

Mobile banking app brings card-less cash withdrawals

03:25
Card-less cash withdrawals have arrived in the UAE. RAKBANK has launched a new mobile app - enabling customers to transfer funds, which can then be taken out of an ATM using just a code. Mobile phones are already used for all sorts of things - from shopping to keeping up on the latest news. But now a new RAKBANK app function is allowing customers to transfer cash to any mobile phone user, who can then withdraw it from a machine using a special code. The number is sent via SMS and gives the beneficiary 24 hours to withdraw the money from a RAKBANK ATM. The bank's mobile application was launched in 2011, and their new MobileCash service was launched two months ago. Rahul Solanki, a designer at an advertising agency in Dubai, is already using the new technology. "Sometimes I forgot my wallet at home and I need money so I use my phone and it's very easy, and sometimes I send money to my wife, so yeah it's very easy," he says. According to market research organisation Euromonitor International, the UAE has one of the highest mobile penetration rates, sitting at 99.1 percent - and that figure is forecasted to rise up to 99.4 percent in the next five years. The mobile app function is being shown off to the media at a news conference. "We think it's something that's a very exciting thing, it's extremely simple to use. I can very simply send money to you just by literally a few clicks on my phone and that money is available for you to go and withdraw immediately from any RAKBANK ATM in the country so I think it's a great function," says Peter England, CEO of RAKBANK. "It's not a world's first, it's been done before, but we're seeing increasingly in other markets around the world that these are becoming very, very popular for services." The bank has over 500,000 customers, and 1,500 of them have already started to use the mobile cash application. "I think once we start to actively promote it I think we'll see major adoption," says England. "One area that I think is quite interesting is in small business for example. One thing about us is that we have our small business offering and our consumer offering on the same app, we don't segregate between the two, and I think in small business where they tend to pay suppliers in cash or maybe receive payments from customers in cash, I think it's something that could be used quite extensively," he continues. Ali Abbas, from Euromonitor International, forecasts that the number of mobile payments in the UAE and Saudi Arabia will rise. In this video I explain what a bank balance sheet is and help you practice calculating the reserve ratio, the required reserves, the excess reserves, and the total change in the money supply. Remember that the total change in the money supply changes depending on if the money is deposited or if it is added via open market operations. It would probably be best to stop reading this and, instead, start practicing bank balance sheets. What's all the Yellen About? Monetary Policy and the Federal Reserve: Crash Course Economics #10

09:25
This week on Crash Course Economics, we're talking about monetary policy. The reality of the world is that the United States (and most of the world's economies) are, to varying degrees, Keynesian. When things go wrong, economically, the central bank of the country intervenes to try aand get things back on track. In the United States, the Federal Reserve is the organization that steps in to use monetary policy to steer the economy. When the Fed, as it's called, does step in, there are a few different tacks it can take. The Fed can change interest rates, or it can change the money supply. This is pretty interesting stuff, and it's what we're getting into today. Crash Course is on Patreon! Statement of Cash Flows: Net Cash from Operations, Investments and Financing

03:51
Brought to you by StratPad: Simple Business Plan App. Try it free at http://www.stratpad.com In this video, we dig into the statement of cash flows and how it measures the ebbs and flows of cash in your company. We'll use an example to help you understand how to arrive at net cash by calculating three components on the statement of cash flows: cash from operations, cash from investing and cash from financing. http://www.stratpad.com/financial-statements-made-easy-video-course/statement-of-cash-flows-net-cash-from-operations-investments-and-financing/ Video Transcript Let's take a couple of minutes to look at the statement of cash flows in greater detail. Then I'll get into an example that brings all this together. The statement of cash flows is broken into three sections: 1. Cash from operations, which you already have seen — it starts off with the cash from net income and then makes adjustments, up or down, related to whether or not customers are paying us this month or they're paying us later. And then adjustments up or down depending on accounts payable, whether we are paying our suppliers this month or whether we are delaying payments to suppliers. 2. Cash from investing. This is investments that the company makes. This is not investments that others make in the company. The company can make investments by buying a building or by buying equipment and those things are then used for the company to generate additional cash. 3. Cash from financing is where we get bank loans and also where outside investors will purchase stock in the company. Here's a quick example with numbers so you can see how this adds and flows. Net income is $5,000 of profit this month; Accounts receivable went up ($4,000), which adversely affects our cash; and Accounts payable also went up ($2,000) and when accounts payable goes up, that improves our cash position. We subtotal this ($5,000 minus $4,000 plus $2,000) is $3,000. We spent $15,000 on a piece of equipment, so that's cash going out. Total cash from investing is minus $15,000. We took a bank loan of $10,000, so that's cash in. We also had a founder put in an additional $25,000 worth of cash. Therefore, cash from financing is $35,000. Then we total each of these three sections ($3,000 minus $15,000 plus $35,000) is $23,000. Cash at the beginning of the period was zero. Therefore, cash at the end is $23,000, with a double-underline to show that we're at the end. I hope you can see that the statement of cash flows tells a pretty clear story of the comings and goings of the cash in the period. It does take a bit of practice though, particularly things like accounts receivable, which seem to be a little counter-intuitive. As you're going through it, just make sure that you're asking yourself the question: is more cash coming in or is more cash coming out? If cash is coming in, then it's a positive value like here ($5,000). If cash is coming out, like when we spend money on equipment, then it's a negative value (minus $15,000). If you stick by that rule of thumb, that will help you get through this. Then, of course, you should just be practicing looking at your statement of cash flows every single month. You're just about to graduate! Just one more video where we bring this all together and then you're done. Way to go.

Use Of Bank Balances Section In The Cash Flow Statement

07:46
http://www.cashflowkungfu.com The Bank Balance section in the Cash Flow Statement is set out differently for review of actual or historical accounts from when it is used for budgeting or strategic planning. With business reviews, this section serves as a check on the accuracy of the financial statements. It is critical to have reliable financial information for business decision making. If there are errors in the accounts, you must find out why. In budgeting or financial forecasts as part of strategic planning, it shows the cash implications of your proposed business strategies. Will additional financing be required to meet your growth strategies? How much and when do you need the financing by?

Soda and soap bottles don’t belong in the sea, but it’s too often where they end up. In fact, experts estimate that an entire garbage truck worth of plastic hits our oceans every minute—the vast majority of it coming from developing nations like Haiti. FIRST-LOOK-Inside-the-FEDERAL-RESERVE,-USD,-CASH,-GOLD-monetary-SYSTEM-Americas-Money-Vault-PART-1

15:01
FIRST LOOK Inside the FEDERAL RESERVE, USD, CASH, GOLD monetary SYSTEM - Americas Money Vault, National Geographic Full Episode PART 1 For the first time, National Geographic takes you inside the heart of the money machine to places that you're not allowed to bring a camera ...straight into the vaults of some of the world's largest stashes of what you want, need and bust your butt to get: Money. Hidden deep under the streets of New York City, hundreds of billion dollars in gold bars are tucked away in a bunker that is anchored to the bedrock of Manhattan Island itself. In the latest in a string of high-profile hacking disclosures, the Federal Reserve confirmed on Wednesday that one of its websites was broken into by cyber hackers in a breach that reportedly leaked the contact information of thousands of bankers. While the central bank said the incident didn't "affect critical operations" of the Federal Reserve System, the disclosure is sure to fuel concerns about the cyber security of government websites and critical financial infrastructure. The Fed hack appears to be tied to an Anonymous group that published on Twitter the credentials of more than 4,000 commercial bankers early Monday morning. The group, Operation Last Resort, said it received the documents "via the FED." Call it the Rick Perry gold rush: The governor wants to bring the state's gold reserves back from a New York vault to Texas. And he may have legislative support to do it. Freshman Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, R-Southlake, is carrying a bill that would establish the Texas Bullion Depository, a secure state-based bank to house $1 billion worth of gold bars owned by the University of Texas Investment Management Co., or UTIMCO, and stored by the Federal Reserve. "If you think gold is a hedge, or a protection, you always want it as close to the individual and the entity as possible," Paul told The Texas Tribune on Thursday. "Texas is better served if it knows exactly where the gold is rather than depending on the security of the Federal Reserve." Sadly, most Americans don't even realize that a private banking cartel has a monopoly over all money creation in this country. In recent years they have abused this power by wildly printing money ("quantitative easing"), and by making more than 16 trillion dollars in secret loans to their friends during the last financial crisis. "Neither the Treasury Department nor the Federal Reserve believes that the law can or should be used to facilitate the production of platinum coins for the purpose of avoiding an increase in the debt limit" remaining alternative to Congress raising the nation's borrowing limit, which would utilize a loophole in federal law to mint a $1 trillion coin to be deposited in the Federal Reserve and ensure the federal government could pay all bills and debt obligations. gold, money, cash fed, "federal reserve" ,bank ,banking ,bankers ,system, matrix ,monetary ,vault, "armored vehicle", police, cops, control, mafia, episode, tv, show, america ,u.s, "united states", american, nyc, "new york" ,"new york city" ,"gold bullion" ,"scrap gold", "buy gold", "sell gold" ,"silver coins" ,"silver bullion", "u.s. mint" ,inside, "first look" ,usd ,dollar ,crash, crisis, trust, etf, "paper gold" ,stocks, trading, investment, investing, future, world, global, supply, debt, 2013, forces, vault ,control, illuminati, new world order ,alex jones, infowars, gerald celente, david icke ,farrakhan ,lindsey williams, tvfirst123 You can thank the reckless money printing that the Federal Reserve has been doing for the incredible bull market that we have seen in recent months. When the Federal Reserve does more "quantitative easing", it is the financial markets that benefit the most. The Dow and the S&P 500 have both hit levels not seen since 2007 this month, and many analysts are projecting that 2013 will be a banner year for stocks. But is a rising stock market really a sign that the overall economy is rapidly improving as many are suggesting? Of course not. Just because the Federal Reserve has inflated another false stock market bubble Barack Obama has been president, 40 percent of all American workers are making $20,000 a year or less, median household income has declined for four years in a row, and poverty in the United States is absolutely exploding. So quantitative easing has definitely not made things better for the middle class. But all of the money printing that the Fed has been doing has worked out wonderfully for Wall Street. Profits are soaring at Goldman Sachs and luxury estates in the Hamptons are selling briskly. Unfortunately, this is how things work in America these days. Our "leaders" seem far more concerned with the welfare of Wall Street than they do about the welfare of the American people. When things get rocky, their first priority always seems to be to do whatever it takes to pump up the financial markets Category Entertainment License Standard YouTube License

Protecting Marijuana's $2.7 Billion Cash Industry When Banks Won't

04:48
Thanks to recreational legalization in Colorado and Washington, the U.S. marijuana industry exploded from $1.5 billion to $2.7 billion in one year. But now, businesses making hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars a week are facing a serious problem: There's nowhere to stash all the money. Most banks are still afraid to take money from marijuana-related businesses because of the severe penalties attached to money laundering charges. So while Congress and the Obama administration took steps to legalize banking for marijuana-related businesses last year by ostensibly shielding them from money laundering prosecution if they were to do business with dispensaries operating within state laws, many financial institutions have not forgotten the lessons of 2011, when an administration that said it wouldn't raid state-compliant medical marijuana dispensaries did just that. That's where companies like Blue Line Protection Group enter. Launched shortly after Colorado and Washington voted to legalize recreational marijuana, Blue Line provides what they call a "suite of services" to dispensary owners: help with navigating the maze of state, local, and federal regulations, protection and delivery of the weed, protection of the massive piles of cash, and delivery of said cash for payment to appropriate government agencies. That's right, they deliver piles of (federally) illegal drug money directly to the IRS and watch as the agents count it. "We go so far as to even return the receipts back to our customers," says Ricky Bennett, vice president of operations at Blue Line. Watch Reason TV's profile of Blue Line Protection group above for a glimpse inside an industry that's growing so quickly that the government and other entrenched interests can't keep up. Approximately 4 minutes. Produced by Zach Weissmueller. Music by Zero Page and BoxCat Games. Scroll down for downloadable versions of this video.

The director of the Bangladesh Central Bank got off the elevator on the ninth floor, and headed to the back office of the Accounts and Budgeting Department - this was the most restricted part of the building. He was there to deal with a problem; one that had been plaguing the office the last few days. You see… the printer wasn’t working; this was kind of a big deal. It was causing a real disruption. The automated printer (which was hooked up to the bank’s software) was supposed to work round the clock, 24/7, printing out the bank’s transaction reports in real-time; due to this technical glitch however, the printer tray remained empty. Much of the day was spent trying to fix the issue; and after a great deal of effort, there was success - they were able to restart the printer. And so the backlog of transaction reports started rolling out, one by one. Now, it soon became apparent that something wasn’t quite right. There were more statements than expected....
