Optical Glass Sculptures by fine art glass artist Jack Storms - The Glass Sculptor

08:50
This video will tell you all about the cold glass process I use to make my work. I hope you enjoy it and please share if you do! Website: http://www.jackstorms.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stormsart Twitter: https://twitter.com/jackhstorms Instagram: http://instagram.com/stormsjack Both a tremendous athlete and a motivated student growing up in New Hampshire, it wasn’t until later in life that Jack discovered his passions in contemporary art and graduated at age 30 from Plymouth State University with a BA in Art focusing primarily on studio production. It was during his junior year there that he happened upon what would eventually become an entryway to his legacy, the studio of a glass artist that was close to his school where he was producing a phenomenally rare style of glass art work combining lead crystal and dichroic glass using a cold-glass process. The process itself which required several weeks to produce even one completed glass sculpture was incredibly intense and physically challenging, and the number of glass artisans working in this form of fine art could be counted on one hand. Working side by side with the artisan for over a year, Jack learned every component and facet of this incredibly challenging and rare art form and eventually was a strong enough sculptor to branch out on his own in 2004 and open Storm Works Studios. Both challenged and inspired by having been told that his vision was impossible, one of Jack’s first major accomplishments as an independent glass artist was to invent and design a cold-working lathe that offers him the ability to turn glass and sculpt shapes with curves and details like one would produce from a wooden medium. Early memories of studying his father’s craftsmanship as he worked for hours in his own studio with a wooden lathe provided him with the blueprint of his vision, and his intense drive and deeply embedded passion as a glass artist combined with the inspiration that came from the idea of pioneering new trails in the world of fine art motivated him toward this remarkable accomplishment. The intense cold-glass process which can take up to 24 weeks for each contemporary glass sculpture to come to life begins at the heart of the design, by creating a core of lead crystal which is cut, polished and laminated creating reflective mirrors. When wrapped in optical glass, the refraction of light as it passes through the glass creates rainbows of hypnotic color. The drawn out process of repetitive cutting, grinding and polishing requires intense passion, rigid self discipline, and more blood sweat and tears than any artisan could wrap their mind around. The results, are mind boggling works of contemporary glass art. Drawing inspiration from both his heart and his mind when conceiving his artistic designs, at the heart of each lead crystal sculpture by Jack Storms lays the theory of Fibonacci, a great mathematician that articulated the natural math seen in nature. Natural beauty is created, not manufactured. From the repetition florets of a flower to the scales of a pineapple’s skin, Fibonacci numbers are found in the pattern of growth of every living thing in nature. In spite of the intense natural talent born to Jack’s very talented hands, it was only a couple of years after the opening of Storm Works Studios that Jack found himself desperately seeking some amazing source of inspiration to keep him producing his incredibly beautiful and artistically brilliant glass sculptures. It was in true fairytale love story form that the serendipitous hand of fate brought him a beautiful princess that would rescue him from himself. True love brought Jack to his wife Vivian, and Vivian brought Jack through his stormy weather helping him find his inspiration again, and jumping in feet first to completely support Jack’s dreams and everything that meant to StormWorks Studio’s allowing Jack’s glass studio to flourish. A match made in heaven, Jack and Vivian married and brought their son Owen into the world. Jack’s complex heart and deeply rooted emotions make him an exemplary caretaker for his family, who are the driving force behind his creative inspiration. Only one muse inspired glass sculpture in Jack’s collection, the Viviovo sculpture beams with radiant light and colors from within having been modeled after the intense beauty and fire burning within his wife Vivian.

THE AMAZING ART OF PAINTING RESTORATION

12:02
Have you ever seen how paintings are restored and conserved? Watch this amazing and interesting compilation showing the work process of Julian Baumgartner. Baumgartner Fine Art Restoration is currently the oldest conservation studio in Chicago. It was founded in 1978 by R. Agass Baumgartner. Agass' son, Julian, started learning the art of restoration in 2000 when he was studying painting and printmaking at Purchase College, SUNY. Julian took over responsibility for running business, and in mid-2011 took full ownership and oversight of the restoration company. He decided to keep things small and to make sure that the artworks would only ever be handled by a couple of people. Following his father's example, Julian feels that the best results can be achieved by fostering a personal relationship with every client and artwork. Baumgartner Fine Art Restoration has worked with major corporations and governmental organizations, but Julian is especially proud of its strong relationships with small museums, universities, art galleries, art dealers, collectors and private clients. The first step in the process is to view the artworks, preferably in the studio, with the clients present. If that doesn’t prove possible, photos can be emailed or uploaded. After that a full examination of the artworks is performed. This includes assessing the condition of the artworks and testing the materials that will guide the conservation process. Establishing a comprehensive understanding of each artwork is necessary as no two are the same, and all techniques and materials are tailored to the artwork. After his conservation plan is approved by the client, he begins cleaning. He typically starts by cleaning off old varnish. Sometimes, he patches any holes or tears in the canvas. The most important part, and his favorite, is retouching. Some artworks may be completed in as little as one week, while others require several weeks due to the complex nature of the conservation issues at play. Specific time lines and completion dates can be accommodated if required. 8 AMAZING DRAWING TRICKS THAT WILL MAKE YOU A PRO

12:24
DRAWING IS EASY Do you love drawing? Have you ever thought that drawing is only for talented people or artists? No, it’s not true! Of course, you may start learning fundamental painting techniques to become an artist, but who has so much time for it? We are here to help you to realize your dream. You may start drawing right now! Our video is full of easy tips for beginners that will help you spend time with fun. Our drawing techniques will impress you for sure! I'm going to demonstrate the simplest and most creative way to draw roses, fishes, people, a dress. The supplies you will need dishwashing soap, water, paint, and straw. Mix all the ingredients in a glass and blow bubbles. Then cover paper with bubbles to make a cute card. Have fun! By the way, did you know that painting is one of the easiest and most satisfying ways to reduce the level of stress and anxiety? The main reason to choose drawing as anti-stress technique is that it could calm you down in different ways. Have you ever caught yourself making random doodles in the margins of a page? Most of us do it to take a break from hard work. We draw without worrying about talent or the quality of the final product, just to relax. That is the main goal of art therapy. Art therapy is also a way to encourage creativity and reduce stress. Zentangle as a type of art therapy consists of a series of repetitive strokes — straight lines, curves, and dots drawn on a small square of paper. You do not have to be an artist to enjoy the benefits of Zentangle art, just feel the benefits of the therapeutic, meditative ritual of the creative process. Moreover, try Zentangle art to create beautiful birthday cards for your friends and family. Some kinds of ornament drawing will bring you back to your school days but we have a few surprises for you! As a bonus, you will find the simplest and most creative way to draw eyes, dress, and people! Start creating your own masterpiece now! Gretchen Dietrich - Utah Museum of Fine Arts

01:17
Gretchen Dietrich, Executive Director, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, University of Utah http://www.utahbusiness.com/articles/view/30_women_to_watch_7/?pg=3 Gretchen Dietrich realizes that making the decisions that shape the Utah Museum of Fine Arts (UMFA) as an institution is a major responsibility—but she has fun while doing it. “I love communicating with people about the importance of the [UMFA] on our campus and in our community,” she says. “I love getting other people excited about and focused on our success. What we do is so important—creating safe spaces for difficult conversations and stretching people’s tastes and attitudes.” Dietrich can be credited for leading the UMFA and its staff through a challenging time of transition, during which the museum staff, operations and programs were restructured to increase efficiency and establish a more sustainable financial model. “We have also worked in recent years to increasingly serve the students, faculty and staff of the University of Utah,” she says. “It’s gratifying to know that today one in three of our visitors is coming from campus.” In addition, in 2013, she led a rigorous museum- and community-wide strategic planning process that has positioned UMFA for even greater success and future growth. Dietrich is an elected member of the Association of Art Museum Directors and serves on the state of Utah’s Governor-appointed board of the State Office of Museum Services. She is also a member of the McGillis School board of directors. “When you fail or don’t do as well as you know you could have, get right back up and keep going and do better. Don’t be a shrinking violet—take your place at the table.” See more at: http://www.utahbusiness.com/articles/view/30_women_to_watch_7/?pg=3#sthash.xghoK0Nb.dpuf

14 ODDLY SATISFYING IDEAS

21:46
SATISFYING HACKS AND CRAFTS Our collection today is meant for those who want to relax and calm down. Hypnotizing sand patterns, merging paints, and funny slime - choose whatever you like and let's craft together! Get many paints of different colors and let's create a cool painting for your room. Or two of them:) You'll need a couple of simple instruments - spatula, mop, brushes. The first idea is very easy - put many thick drops of paint on a large canvas and then use a spatula to spread them evenly on the canvas. The coolest thing is that you can never get two identical patterns. Another idea is for the fans of impressionism. You can create a mesmerizing pond pattern using a mop and several hues of green and blue. Draw lilies and leaves on the pattern and enjoy your piece of fine arts. Even a hairdryer can be your brush and help you to create a masterpiece! A lot of cool ideas can be made with paraffin or candles, or even wax crayons. You can create your own DIY makeup using crayons. Another amazing idea is making a candle in the shape of a hand. For this craft, you need to use a rubber glove – check out how we made it and try to repeat it step by step. Watch this video up to the end and see how to draw with sand (you can use semolina instead of sand). 18 TOTALLY AMAZING DRAWING TRICKS

16:38
DRAWING TRICKS FOR YOUR INNER VAN GOGH If you haven't got great painting ideas, then all the technical painting skills in the world will be near useless. But it's also okay to allow some room for experimentation. Be gentle on yourself and allow yourself to make mistakes, to go down dead-ends, to see what might develop. Use each of these painting ideas as a starting point, not the endpoint. Here is the number of must know painting hacks for beginners! Fire painting, colorful candies, puffy shaving foam ideas, to cut it short, you'll gonna find tons of great ideas for drawing for beginners and amateurs! You just have to check out these absolutely brilliant drawing tips for beginners! You're gonna learn how to draw one line animals, use shaving foam and pencil shavings for painting! Stay tuned and don't miss out on anything! Beginners often shy away from color and color mixing (especially when it’s labeled "color theory"), but the basics of color mixing aren’t particularly complicated. Color and pigment provide so many different painting possibilities and nuances that an artist could spend a lifetime exploring color, color theory, and color mixing. Indeed, color mixing is something that often overwhelms beginners because it can be complicated, but color mixing can also be pared down to some fundamental tips. So, embrace the challenge, learn, and soon you'll be mixing just the right tints, tones, and shades. And, if you don’t want to waste the paint by throwing it away, use it with some white to do a monochrome painting or value exercise. Value is another term for tone, which refers to how light or dark the colors are. A value exercise, then, involves working to create lighter or darker tones in your painting.
