In their most general form these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art. The three classical branches of art are painting, sculpture and architecture. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts. Though the definition of what constitutes art is disputed and has changed over time, general descriptions mention an idea of imaginative or technical skill stemming from human agency and creation. The nature of art and related concepts, such as creativity and interpretation, are explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics.

Nikolaos studied art at his parents' private art school, "ART PALACE", in Rhodes for more than 6 years. He now works as a part-time art teacher there. Also, he's currently studying pedagogy in the Department of Anthropology at the University of the Aegean, Rhodes. He started experimenting with watercolors around a year ago after he was inspired by his favorite artists on YouTube. Before that, Nikolaos had tried quite a few other art mediums, such as graphite, charcoal, acrylics, color pencils, markers etc, and he has concluded that he likes all of them. Nikolaos is always experimenting with his artistic style. Some pieces can take him up to a month to make. Nikolaos prefers to work slowly and this is why he almost always works on multiple pieces at the same time. He says that he can draw inspiration from pretty much anywhere. From the view outside his window to an image he sees while dreaming at night. He's usually looking for patterns in nature, balanced color pallettes in art books, and so on. Anything can be a source of inspiration. https://www.instagram.com/nikolas_tower 2. Kareen Kalush aka Lorisity is an artist currently based in Israel, but he's spreading his love and art globally. Kareen is a full-time professional artist & illustrator. Kareen graduated with a degree in visual communication from the Musrara Art School in Jerusalem 2017. He creates his art mostly on paper, canvas and wood. He works a great deal with pens, pencils, watercolors and acrylic, and always finds it interesting to mix all the different mediums. Each piece takes him between few hours and a few days (sometimes even more) to complete, because of the small details that he creates with a small pen - and a big passion. Kareen's artworks and illustrations are surreal, and take a lot of inspiration from fantasy, nature, animals and women. He focuses a lot on the relationships between humans and animals. Many of his works have a strong story behind them. They are stories about life and reality, and stories that are based on the personal experiences that guide him as an artist. Kareen is always trying to adding 'cosmic' feelings to his work, so his pieces often walk the line between reality and imagination, optimism and pessimism, right and wrong. Kareen Kalush https://www.instagram.com/lorisity 3. Anna Hermsdorf is 31-year-old artist from Aachen, Germany. She started doing linocut in July 2018. Anna started with one-dimensional linocut pieces with black ink, but she couldn't express herself with only one color, so she started doing multicolor prints. She discovered her love for female portraits and pastel and pinkish colors in October 2018, and has already created 20 female figures since then. So "creating girls with whimsical minds" has kind of become her slogan. Anna studied product design in her home town of Aachen, where she did a lino course a few years ago. But she's mostly self-taught, since she has evolved her very own technique for doing linocut. The artist can do one of these prints in just a few days. Research and illustration takes her a day. Her design always consist of three layers that she prints on top of each other. The oil-based ink needs to dry for one day, so all three layers take her a minimum of three days. But she doesn't rush these prints anymore; she takes at least a week to print an individual girl. Anna is inspired by Japanse pop culture, traditional tattoo art, and a number of digital illustrators. And she loves flat design! Linocut is the "hobby-side" of her job. She normally does digital drawings, and sometimes shes love to give this work a physical expression. That's when she turns her illustrations into lino prints. https://www.instagram.com/annahermsdorf/ Don't forget to leave a like and subscribe to Now I've Seen Everything for more linocut videos! 19 BEST BRAIN TEASERS AND RIDDLES

15:42
EXERCISES FOR YOUR BRAIN Exercising your body is very important for health but do not forget to train your brain and keep it from becoming lazy. A healthy and sharp life is an essential part of happy life. Moreover, physical and brain exercises improve cognitive functioning and reduce the risk of developing dementia. This video is full of exercises how to train and improve brain functions. The exercises we share are very simple and suitable for people of all ages. First exercise is mirror writing, it’s a production of letters, words or sentences in reverse direction. Try these exercises for self-development but you will need to train a bit before achieving a perfect result. Have you ever tried to read upside down? It may be really challenging to read and to keep in mind what you have just read. Like any exercise, start small and work day by day. Try to use both hands to draw and write. If your dominant hand is right hand, try to use your non-dominant hand in everyday life. For example, brush your teeth, clean your house or type using the left hand. This exercise will help to stimulate the parts of your brain that control your muscles. The next group of exercises kids and adults will love. Finger fitness is a cool way to entertain yourself and has a lot of benefits for your health. Here are the most important benefits: fosters fine motor control; improve hand-eye co-ordination; improves sequential memory; promotes self-regulation; promotes focused attention and deliberate memory. Terry Smith. Difference and Concurrence. 2018

01:02:10
http://www.egs.edu Terry Smith, Professor of Philosophy at The European Graduate School / EGS. Saas-Fee, Switzerland. August 14th, 2018. Public open lecture for the students of the Division of Philosophy, Art & Critical Thought. Terry Smith is an Australian art historian, critic, and theoretician. He is Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Contemporary Art and Theory in the Department of the History of Art and Architecture, University of Pittsburgh. His main research interests are contemporary art and its position in wider institutional and social contexts together with the examination of the notion of “contemporaneity” that enables him to provide an answer to the question: “what comes after modernism and postmodernism?” Smith completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Melbourne (1967) and earned his MA at the University of Sydney (1976). The title of his MA thesis was American Abstract Expressionism: Ethical Attitudes and Moral Function. He obtained his doctoral degree in 1986, and his dissertation (full title: Making the Modern: Industry, Art and Design in America) was published in 1993 by the University of Chicago Press. In 2009, this book won the Georgia O’Keeff Museum Prize for the best book on Modern American Art published in the past 25 years. In 1976, Smith was appointed a lecturer at Power Institute of Fine Arts, University of Sydney and remained there until 2001. Presently, he serves as a board member of both the Andy Warhol Museum and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. In the 1960s and 1970s, Australia was on the margin of the art world and major international movements and Smith wanted both to introduce them and to make them relevant for the Australian audience. In 1970, he founded (together with Paul McGillick) a new journal of art criticism entitled Other Voices. The aim was “to offer an alternative platform for serious writing about the newest art.” The leading article in the first issue of this journal was Terry Smith’s “Color-Form Painting: Sydney 1965–1970.” Smith did not want to write only scholarly articles, and he also wrote art criticism for The Nation Review and for The Australian, which was, at the time, owned by Rupert Murdoch. He was sacked by the owner of the newspaper after he published a supportive review of an artist who criticized Australian involvement in the Vietnam war and a series of increasingly political art columns. Smith drew the attention of the art world to himself when he published an essay “The Provincial Problem” (1974) in the international magazine Artforum. In this essay, he compares Jackson Pollock and an Australian artist Sydney Nolan, who is practically unknown outside Australia. He argues that art can be understood as “the question of consequence, a battle for appropriate acknowledgment, which a provincial artist will always lose unless you revise the history and entire narrative.” During his career, Smith has written extensively about Australian art. His most important contributions in this area include chapters on the modern and the postmodern in Australian Painting 1788-2000 (2001) and Transformations in Australian Art, vol. 1, The Nineteenth Century: Landscape, Colony and Nation; vol. 2. The Twentieth Century: Modernism and Aboriginality (2002). Another preoccupation in the work of Terry Smith is the notion of “contemporaneity” together with the status of art in our society. In What Is Contemporary Art? (2009), Smith argues that three forms of contemporary art currently exist: 1. art reflecting the after-effects of modernism, which can be classified either as a return to mainstream modernism (Richard Serra and Gerhard Richter) or as something that Smith describes as retro-sensationalism (Damien Hirst and Takashi Murakami); 2. the art of the transnational turn: since Euro-centric or EuroAmerican-centric are no longer dominant, various influences from around the world create a movement within contemporary art that is characterized by its lack of homogeneity; 3. the art of a younger generation that investigates mediation and the possibility of ethics “through small scale and participatory art making.” Other important works of Terry Smith that explore features, significance, and the position of art in the contemporary world are Contemporary Art: World Currents (2011), a wide-ranging textbook, and two books on curating. In Thinking Contemporary Curating (2012), Smith attempts to explore what is distinctive about curatorial thought. Talking Contemporary Curating (2015), takes this further, through conversations with leading international curators, art historians, and theorists, including Zdenka Badovinac, Claire Bishop, Zoe Butt, Germano Celant, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Okwui Enwezor, Boris Groys, Jens Hoffmann, Mami Kataoka, Maria Lind, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Mari Carmen Ramírez.

How can crayons change your life? Well, that's easy! Today Slime Sam and his pet human Sue will show you how to draw, how to paint, how to design clothes, how to make candles, how to make Lego action figures, how to turn old to new and how to brighten up your night, and all of that is possible with the help of colorful and powerful crayons! By the way, check out this craft at 2:02 if you enjoy painting ASMR videos, you won't regret it! Today's episode consists of different hacks, ideas, and crafts with good old crayons. Now, if you have other ideas about how to use crayons please let us know. We'll make a video about it! 1. FABULOUS CRAYON PENDANT Make this unique piece of jewelry if you like to stand out from the crowd. Think of your own pattern and design a one-of-a-kind necklace that everybody will envy! 1) Grate crayons using a grater. We use blue, purple, white and sky blue crayons with glitter but you can pick different colors and create your own color combination! 2) Fill the pendant base with the crayon shavings, make sure it doesn't overflow. 3) Use a high-temperature industrial blowdryer to heat and melt crayon shavings. If your pendant base is microwavable you can use a microwave oven. 4) Leave the pendant to cool down. 5) Put some hot glue on it and attach a transparent piece of glass as a finishing touch. 2. DRAWING WITH MELTED CRAYONS ON HOT STONES 1) Preheat clean stones in the oven. 2) Draw! Wax crayons don't take the heat that well and they'll melt as soon as you touch the stone. Mix the colors, experiment and make a cool piece of room decor for yourself or a friend! It can be used as a magnet, a paperweight or something else. 3. Printmaking using Plaster of Paris -- No press or paper required!

05:55
Leave a comment or question down below, I'd love to hear what you think! Don't forget to subscribe to keep up with new projects. This video demos how I make a plaster print using a copper plate mezzotint, ink, and plaster. I've come across this method over the years in various articles and word of mouth, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try! This works with linocuts, etchings, aquatint, or even woodcuts (if you seal the wood first), and requires no press, Barens, or even paper! I'd test it out on an old plate before trying it on something you care about, in case it does not work out how you'd expect or damages the printing matrix. Materials I used in this project: Printing matrix (mezzotint plate in this case) Plaster of Paris Plexiglass sheet (as base of mold) -- any smooth plastic should work... Wire meshing Plastic drop cloth Bucket to mix plaster Dust mask Gloves ½" tall wood strips glue gun nails/hammer picture hanging wire printing ink I used a mezzotint plate for the image, if you'd like to see a video about that, I have one here...Mezzotint basics video: http://youtu.be/rpbt6tjjjZE For last weeks video: "Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" - http://youtu.be/NEyLCoxCH4I ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ▼SUBSCRIBE! https://www.youtube.com/user/diodepre... ▼Want to support Diode Press?
