FREE ►► http://ow.ly/884y30dIUfq ★★★ Australian Federal and State legislation states unlawful discrimination occurs when a group of people, individuals are treated less favourably than any other person or group of people because of their ethnicity, race, colour, sex, marital status, age or disability, religion and sexual reference, whether your a member of a trade union and any other characteristic specified under anti-discrimination or human rights legislation. Workplace discrimination and harassment can occur in: · Employment and selection of staff. · Training and type of training being offered. · Being considered for a transfer, promotion or sacking. · Work place conditions. What is defined as unlawful harassment? Under Australian state and federal legislation unlawful harassment can occur when a person humiliated because of their race, or intimidated and insulted because of there colour, ethnicity, or any other specified characteristic under anti-discrimination or human rights legislation. Workplace harassment can include behaviour such as: · Mailing or submitting sexually explicit or suggestive letters, notes or emails. · The making of derogatory taunts or comments about a persons religion or race. telling insulting The making of jokes about particular racial groups. · Nude or pornographic posters displayed. · The asking of questions about a persons sex life or personal life. The nature of harassment and or discrimination. No matter the seriousness of an incident, whether it be a one-off or prolonged and long termed, it will still be judged as harassment or discrimination. If left unchecked the continued harassment will erode the drive and ability of the individual or group to eventually effect the overall performance of their work performance. However the absence of any formal or verbal complaints is not necessarily any indication that harassment or discrimination is not occurring. In a lot of cases the person or group being harassed or discriminated against will not complain or report the incident in the belief that they will be deemed as wingers or the incident is too trivial. In most cases the victim of the workplace harassment or discrimination is lacking confidence in their own ability and has fear of retribution or even worse, being dismissed. Hostile working environment As an employer you will also need to be aware of your responsibilities in making the work environment a safe place from a culture of sexual or racial harassment. Both are deemed as HOSTILE. An example of a potential hostile working environment would include the display of nude or pornographic material, swearing and crude conversations, racially or sex specific jokes. What can not be classed as harassment or discrimination. However it must be remembered that comments and advice given by supervisors, work colleagues and managers on the work performance or work related behaviour of an individual or group should not be confused with workplace harassment or discrimination. Feedback during normal performance appraisals and work performance meetings will always be deemed as stressful and will in some cases effect the well being of the person or group being appraised. However, managers and supervisors should always keep these concerns in mind and perform any necessary appraisal with sensitivity without avoiding the need to provide full and frank feedback to their staff. What is workplace bullying? Sourced the from ACTUQ/QCCI/Qld Govt Dept of Workplace Health and Safety , they claim that workplace bullying is "the repeated less favourable treatment of a person by another or others in the workplace, which may be considered unreasonable and inappropriate workplace practice. It includes behaviour that intimidates, offends, degrades or humiliates a worker". Bullies will use their status or power of position in a company or business to target both men and women with their bullying practices. Bullying behaviour can range from obvious verbal or physical assault to very subtle psychological abuse. This behaviour would include: · Psychological harassment. (mind games) · Excluding or isolating targeted employees. · Assigning impossible tasks or jobs to targeted employees. · Physical or verbal abuse. · Inconvenience selected employees by deliberately changed work rosters and shifts. · Yell and scream offensive language. · Intimidation · Undermine work performance deliberately by withholding vital job information. Females in Pakistan face gender inequalities throughout their lives. Workplace gender inequality is one of the biggest problem areas. Not only is females' labour force participation low in Pakistan but also their average national wage is quite less as compared to males. Working females have dual responsibilities - at home and at work. They must be respected for their efforts and paid accordingly. The Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Articles 3, 25, 27, 37, and 38 entitles everyone to be treated without discrimination and forbids exploitation of any sort. Work is, perhaps, the only direct pathway to fight poverty and improve the quality of lives of women in Pakistan. Without paying women at par with men, their future will continue to remain grim.

(July 1, 2010) - The Sikh Coalition testified yesterday in support of a proposed law that would significantly enhance religion-based protections for New York City employees. The proposed law, introduced by Council Member Mark Weprin (D-Queens), would significantly increase the obligations of city employers to respect the right of Sikhs to maintain their articles of faith in the workplace without discrimination. "It's critical that our local laws recognize our city's religious diversity and work to protect it," said Amardeep Singh, Program Director and Co-Founder of the Sikh Coalition. "Today's proposed law, if enacted, would be an important step in eliminating the false choice between one's employment and one's faith. Subsequently, and after repeated escalations to management, she would initiate one of the largest investigations in University history and prove a hostile work environment based on gender. This is her story coming forward and breaking the silence on a systemic culture of abuse and retaliation. She will reference the completed University investigation and present why it was imperative to shed light on the University's behavior to discredit the voices of women who were harassed in IT at the University of California, Berkeley. The presentation will review the numerous supporting documents supplied to initiate the investigation. The necessary role of allies in creating an irrefutable case. The retaliation that she experienced while the investigation was underway. The role of IT’s HR to, per the investigation, knowingly falsify information to justify the departure of woman after woman on the team. The presentation will address the stigmas around credibility when one does come forward and the prevailing fear that prevents others from supporting or coming forward. Furthermore, the presentation will describe the events immediately post­ investigation: Vanessa was terminated. She sent numerous detailed email documents to the CIO of the University of California, Berkeley detailing retaliation and witness intimidation, the CIO refused in email to meet with Vanessa. The presentation will discuss University and Nondiscrimination in Employment policy violations and examine why zero tolerance is not effectively observed or enforced among staff in IT at the University of California, Berkeley. As a woman of color, in an industry severely underrepresented by women of color, Vanessa will describe the promotion patterns for leadership in IT at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, time will be spent describing the various paths that could have been followed, including a settlement, and what each of those would have looked like in Vanessa’s opinion. Finally, ample time will be allocated to an explanation, in her own words, on why Vanessa would not stand down to the systemic harassment and discrimination that she and multiple women experienced. The presentation will discuss the long term advantages to shedding light on discriminatory work environments and how to be prepared to do so to protect future women. Quit Labelling' is a campaign to improve the law on discrimination. It will challenge employment discrimination in court in the hope that a clear legal position will emerge that guides employers in their employment practices. Background Last year, Lawrence Wee brought a suit against his former employer. He was harassed into leaving his job because of his sexual orientation. Concerned that the law is ambiguous, Lawrence is now asking the High Court to judge whether Article 12 of our Constitution, which guarantees all persons equal protection of the law should also apply to people on the basis of their sexuality. Article 12(2) states that "...there shall be no discrimination against citizens of Singapore on the ground only of religion, race, descent or place of birth in any law..." Lawrence, who worked for six years before he was sacked, believes that people should be allowed to prove their worth at work, without fear that an immutable characteristic does not become a millstone around their neck.
