Why is CHINA investing in the BALKANS? - VisualPolitik EN
Why is China so interested in the Balkans? Isn’t this a poor, corrupted and business unfriendly region? What is China trying to achieve here? Today, we are going to answer all of these questions! And don't forget to visit our friend’s podcast, Reconsider Media: http://www.reconsidermedia.com/ *ERRATUM min 7.30: In the chart were we compare wages in China and in the Balkans, we made a mistake. The average wage in Belgrade (Serbia) is 563 USD and the average wage in Athens (Greece) is 917 USD. *During the video, we refer to Fomer Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M.) as Macedonia. We do it for the sake of making the video more fluid and easier to understand. This is not a political statement. We are pretty aware that there is a big debate about the name of that country and we don't want to hurt any political sensibility. Cultural difference in business | Valerie Hoeks | TEDxHaarlem
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. One of the elements of the cultural difference between Europe and China is the importance that is given to relationships. In the West you would assume the importance to be the same, but there is a significant distinction. In China connections with the right people help you to get things done, to survive and to succeed. Whereas in the West content is predominant, in China the way people interact with each other strongly influences the working environment. 'Face' and long-term effects are taken into consideration. Valérie Hoeks (1982) studied Sinology at the Leiden University and has been active in China for over a decade as a traveller, a student and later as an entrepreneur. As soon as she set foot on Chinese soil she knew she would come back many times. In 2010 Valérie co-founded China Inroads in collaboration with with her Dutch and Chinese business partner. China Inroads provides a strong foothold for innovative companies that want to expand their business to the Chinese market. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Why is the CHINESE Economy ADDICTED to DEBT? - VisualPolitik EN
We can´t hide it, here at VisualPolitik we love Asia, and that’s partly because, we believe that the world’s centre is already on this continent. But in the last few decades, one country has stood out of the crowd, and that is China. China has faced two major threats in the last years: less growth and much, much, more debt. In fact, this has even lead to an important question: Can China go bankrupt? Well, that's what we'll be talking in today's video! 996 - The Controversial Work Culture in China's Tech Sector
As China's economy slows down, the country's technology industry has faced serious downturn, laying off developers and cutting salaries. However, Chinese tech employees are now protesting against their controversial work schedule known as 996, which stands for 9am to 9pm 6 days a week. The work culture has been in place for years, but without the ripe benefits of a soaring economy, the workers are no longer being complacent. We go over what this anti-996 online movement is all about in this short video. 996 ICU Github Repository: https://github.com/996icu/996.ICU Microsoft Supporting 996 ICU Github Repository: https://github.com/MSWorkers/support.996.ICU Please support us on patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=20331917 Join our discord: https://discord.gg/2xbR5qT Follow us on social media! China's value upgrade
Hong Kong's more dynamic industry clusters, particularly the electronics and telecoms sectors, can rely on the Chinese mainland's technology, efficiency and supply chain upgrades despite soaring labour costs, says Pansy Yau, HKTDC Deputy Director of Research. Companies that re-shored to low-cost countries now find they face the same cost spiral. Google BANS Huawei Devices After US Executive Order!
Google has reportedly suspended its licenses and product-sharing agreements with Chinese communications giant Huawei, as Washington accuses the company of spying for Beijing. The Silicon Valley tech giant has cut its business deals with Huawei that involve the transfer of hardware and software, Reuters and the Verge report. Following the move, Huawei will likely lose access to Android operating system updates, and its forthcoming smartphones will be shut out of some Google apps, including the Google Play Store and Gmail apps. The Chinese firm, however, will still have access to the open source version of the Android operating system. Washington repeatedly accused Huawei of installing so-called ‘backdoors’ into its products on behalf of the Chinese government. The heads of six US intelligence agencies warned American citizens against using Huawei products last year, and the Chinese company’s phones were banned from US military bases shortly afterwards. Huawei denies all accusations of spying. Nevertheless, the US Commerce Department added Huawei to its blacklist on Thursday, after President Donald Trump ruled that the Chinese firm could “undermine US national security or foreign policy interests,” particularly in developing America’s 5G network. The ban forbids Huawei from buying parts or technology from US suppliers. Coupled with the latest development from Google, the ban will likely see Huawei remain in place or tumble in the global smartphone market. The Chinese company overtook Apple at the beginning of the month to become the second biggest manufacturer worldwide, after South Korea’s Samsung. Xi'an Market Outlook
Xi'an business environment; established sector markets; business development areas; consumer and labour markets; local resources and special programs. If you're a Canadian SME and have questions about doing business in China, please send us your questions by email at [email protected] All services of the Trade Commissioner Service are free of charge to qualified Canadian clients. Hi, my name is Corrine, and I am the Canadian Trade Office manager in Xi’an. Xi’an is the capital of Shaanxi Province. It covers an area of over 10,000 square kilometers and has a population of 8.5 million people. In 2014, its GDP totaled 100 billion dollars Canadian. Considered as one of the four great ancient capitals of China, modern Xi’an is the most industrialized and developed city in northwest China and is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. In the last five years, Shaanxi Province’s transportation infrastructure has been upgraded to improve transportation flow and distribution logistics. These upgrades have led Shaanxi to become one of central China’s key transportation hubs. As a result of these improvements, Xi’an is now the largest hub on the new Europe-Asia land route. Xi’an’s service sector accounts for 54 per cent of GDP and is one of the largest in China. Xi’an has the most developed engineering center of north-west China, and its high-tech industry plays an important role in the local economy, accounting for almost 50 per cent of industrial output. This is split between ICT, automotive and aerospace. In September 2013, President Xi Jinping announced plans to reconstruct the Silk Road. Xi’an is in a strategic location at the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and is expected to become the center of economic growth in the new Silk Road economic belt. This is creating a number of new opportunities for Canadian companies in a number of sectors. One example is the transportation sector. A number of metro lines are currently under construction and the airport is expanding. The automotive industry is also one of the eight pillar industries of Shaanxi Province, and companies like BYD and Shaanxi Automobile Group Co., Ltd. are well established in the province. In 2014, vehicle production in the province exceeded 400,000 units and was valued at over 20 billion dollars Canadian. Strong demand for high-quality, innovative products is also creating opportunities for Canadian SMEs in the agriculture sector including technology, equipment and agri-food products. Oil & gas is another key industry in Shaanxi, with Yanchang, China’s 4th largest petroleum group , headquartered here. The region’s rapid development reinforces the needs for clean and sustainable development, providing many opportunities for Canadian SMEs offering cleantech solutions. More generally, there will be opportunities for Canadian companies in various sectors as XiXian New District develops. The Xixian New District is located between Xi'an and Xianyang and features preferential policies that encourage and attract new investment and development. This new area will also be one of 16 sponge cities across China, which will set up systems to allow rainwater to be stored and purified. This will present a number of opportunities for Canadian SMEs involved in rainwater harvesting as well as water and wastewater remediation. Companies doing business in Xi’an should be aware of the market challenges specific to the region. Xi’an is an inland city and is not as open as China’s coastal cities. There are also far fewer foreign companies here. When doing business in this region, you need to establish strong relationships before jumping into business negotiations...

In this video we have discussed the Huawei ban in United States of America after an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump. The biggest aftermath of the ban is that no American company is allowed to to do any business with Huawei and Google revoked Android license for Huawei smartphones. Interface's Sustainability Mission in China - Patrick Riley | Interface
In this episode, we speak with Patrick Riley, the former General Manager of Interface China, to discuss the influence of Ray Anderson, the culture of sustainability in China, and leadership. We hope that you will enjoy this episode, and if you do, please remember to like, comment, and share! To learn how to foster similar leaders in your own company, check out our Building a Sustainability Ambassador Network Report. http://www.coresponsibility.com/report/sustainability-ambassador/ About Patrick Until the spring of 2017, Patrick Riley is Senior Vice President, responsible for the Greater China Region including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mongolia for Interface Asia Pacific, a division of US based Interface Inc., the global market leader in modular floor coverings, and acknowledged visionaries in the application of sustainable business and manufacturing processes. Patrick assumed this role and relocated with his wife to Shanghai in July of 2008, with the goal of planning and executing the development of a new manufacturing base for the company, in China. This major capital investment project is intended as the catalyst for InterfaceFLOR to become the dominant modular carpet brand in North Asia, utilising the very latest design technology and environmental leadership of Interface. Beginning his career in sales at the age of 18, with periods in the tobacco and oil industries, Patrick joined the Heuga Company, four years prior to its acquisition by Interface in 1988. In 1989 he was promoted to UK Sales Director. In 1992, Patrick moved on to another US-based carpet manufacturer, creating a European sales, marketing and distribution operation from a standing start. In 2001, Patrick returned to Interface, as Managing Director of their UK broadloom carpet operation, Firth Carpets. Following a corporate decision to exit that sector, he was promoted to the European Executive Group of the company, and spent periods leading the UK sales organisation and New Business Development, followed by 3 years as head of the European Residential business unit. After a modest academic start in life, his own desire to continue learning led him to complete a degree in Marketing early in his career, whilst working. Having benefited from such opportunities himself, Patrick is now actively committed to the training and development of others. A passionate advocate of the Interface vision and a member of both the Institute of Directors and Chartered Institute of Marketing, Patrick is an active sportsman and regularly enjoys scuba diving, golf and rugby, albeit that game as a spectator now. Aged 58, he is married with three grown up children and three grandchildren. Two-Way Street – 25 Years of US-China Direct Investment | Beijing Launch Event (2016)
On November 14, 2016, a new report unveiled the full picture of two-way direct investment flows between the United States and China, past and present. Two-Way Street – 25 Years of U.S.-China Direct Investment is the next step in the collaboration between the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and Rhodium Group. On November 18, 2016, in Beijing, NCUSCR President Stephen Orlins lead a discussion with the report's authors. Two-Way Street makes use of a new transactions-based proprietary database to create a fully comparable picture of American foreign direct investment (FDI) in China and Chinese FDI in the United States from 1990 to 2015. The authors find the depth of FDI integration to be greater than commonly thought, and annual patterns to be evolving rapidly. FDI is now a two-way street, driven by a complex mix of players and motives, with a diverse industry and geographic composition. The report will enable policy and business leaders on both sides of the Pacific to better manage this growing element of the bilateral economic relationship. The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and Rhodium Group thank our Beijing roll-out co-hosts Caixin China Reform and Yale Center Beijing for supporting this event. In addition, we would like to thank funding partners The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and China General Chamber of Commerce – U.S.A. as well as supporters The Starr Foundation and East West Bank for underwriting Two-Way Street. David Goldman: Will China overtake the U.S. as the world's leading superpower?
Transcript: https://bit.ly/2OghJ53 David Goldman: Will China overtake the U.S. as the world's leading superpower? David Goldman is an American economist, music critic, and author, best known for his series of online essays in the Asia Times under the pseudonym Spengler. He is the Wax Family Fellow at the Middle East Forum, a Senior Fellow at the London Center for Policy Research, and a member of the Board of Advisors of Sino-Israel Government Network and Academic Leadership (SIGNAL). Former C.I.A. National Intelligence Council Vice Chairman Herbert E. Meyer said, "Ask anyone in the intelligence business to name the world's most brilliant intelligence service, and we'll all give the same answer: Spengler. David P. Goldman's 'Spengler' columns provide more insight than the CIA, MI6, and the Mossad combined." Goldman concealed his identity under the "Spengler" pseudonym until 2009, when he revealed his identity in the Asia Times article, "And Spengler is..." and the First Things article "Confessions of a Coward". Goldman regularly appears as a guest on CNBC's Larry Kudlow Program, where he has been an outspoken critic of Federal Reserve efforts to resuscitate the American economy. New Agenda for Global Governance with Scott Kennedy and He Fan
The United States-China relationship is at a critical juncture as both countries undergo great changes. At a National Committee on U.S.-China relations program, Scott Kennedy and He Fan discussed the tensions and challenges in the relationship and offer policy recommendations from their new report, part of the Initiative on China and Global Governance project. Professors Kennedy and He argue that bilateral engagement can only begin to address trade, investment, finance, and climate change issues; for better results emphasis should be placed on regional and multilateral approaches. Scott Kennedy is director of the Research Center for Chinese Politics & Business, associate professor of political science and East Asian languages & cultures, and adjunct professor of business economics and public policy at Indiana University. His research focuses on interest groups in China, and includes work on policymaking, industrial policy, global governance, and philanthropy. He is editor of Beyond the Middle Kingdom: Comparative Perspectives on China's Capitalist Transformation (Stanford University Press, 2011); and author of The Business of Lobbying in China (Harvard University Press, 2005). He has published articles in The China Quarterly, The China Journal, Political Science Quarterly, Business and Society, Wall Street Journal, and other academic and popular outlets. Kennedy was a fellow in the second round of the National Committee's Public Intellectuals Program. He Fan is deputy director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. A specialist on China's macro-economy, international finance, and international political economy, Dr. He is the author or editor of 10 books and more than 100 papers in economics journals. He Fan is also an advisor to many Chinese government agencies and a regular commentator in Chinese and Western media. Dr. He received his Ph.D. from CASS and has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University. He is a member of the 2007 cohort of the National Committee's Young Leaders Forum.
